Default Breaking in Marlin 60

How long till my Marlin 60 breaks in? Right now it only shoots CCI standard velocity, and also Aguila Match Rifle without issues. Some ammo it won't eject, and others it won't feed.

Is this normal for a semi auto? Or did I get a lemon?

Id check the position of your ejector wire.
It should shoot pretty much every bulk right out of the box.
Neither of our 795 have ever had any FTF FTE.
But the 60 has a wire ejector unlike the 795's stamped metal one.
Apparently it can get out of place.

I am going to call Marlin tomorrow and ask them for a new rifle. Will I get re-DROS'd if they replace whole gun instead of repairing it?

.22 Autos tend to be finicky.

I'm fairly certain Marlin recommends high velocity, not standard. Standard and subsonics may not cycle semi-autos.

Well. Gun shoots CCI SV fine. But not Mini Mags!

At the range today:

I shot about 4 mags of FEDERAL PREMIUM GOLD MEDAL AMMO, .22 LR, 40 GR., LRN.

None would eject.

Then 4 mags of:

REMINGTON BUCKET O' BULLETS, .22 LR, 1400 ROUNDS

Ejected, but wouldn't load.

Then 4 mags of:

Aguila Match Rifle Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round Nose

ALL PERFECT. JUST LIKE CCI SV.

WTF?

Don't have an answer but am shocked. Marlin 60's are probably the most owned 22 and probably most reliable. I'd send it back without hesitation. Or at least call remlin and see what they say. There's no way it should be this problematic.

I'm sure they will replace or fix it. Could putting a Boyd stock on it have caused this problem?

They will have you send it in for repair, they are not going to issue a new rifle.

Yes they will ship it straight back to you.
If you call them they will most likely send you a return label so it will not cost you.

Most model 60's will eat any ammo. One of my favorite .22's

Could swapping the factory stock for Boyd stock made for model 60 have caused this?

I'll chime in also. I've shot every kind of bulk through my 60 since day one and never ever an issue.

Try putting the Marlin stock back on and see if your issue goes away.

Good Luck. The Marlin 60 is a shooter. I put an inexpensive bsa scope on mine as the basic irons were janky.

Thanks for all the help! I cleaned the action and put the factory stock back on. I'll send in if it still has problems.

If you are going to put the original stock back on its one extra step to check the ejector. All it will take is pulling the plastic pin out by hand on the back of the action and pull back and down on it. You would not have to take the action apart to check it just remove it from the receiver.

Shoot a whole bunch of what you can get for cheap and it cycles, lube the crap out of it, shoot it some more. Then shoot all the others after 500-1k of the cheapo stuff. See if the match cycles and go from there.

Thanks! I took apart the whole receiver/bolt etc and cleaned it last night according to the directions in the manual. Easier than I thought.

I'll probably send it in to get it fixed if it doesn't shoot well. I'm in no rush, and want it perfect. I love the rifle. I've only had it 6 days.

Yea. I'll just give it some time. I think I've put about 500 rounds through it so far. I shoot almost every day!

Shouldn't have to "break-in" a Marlin 60. I also have a Boyd stock on mine...can't think how their stock would cause the kinds of problems you're having.

Thanks! I'll send it it to get it fixed/replaced.

Glad I bought 2 rifles at once. At least I can shoot my Goldenboy!

Well. I got close to sending it back to Marlin. But today I went to the range and it shot CCI SV and bulk Winchester so well, I'm gonna keep it as is. Here's how it did at 50M. Bench rested. With Tech Sites. This was 14 shots.

Since I shot it bench rested I'm giving credit to the Marlin 60 and Tech Sites, not me.

Note: Marlin actions prefer light lubrication, almost dry. Heavy lube will just add to the problem.

Mine likes to be run sloppy wet. I don't typically run it that way though. One of my Marlin 60's is kind of my endurance rifle. I shoot it till its so dirty it won't fire anymore. I got it for $60.00 and treat it as such.
