They are terrific. When I was in the hospital after my accident at work, they literally met my wife at the hospital on the first day and gave her $1500 to help with hotels and other expenses so she could come see me everyday. Then they gave financial assistance the first few months I was on medical duty and wasn't able to work and had to go to therapy an hour away 5-6 times a week.

I now make monthly donations to the 100 Club and am a huge advocate for them.

Tragic about the Firefighters, that is the one single way that I am afraid to die. I know we give hose draggers a lot of ****, but they are true heroes, and it's horrible to lose these fine men.

The average age is actually 27+ years old...but in all honesty that doesn't even matter. I was speaking to a fireman friend of mine and he said the fire was having some very erratic burn patterns due to weather. To lose that many in one incident something unusually catastrophetic had to have happened. Damn shame.

If nothing else, hopefully they took comfort in knowing they were with their brothers in the trenches. They got dealt a bad hand... RIP

The whole 1st responder community/nation is deeply saddened by this tragic loss.

Prayers sent out to the families and friends.

Yeah my info on the average age was from an early report...

The monsoons were the cause of the wind shift.....

Tragic and immeasurable loss. The whole community is gut punched...

My wife worked a memorial last night for these guys. They anticipated around 500 people showing up... Over 1,000 folks were inside. So many in fact that it filled the building at the college where the event was held.. She said there were hundreds standing outside. Very few dry eyes....

Those Hot Shot crews are fearless. Hiking/jumping into the middle of some of the roughest terrain to cut firebreaks, knowing that if the winds shift in a bad way may you have no way to escape... now that's courage. I can only imagine how the lone survivor feels, hopefully someone is keeping a close eye on him...

One of the 19 was in my company a few years back. A little before my time but a brother none the less. Rest easy gentleman.
