I am looking to buy a scope for my wife's Stag Model 4. She will be shooting between 100 yards to about 150 yards most of the time, but when we go visit family in AZ & TX she'll be shooting about 500 yards. It has to be a simple scope to operate for her to use. She would zero it in herself. I get "the look" just for touching her AR. (that I built from scratch for her). I would like to keep it under $500 (including mount or rings).
Any ideas? I was looking at the leupold AR platform scope. Is that a good one? |

Primary Arms' FFP scope might be worth taking a look at if you want a little more magnification. Price is right too, and it would be helpful for the varying ranges she'll be running it at. I had one on my Remy 700 before I had to sell it, its a great and versatile option.

Take a look at the M223's. The 2-8x or the 3-12x would be a great choice. BDC reticle is great when changing distances often and not wanting to use turrets. 3 minutes on Nikons Spot On program and you can print out a ballistic card that will have all the holdover points even at various magnifications. I have a 3-12x42 M223 on a AR build that I love.
http://www.opticsplanet.com/s/m223?brand=27 I saw Burris Mtac get a shout and have to give that another +1. Buddy is running one of those and he thinks the thing is awesome. Trevor B.

They're okay. The 1-4 or 3-9, and BDC reticule on top that fits with 55gr pretty well are good selling points for it. I also know of a guy who has a used super sniper 3-9 in good rings and he wants 600, that is a very good scope for the price.

I had a 4-12 Mark AR in an American Defense QD mount and it was an awesome setup. With m193 ammo, i could make repeatable shots on steel out to 600 yards out of a JP upper and a geissele trigger. I highly recommend those for most AR setups

I' am a real big fan of Nikon optics. The M and P series are pretty nice for the price. For a more standard approach the Buckmaster line is nice also. I ran a 4.5-14x40 mildot on my AR for a while until I had to sel my optics for medical bills.

Another great option right now is the Vortex Viper HS series. You can get a 4-16x for around 500 or so. It may put you a bit over the mark with a mount, but the glass is stellar for the price.

![]() ![]() Here is an example of possible wind conditions. I see a lot of scopes out with BDC but they lack wind dots of marks. Shooting .223 or 5.56 Past 300yards the round never goes center and at 600 a 5mph will push it 2.66'! And at 10mph 5.29'. Wind is always there,if not where u are at then at the target. I added the wind dots to the ACSS and hold on them 60% of the time the other 40% I am holding half way. Either buy something with wind marks or learn your wind and how much to hold or dial for drift.
