Here's my targets for Summer - July:

Chabot Gun Club - Henry AR-7

25 Yard Irons - Benched - Eley Target

Score = 161

At first you are probably wondering what happened to round #3 at the bottom middle. Round #3 went through the hole for Round #1. Watched the hole enlarge a teeny bit after firing Round #3. I think this is only the second time I've done this kind of thing.

50 Yard Irons - Benched - Eley Target

Score = 99

Touch-3 on both targets. 3rd touch on bottom target is an "8" - not a "9".

100 Yard Irons - Benched - Eley Target

Score = 37

Was windy. Plus, all I really see when sighting the 100 Yard Irons target is a black dot. That's it...

Chabot is kind of nice. Pretty convenient to be able to unload / load nearby and then park just a ways off.

I had some 25 Yard Pistol Irons - Freehand - but I lost 'em. Kinda glad cause I suck at pistol. Score of "23" on my best one.

=8-)

Yep...

...but then again, that instruction is not included on the target like with the 100 yard.

Have a lot to keep track on when at the range...

Thumbs up JULY RIFLE TARGETS

I went out to Sac Valley outdoor range to shoot some 50 and 100 yard iron sight and to test out the new AR15. It was a great day, nice weather light winds. I was very happy with my 100 yard scores as I was able to shoot my personal best using Lapua Center X ammo.

The AR 15 was awesome, I was able to shoot a few sight in targets at 100 yards and tried some 55 grain factory and 75 grain hand loads. The 1:8 barrel loved the 75 gr loads and produced a .490 ,3 round group, I was thrilled because it is a great starting point. Also I was able to qualify to shoot the 300 yard range Sac Valley, that's a long way but should be a fun challenge.

Attachment 249425

Attachment 249426

50 yard irons 10 shots 109
50 yard irons 6 shots 62
100 yard irons 5 shots 42

Shot a bunch of targets today down in Rainbow, Ca. Couldn't post as when I got home my mountain was on FIRE. Been a little hectic getting stuff together in case I have to evacuate. Doesn't appear we will have to but just want to be prepared.

Probably post the results tomorrow.

Hi, first post (since I lost my old login from many years ago) and first CalGuns Rimfire Match! Today I was shooting the Kimber M82 Government with Wolf Match Target that I shoot for our club smallbore prone league. Sights are the Kimber aperture sights that it came with. Shot all three targets from a bench but it felt really weird so I might try slung up prone next month, at least for 50 and 100.

25 Yard Irons 245 (Corrected, added bonuses wrong)
50 Yard Irons 68
100 Yard Irons 56

Last edited by Aardwolf; 07-21-2013 at 9:36 PM.. Reason: Addition error on 25yd bonus, should be +21 for total of 245.

Thanks!

The Kimber has been great. I bought it in January through CMP as a "rusty". (Pics were taken after unboxing, before any cleanup. Most of the orange color you see is yellow/orange presevative.)

It's one of the later serial numbers and groups have only gotten tighter as it's broken in. I'm keeping up with the $1500 Anchutz rifles (plus sights) most in our league are shooting. At $450 shipped with sights it was a steal. We only shoot prone for smallbore here but I've played around with three position for fun; it's a real bear offhand - 10.25 lbs and barrel heavy. Might be better with a butt hook, though.

BTW, most of the rust was on the sights: the adjusting knobs, mounting nuts and rear aperture disk.

The bolt parts had a some rust and the firing pin was quite rusty.

Again, most of the yuck is preservative and loose rust stuck to the preservative.

Everything cleaned up pretty good with 0000 steel wool but has needed touchups on the adjusters and disk. Minor four inch long cut on forearm from the 90's inventory. The manual took one for the team there, it was cut though a few pages deep but just happened to protect the rifle from what could have been a twelve inch long slash.

Alternating 0000 and lemon oil a couple times and the stock has lost that dull look it has in the first few pics. Looks really nice now.

This was posted in the May Match (in which you participated) and every match before that and has not changed:

Rules:
This is an online match. Print off the targets, shoot where and when you want. Come back and post your targets for those in your face bragging rights!! I do encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the Rifle/Pistol can be locked down is verboten.

All rifle targets shot from a homemade bench (part of elite equipment) using a plastic patio chair for seating (part of elite equipment) using a front Caldwell Benchrest, rear Shooters Ridge rest, left elbow resting on homemade bench to keep it level, ear protection, shooting glasses and ball cap on backwards to keep the wind from blowing it off my head.

In earlier months threads, it was indicated that scores would be separated into bench and non-bench scoring.

On par with SK Std + and Wolf Match Target. Not better not worse although I have not shot it yet @ 100yds. It did not shoot well in my Savage MKII.

We did OK with the fire. It got close but thanks to all the gallant efforts of the firefighters, aircrews and our own local Mountain Disaster Preparedness Organization we were unscathed. Fire got within about 1.5 miles of the town but the aircrews were dropping fire retardent on the mountain ridge to keep it from coming over the mountain into town. A great effort all around. Thanks.

PS: my locat shooting area was burned to a crisp. I'm doubtful that it will open again anytime soon.

Just found this whole thread. I know it's the middle of the year, but I'm assuming there's no harm in starting to shoot with you guys now, right?

Looking forward to it. Probably will take these targets to Chabot this weekend.

Gonna miss the shooting area. Now I gotta drive 125 miles round trip to shoot. Cost more in gas than it does in ammo.

Thanks Pete, I am having a blast shooting that Mossberg with the iron sights, I am seeing some improvements in my scores even at 50 and 100 yards. also the best group so far from the AR15 with my hand loads is .490 at 100 yards.

Still welcome to come up and help with the squirrels here. Broke down and purchased a scope to reach out and touch them a bit more effectively, but not as well as that .17 of yours will.

Yep, but I am more interested in how she's gonna shoot. Might need some Lapua Midas+ or Eley Tenex to get the most out of her. Nice looking upgrade.
