Default Iraq IRR Recalls

Hey got a question for those who were active duty and have info or IRR and got recalled for Iraq. I was just wondering at what point did they resort to that. Was it instant or did they wait till after the first push. Wondering if I need to start getting things in order if this Syria buisness goes sideways

We had a bunch in my old unit get recalled..... What they did was send out letter they all had to come in for a physical/PFT/SRB audit on their drill weekend.

Then they got orders dropped on them. They must have had the clairvoyance to know that if they asked, they would not get the turnout they needed and/or they would not get anyone showing up for drills.

Lots of disgruntled Marines, but hey, they joined the USMC= U Signed the Mutha fricking Contract!

Was involuntarily recalled out of the IRR in Nov 2001. Got stop-lossed while on orders. Came home 20 months after recall.

"Pursuant to Presidential Order xxxxx, you are hereby ordered to return to active duty..."

I got that letter circa end of December 1991 to help support Desert Storm. I had ETS'd out of active duty 10/1991.

Doubt that their buildup will be similar now, but hope this helps you.

I was stop lossed back in '06 for my little visit to Iraq, which was funny, I was planning on extending for a year and then reenlisting once I got in country (which I did) so I could get the bonus tax free. Tried it again this time but sadly I have too many years in and will not be eligible for another bonus even though I'm in a pretty much low density MOS and even on Active Duty there is a shortage of 13Fs especially those with JFO certification. Oh well, at least I'm getting DESP, its no 10 grand but far better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Most of the guys I saw that were IRR that got recalled got snagged for their last year of their 8 year obligation.
Many got out in 04 or 05 after 5 years and got snagged 2 years later.

I want to say my buddy got snagged in 2010 or 2011. He was a reserve though. They wanted to send him to afghan for some basic support job. He wiggled his way out by volunteering or signing up to do something else stateside. However. I think they deployed him recently because I haven't been able to reach him.

Marines don't recall IRR members in their first year in the IRR, nor their last year in the IRR. Plus, you have to meet the height, weight, medical and dental requirements. And if the mobilization would create a financial hardship, or you're a key person in your industry/community; you can also elect not to deploy.

I tried to look it up in the MCRAMM, but couldn't find the reference. Here's an article about 2,500 Marines being recalled in 2009:

IRR call ups are going to happen when demand rapidly out-paces supply of critical MOSs We saw this at the start of the GWOT because we suddenly needed a large influx of MOSs that were limited and spread about the force. We had plenty of infantry and arty folks, but not enough linguists, interrogators and SOF as an example. They projected that they would be leaning heavily on a group of MOSs that they couldn't sustain with current incoming/outgoing numbers. And originally with OIF 2 they expected to be de-mobing most units by then instead of retaining them in theater and adding more, so IRR call ups and Stop Loss kicks in again.

I don't think we're going to see that again short of a major invasion somewhere.
