Default Sacramento County not accepting Weapons Modifications

Well I knew this was going to happen eventually, with people bugging the county and changing weapons almost monthly. Just got this email as should every CCWer in Sac County I assume:

Quote:
Attention: -----------------

Until further notice the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department will NOT be accepting appointments for "weapon" modifications to CCW Permits. We are ONLY accepting modification appointments for "address changes".

Should you have any questions, please contact us at ccw@sacsheriff.com
Well, I'm glad I have my 3 that I am set with. But hope they ease the flow soon.

Proof or source of anecdotal data that people are modifying monthly?

what a bummer, was going to be taking my Glock 19 off fairly soon and putting an M&P shield or XDS in its place.

This seriously sucks as I just jailed a Sig 1911 Ultra 4 days ago to replace my SR9c so I could get rid of 9mm from my carry items.

I got the email earlier today too. I really hopez they open up modifications within the next month or so....

I apologize for not following up with a sentence explaining my sarcasm. But actually I personally know co-workers who buy a new pistol and immediately swap them on the permits. So I used a little something called observation so make a sarcastic remark.

Received this email as well. Hoping it's only for NEW modification appointments. I've had one scheduled for awhile and it's not for another 3 weeks! Just want to add my Kahr P9. Hoping it will be honored.

I'm all set with what I have on now... I did make a change at my 2-year renewal (dropped a Charter Bulldog that shat the bed on me and replaced it with a Ruger SR40c) but other than that... I think I'll be fine until my next renewal appointment. This is a good reason to have more than just one gun on your permit. When they opened this up (Sac CCW) nobody thought they would stop allowing you to swap out guns... SURPRISE! What about people who only had one gun on their permit? If it breaks or gets stolen, they are just SOL as of right now until their renewal appointment.

I recieved the e-mail also, but I am still waiting for an approval. I'd like to believe this is a good sign. It's been 5 weeks since my inital interview.

FYI-

Responded to email from SSD regarding modification appointments by sending them an email asking if this was a temporary situation due to abacklog or was this going to be a permanent policy change.

The answer I got was "there is currently no discussion of opening these appointments back up".

Not very encoouraging.

Note: Also posted in Sacramento Chapter forum.

I gotta admit, this particular development makes some of the conspiracy theories look slightly less wacky. Slightly. They're still wacky, but this news is somewhat disturbing.

Ehh, I would not put too much stock into it. As many of us have seen, there are many guys that DROS a new firearm almost every month and then change their permits accordingly. They have every right to do so, but my thinking is that SSD is simply getting swamped by all the new applicants, modifications, etc.

Seems like a trade-off to this could be to let you list 5 or 6 on the permit (a smaller font could do this) or even let you have two cards at once. If you have a CCW, and qualify with the gun, what's the point in restricting which guns you can carry? Nevada, I think, allows you to carry pretty much anything, once you qualify with something.

heard thru the grapevine they will open appointments in September when they complete their move to the new location. They are swamped with doofuses changing their carry guns every other month. I never even made a modification in 2 years! Course this would be moot if CA would get rid of having to put each stupid gun on your permit and just say every pistol/revolver is good to go that you own.

Default Sacramento County not accepting Weapons Modifications

Ha ha! Damn doofuses (doofi?)!
I added two additional guns back in 2011, no changes since then. Adding/dropping guns several times a year--can't see much of a reason for that.

Drop the 3 gun thing.
Nevada:
Note:
Beginning
Oct 1, 2013 you can qualify with any type of firearm and can carry any type of firearm you own.
Your Instructor should inform you of that.
There will be no more Revolver, Semi-auto or both listed on your permit. There will be no more listing of firearms by serial number on your Permit as the new law is below. I do not know how this will affect permits already issued and if you still have to carry one listed on your previously issued permit. I would say that you can now carry any firearm you own. The law does state, Handgun owned by the person or obtained thereafter.
NRS 202.36572.
A person applying for a permit may submit one application and obtain one permit to carry all handguns owned by the person. The person must not be required to list and identify on the application each handgun owned by the person. A permit is valid for any handgun which is owned or thereafter obtained by the person to whom the permit is issued.

Why the heck do they need to perform interviews for this? Why not make it an online system were you enter in the serial and be done with it?

It's not an interview, you just give them the training paperwork for you new guns and they print out a new card. Doing it online might work though.

Someone would still have to do whatever record keeping they do beyond keeping a copy of the license. They'd also have to type up the new license, laminate it, and mail it. They'd also need to set up some kind of secure system that streamlines verification by the instructor who signed off on your qualification.

being a doofi! is much better than a DI-FI! .......

however in my case, and the state of CCW aquisistion in Ca, I had no idea if I would even qualify for LTC..... so spending 500 bones on a sub compact before I got the rice paper wasnt going to happen....I would have no other use for it....

So fast forward to change one... three months into being a new CCW holder....I wanted something in a compact......
I was pretty good for awhile then summer came along and I decided to get somthing a little smaller again....change number two at 9 months....

since both changes were to a Glock im sure i wont be doing it again anytime soon.

personally I think the whole thing with listing guns is another form of control and makes no sense what so ever......you should carry a gun that is registered to you and with a radio and a few clicks on a key board they know everthing about that weapon and you.....

This is what happens when you have to ask for permission, sometimes the permission gets revoked.
Not sure why the sheriff has a problem, don't they charge a fee for the service of making changes to the permit?
Here in Fresno they charge (last time I checked) $10 for modifications.
If there are really so many that the sheriff is troubled by it then you would think he would be making some coin by charging a fee, thereby able to hire additional employees.
Sounds to me like political manuevering.

Heck in Fresno it costs $10 and 10 minutes for modifications.
For renewals there is no such thing as an appointment, just show up at finger printing with your class cert and da $$$ and 10 minutes later you are out the door.

No changes as of this time.

Some people asked about the process - they have to still use the same computer system to update the record, print out the permit (it is a local printer as the permit is a multi-copy DOJ document).

They've been busy with new permits and renewals - this is based on the lead time to get an appointment. The staff who do the interviews also handle the reviews of paperwork outside of the time of the appointments.

There has been talk that the bureau may be relocating to another office away from downtown to the Arden-Hurley area. I don't have any update on timeframe for that.

Nevada got smart... they changed the CHL to reflect what you qualified with for CHL-
Any Pistol
Any Revolver

Leave the liability to the firearm owner past the CHL qual test.

There are some people who change the guns on the LTC as often as some people change clothes. I know people who would like to add one to the current permit (gun issue during day of qualification) who are in the same position. I also know some people who would like to add a sub-compact to the LTC.

We'll just have to wait. I'm trying to make some contacts to get more information.

I got my Nevada permit last year and it's nice to know that I can carry (concelled) any handgun that I can legally wish to carry.
