Damn. Wonder if Sportsmans Warehouse will price match. No Turners here in NorCal.

don't need one, but at that price I would totally by one if I didn't have to pay an extra $35 for dros

I don't need one, have a 10/22 TD already, but at that price it is very tempting. Will be at Turners this weekend to pick up a lower so I'll have to check it out.

I'm guessing it would be a good Appleseed gun?

I was thinking almost the exact same thing, except I'm not getting a lower.
At this price it is very tempting.

Well if they will let you put it on the same DROS then it would be an even better deal.
Yes they are excellent Appleseed guns that is why Marlin is partnering with Appleseed to make a LTR edition 795.
Which you could easily clone yourself.

What an informative post!
10/22 are a 100 bucks more than this price.
The Marlin is more accurate than the 10/22 out of the box.
With the 100 you save you could put an aftermarket Boyds stock or a DIP trigger on the Marlin for less then the purchase price of the 10/22.

If anyone does not know about the Marlin 795 they should check out the

DROS is $25.00, not $35.00. Tax will add about $10.00. You would be OTD for $155, which is stupidly cheap for such a great little rifle.

I already have one or I would be all over this. I love my 795 - it gets more rounds through it than anything else I own.

My question is whether or not is worth it. I have been hearing bad things about Marlins made in the last year or so.

Very tempting. Almost as cheap as when I bought mine a couple years back with the rebate. They were $109 after rebate. Hopefully they don't follow the Remlin pattern.

will do. I went ahead and texted my buddy that works there and he said he already updated it in the system, but I'm definitely going to bring it up when I pay off the remaining balance at the register.

I've heard nothing but good things about them. I was already buying 2 rifles and when I saw how cheap the Marlin was, I couldn't say no.

I probably shouldn't have, but these will probably be my last purchases for awhile, definitely last purchase for the year..... I think

The owner of the local gun store, who is also one of the best gunsmiths I know. He said that there have been some real issues with quality since they were taken over. Google "Marlin Quality Control, 2013" and see for yourself. I will stick with used ones for now. Or NOS if you can find it.

Probably too late to do it on the same DROS. I bought the lower last week and the 10 days are up on Saturday.

With SB-374 looming overhead I'm hesitant to spend money on anything I can still for sure get after January 1st. $100 is stripped lower in the bank. To say nothing about the other "assault rifles" I'm thinking about. And the Ruger American Rimfire. And maybe a 1911....

Quality concerns worry me. How is Marlin's customer service? I know if I get a lemon Ruger I'm pretty well covered. They will take care of me.

To those concerned about Remingtons leadership of Marlin and so called Remlins.
I have an early Remlin 795 MM04k serial range and a year later a MM40k (going by memory so the numbers might be a bit off)
Both are flawless. Except for inside side of the bolts showing casting marks but who cares about that it does not affect function and is only visible when disassembled. Anyways I have heard they are better now.

The key to minimizing any factory defect is: INSPECT THE FIREARM
Both at the time of purchase and pickup. Go over everything.

The key to a well functioning firearm is: CLEAN THE FIREARM BEFORE FIRING THE FIRST TIME

Honestly I have not heard of many problems with the 795 since Remingtons takeover.
Sure I have heard of problems with the XT-22 line.. Which was a new product. They have since taken care of the issues from what I have heard.
Sure I have heard of problems with their lever actions stocks not fitting correctly.

About Remlins customer service:
I have never sent a rifle back but I did receive 2 795 magazines that were slightly out of spec. I emailed Remington and no questions asked they sent me out 2 brand new magazines ASAP.

About adding it to the DROS:
Some FFL's will let you add another rifle to an open rifle DROS.
Will Turners? No idea.
But it does not hurt to ask.

I just got a model 60. Perfect out of box. Only issue so far is it is perfect with some ammo and won't shoot some others. But I don't think it is the gun. A guy at range with a 795 could not shoot my federal target either.

You mean the Hi-Point? I have the carbine in .45 ACP and I love it. The thing is a beast and eats everything.

If you do buy one, the cheapest place to get mags that I've found was the Hi-Point website.

If it is anything like the marlin 700 it is a pain to clean and put back the recoil spring . But it is a accurate rifle that's for sure.

It's exactly like a 700 as the 700 was a Big 5 special variation of the 70.
The Marlin 70 was the predecessor to the 795.
Only thing really different would be the plastic stock, trigger color, and possibly the addition of the Last Shot Hold Open. (not sure if 700 had the LSHO or not).

All of these models are just the magazine fed variation of the Marlin 60 which was introduced 4 years before the Ruger 10/22 and has sold millions more than the it. (Not even counting the magazine fed variations)

IMO the rifle comes apart in its main components with ease.
Trigger guard/trigger
Stock
Action
Receiver / Barrel
Bolt / Recoil Spring and Rod

I agree the Bolt can be a little bit of a pain to remove and replace but its not that bad.
I have done it many many times and never kinked the recoil spring but I always keep a spare on hand.

There are millions of Marlin 60 out there that have probably never been cleaned in 40 some years and they are still ticking.

Guys,

So new 795 is as good as the old ones? no issues with them after Remington took it over? I have a old one and it functions flawless.

I am planning to get one more from turners.

thanks

You can always put a deposit down for the 795 and when the 60 get's in pay both off and DROS at the same time. They can do that. I've done it before. Just tell them.

I purchased a 795 from Big5 in December and other than a few ftf's and fte's thru the first 500 rounds or so during break-in, it has been very reliable. Fit and finish are good. I've heard some stories of the front sight being misaligned so be sure to check before purchase.

It boils down to being able to get two for the price of one 10/22. Too good of a deal to pass up - haven't seem them that cheap in quite a while.
