Default Golden Bullets are the best.....

For my Ruger MK II. After two trips to the range trying 6 different bullet types the Golden Bullet seams to work best. Smallest 5 shot group. Second was MM JRN, Third was ?Thunder Bolt?? Forth Blazer LRN, Fifth Win HP, and last was the Fed HP. Today all fed with no problem what-so-ever. First 10 shots were OH, second 10 from bench with Sand Bag rest. 20 shots each type. I looked at the overall group size , smallest group, most touching groups of 2 or more and closest to POA. All from 7 yards with the stock fixed sights. Will do this a couple of times more and see if these results will stay the same. All indoor. I did not think the GB or the TB would perform that high.
See you at the range.

I went in with no pre-concieved thoughts on what would be the best. After i get better will kick it out to 15 yards and see what the results will be. Then will try my match stuff. My Glenfield/Marlin 60 hates the GB and the TB stuff, loves the MM and Blazer LRN.

Glad they worked out well for you. Shows you each .22 firearm truly has it's own ammo preference. My experience with Remington Golden bullets have not been golden in my .22 MK II or any of my other .22 pistols.

The OP isn't the first to poo-poo the "GB are junk" bunch. Good illustration of the fact that rimfires are ammo picky - or, in the OP's case he's lucky and his Ruger isn't. I'd hang on to that one!

I just got some of the golden bullets to test out. I've really enjoyed the blazer .22 in my ruger 22/45, hopefully the golden bullets work out well in it as well.

The new "Improve Golden Bullets" works great. I have fired about 2800 rounds with only about a hand full of failure to fire. No feeding problems or FTE in my SR22, Browning 1911-22, M&P22, HK-MP5 .22 and ruger 10/22. I have notice that does shoot dirty, compared to Winchester 555 or M22 Etc.

+1

I opened the thread as I though it may be a joke. I had a GB blow up in chamber that ruined a barrel. Not happy at all with GB.

Good for you OP, glad they worked out....

I had a box of 550 that I bought when I picked up my 22A last month (it was the only big brick the shop had in stock). I had never used them before and I didnt like them much. The first 200 rounds out of the box I had FTF, FTE's and jams. I have 2 large pill bottles full of the FTF's complete with the strike mark from the firing pin. The next 250 did a little better, but still at least 1 FTF on each mag. When I was at the range Friday, I even had one fail to feed and the bullet broke off from the shell.

I have 100 rounds left, and when that is gone I wont be buying anymore.

But if your gun likes em, then shoot em

7yds is not a good accuracy indicator for such gun. U need to test it at 50yds. The ruger is far more capable than a regular handgun . You may be very dissapointed. Gb 22lr is the WOrst 22 ammo ever produced and many will agree. Its dirty as hell fouls up very quick and isnt priced well either compared to the fed or win value packs

I have had more problems with Federal not firing...

I have never had an issue with case-head-separation with golden bullets either.

I think I have had like 2 duds with Federal, but this is out of like 2000.

This IS only out of my 10/22.

I traded some 38sp/357mags for the GB, TB, MM and some match bullets as i wanted to see what was what for the Ruger. As i posted as i get better i will go out to 15/25/50 yards. I bought the MK II from a pawn shop, it looks like it had never been fired, had only one mag and a holster. All i know is that its a lot of fun to shoot. See you at the range.

GB's are what my 10/22 prefers over all the other bulk packs I've tried. They shot great groups and have virtually zero Ftf/fte. Lbbbb.

I have used Golden Remingtons in the past. They are not bad. I would put them at about 90%+ of being as good as Federal Champion Blue Box but noticeably dirtier. Decent accuracy, slightly lower reliability. You will notice that on some lots of Goldens the bullet has some "wiggle" against the shell casing.

I've never had a problem with Golden Bullets, All my .22's eat anything I give them. And almost any brand has wiggle bullets, No problem there either for me.

Back in the late 80's I used GB's and found them to be great. They came in the plastic boxes with the slide. Years later when they went bulk they were inconsistent sounding and not at all accurate but the worst was that they were very dirty.
I would have to put them in the previously referenced "SUCKS DONKEY NOODLE" category.
But it IS interesting that some find them to be fine.

Every gun has it's own preferences on ammo.. but for whatever reason.. MANY guns just do not like Remington GBs. When you do find a gun that loves them, its great. There have been a few occasions that I've been stuck with only GBs, and its nice to have a gun that will handle them reliably. I've also seen people try to get rid of GBs whether it be passing them up at the store or buying them and trying to trade for a lesser amount of Federals etc.

My Sig (GSG) 1911 loves them.. have already put around 600 rounds of GBs without cleaning and zero issues. It brings a smile to my face every time.

Then stretch your legs by warming up a rifle...see what kind of groups the long barrel gets you.

...all that said and done, if it works for you, it works for you...and if you've got ammo to shoot, have fun!

My gripe with the Remington Golden Bullets isnt from feeding or extracting problems. Its the problem with the high percent of them not going off. For example out of a box of 525 rounds, I will have a dud count on average of 15 to 25. What I did is pulled the bullets out of the duds and found the problem to be the priming mixture not going al the way around the rim of the case. Rechambering the rounds at a different clocked positon will make the fire. One note. This is not the GB ammo thats marked "new and improved". I cant comment on those because Im turned off on buying any more Remington rim fire ammo and I would never try them. YMMV---

IMHO... GB's are some of the worse .22LR's out there... That said, they run in all my guns... So i don't care for plinking. It's also allowed me to pickup many cases (10 bulk boxes per case) of Remington GB's for between $60 and $100.

Just curious 'cause this might sound wired but I have an old 10/22 and an e en older Mk I. Yes as in 1. Also just recently got gifted a Winchester 67

Anyways they are it seems pretty ammo agnostic. They've shot everything and I honestly can't tell the diff. I have right now 4 boxes of GB and we've (me and my boys) already shot in the past few months a couple other boxes. Honestly they seem to work fine. Accurate enough. We're mostly banging steel plates.

Does age of a firearm have anything to do with it? Maybe newer guns have tighter tolerances or lighter firings pins. Not saying just wondering.

They shot not great. Not bad. Good enough. Gotta tell you though my 10/22 loves yellowjackets. Turned out they are really accurate in my 10/22. It was a lucky score from a late night ammo hunt. Dumb luck!!

At one time I seriously considered covering a favorite song by using Rem GB's as the only instrument. That is, they are so inconsistent that I think they'll do the entire musical scale in 25 or so shots.

I love GB, they're cheap, fire every time, don't jam any of my firearms (10/22 AA Glock conversion, WZ-48) and they're accurate. I know this is not the case for a lot of you.

I had 3 bulk packs of GB that I bought back in the day, before I researched rimfire ammo. I was just saving it for SHTF barter ammo at this point, and then I saw what it was going for on Gunbroker. I started two 550 bulk packs for a total of 1100 rounds for $.01 with no reserve. Somebody thought that was worth $162 shipped... The 525 bulk pack is up now with no reserve...

My 22's likes GB's. 10/22 loves them and hates anything Federal. Mk I and others don't care what I put them. The old GB's were junk but that was years ago. Goes to show a negative reputation is hard to overcome.

Golden Bullets turned into Gold for you. I checked GB and wow, what people are willing to spend for .22LR is staggering.

Not true at all. Since the 'new n improved' version came out, all of the guys I know personally has tried them out. Over 25 guys. All shooting 1022's from stock to heavily modded, ruger mk's, brownin buckmarks, swtrails, and a few remmys....none of them liked the gb 22. It still has the same issues as before. cci was top knotch, very few if any jams, very consitant, very few if any fail to fires and very accurate. The fed and win bulk stuff is the only secondary stuff we use. In my lifetime of shootin cci, i've had maybe 2 failed to fires out of thousands of rds..........imo, the biggest deal breaker for the gb22 is that it isnt priced cheaper than the fed or win, but actually priced higher WTF is remmy thinkin..imo we know remmys other ammo lines are always more expensive

If you think GB's are good, than you haven't used wolf or Eley.

In my experiance GB's are the ultimate in poor products made in america.
