Default Rifleman's Challenge

Here's an interesting site for those who might need persuading that attending an Appleseed might be worthwhile

That's a nicely put together site!

I've been poking around the Appleseed sites and just started ordering parts to upgrade my 10/22. Tech-Sites, Target Hammer from Volquartsen, Automatic Mag Release, Sling Swivels (on my stock synthetic stock - for now), GI Sling.

Nothing too expensive to start.

Down the road maybe I'll get a new stock and bull barrel and the extended mag release.

Looks like a lot of fun.

Sounds about like what I did. Mine has the factory wood stock, other than that it's the same gun. High of 228 with that gun, but my eyesight's a little iffy so basically I'd get 180s or 220s depending on if I guessed right where the 400 yard targets are. New glass prescription fixed that but I used a scope when I did a brushup a couple of years later just in case.

Anyway, definitely don't feel like you have to do anything expensive to shoot rifleman. That's plenty of rifle to do the job.

I have a pair of 10/22 carbines, and added tech sights ($69), sling swivels ($11) and the GI sling ($13), dropped in a poly recoil buffer ($5), extended mag release ($16), and a Brimstone tier 3 trigger job ($35). Oh, and my one splurge was the Kidd bolt handle ($36), which is MUCH more comfortable to grab than the little metal stock handle.

So I guess all in, I've added $185 to each rifle. Yeesh, seems like a lot, laid out like that, perhaps I went crazier with upgrades than I thought! And yet it really still feels simple and "stock" (and yet smoother operating), except for the tech sights, of course.

Other than the sights (fairly mandatory) and my "splurge" of the bolt handle, I guess it's really only $80, which includes the fantastic trigger job from Brimstone, a real bargain at $35, compared to all you can spend on unnecessary aftermarket trigger parts. Without the trigger job, which I'm sure most would see as a luxury item, a mere $45 plus the tech sights (which are a little pricey, unfortunately, yet well worth it) and you're in great shape for an Appleseed.
