In summary on Friday, May 3, 2013 the Los Angeles City Council passed a measure to begin drafting an ordinance declaring that standard capacity magazines are a public nuisance, and their possession a misdemeanor. That means if you live in a city like Burbank (that is surrounded by Los Angeles on all sides), you cannot leave the city with a standard capacity magazine without breaking the law.
Despite several written letters of opposition by pro 2A organizations regarding state preemption, and most recently a similar ban in Richmond that was repealed, they chose to move forward. So the city will now face a potential multimillion dollar state preemption lawsuit that the city doesn't have the funds to pay for. Please contact your council representative, and let the voice of opposition be heard. Here is a link to the city's webpage so you can find out who your Council representative is by entering and address or cross street. This includes the current Mayoral Candidate Eric Garcetti of District 13, and Chair of the Public Safety Committee Mitchell Englander of District 12 Here is a link to all the members of City Council so you can let them all know how you feel. Here is a current map of the City of Los Angeles if you're not aware of how big L.A. Really is: ![]()

Im not sure about Lakewood, but I believe Cerritos, and Long Beach are their own incorporated cities, so they would not be included.

Next, lawsuits costing hundreds of thousands of $$$.
Lawyers making other lawyers richer. (Sorry Gene). Same old story with politics. Pass a law, it goes court, and the lawyers make lots of money from the lawsuits. |

It's a good thing that all my mags are legal 10 round capacity mags, or I'd be in serious trouble since I work in DTLA. |

No, permanently modified magazines that hold only 10 rounds are fine. I think you both missed the ">" (greater than sign).

Oh sorry, told you I was an idiot.. But maybe its because I've been in Commi-pornia my whole life but I thought anything over 10 rds. was already illegal? I still think its bull**** but I guess I'm just used to this soft tyranny by now..

How can they tell what's an illegal hi capacity mag vs what's legally (or not legally) blocked? How can they tell what kinds of mags are going to be used in what caliber firearms? This law will fall on its' FACE.

The way I understand it is that it needs to be permanent which is why people use rivets. Another option would be to buy the block and they epoxy the spring to them.

I thought no ban was passed yet? From LA Times:
[For the record, 6:04 p.m. May 3: An earlier version of this post said the ban on high-capacity gun magazines had been passed when in fact the 11-0 vote was to draft an ordinance proposing the ban.] Has this since changed? Where is the actual text of this ban? |

Another reason I moved East. I wanted out of LA County so I moved to a friendly 2a County.
A lot of people talk trash about San Bernardino county but I'm sure they've never spent time in some of the great areas. It's like looking at LA County as just Compton.

I dont think rebuild kits apply, u can have these kits to build 10 round magazines or to take out of state. Kits are not magazines.

Anyone know when this takes effect? While I don't live in LA, I work there in my part-time job, in which I use normal capacity magazines. Guess I need to find some reduced-capacity ones...
Gonna be confusing, I can use normal magazines when I'm at work for the City, then have to use reduced ones for my part-time gig... *sigh*
