1500 to 2000 rounds will fit neately in a moderate sized back pack, more if they are dumped out into a ziplock or three.

I repackage my SHTF ammo in bags of 400-500. Takes up less space and and doesn't rattle around in my pack. Just weighed a bag of 400 and its 2.5 lbs. I don't think I would want to burden myself with more than 10 pounds of ammo, so around 2000 rounds. If I had to I'd take more, but I don't envision myself being alone in a SHTF scenario so all ammo would be split up.

if your carrying ammo for another gun, plus food and water, and its all carried on your body, you will be lucky to carry a single box of 500.

the other day i put on my plate carrier with my two ar500 plates, 500 rounds of 22, 4 30 round pmags, 4 14 round mags for my 45, a medical kit, my shotgun loaded with 5 rounds of buck and 4 slugs, and another 10 rounds of buck in a molle carrier. i walked around the house in the air conditioning and after 3 minutes i was hurting.

this is why in a real SHTF situation, im staying put in my nice house with all my nice supplies, or in a vehicle. on foot, i would realistically carry my m6 22 survival rifle broken down with no more than 300 rounds of ammo and my 45 with 4 to 8 mag's (no loose ammo) and my shotgun. along with a medical pack and some waterfilters and a couple bricks of datrex emergency rations.

i carried 2 500 rd box of 22's and its quite heavy and plus u have all Ur survival stuff. I was thinking about jus having 500 rounds of 22's but only for big games (head shots) or self defense. I would also carry a pump action airgun and 5000 rounds .177 bb's which comes in a small container for small games. In shtf scenario I wouldn't wanna waste a 22 on a squirrel or birds, ill take em out with an air gun plus it's alot quieter. Any of u guys thought about air guns for shtf?

I've rucked around a 240B a spare barrel and 800 Rounds of 7.62x51 for miles in Montana. I assume I could carry a ***** ton of 22lr, but sadly with present market conditions I couldnt buy enough 22lr to really see how much I could carry.

Realistically, I'd probably take more like 100rnds.

Enough so I could come up on a more effective weapon to replace or supplement the .22 I have.

I don't consider a .22 long rifle cartridge any sort of big game or self defense cartridge. (Primary). These movie script SHTF scenarios that are a mixture of the LA Riots/Mad Max/Book of Eli adventure/urban war stories will require larger calibers for hunting (big game) and self defense. The .22 or a good Air rifle would work for harvesting rabbits and perhaps some birds. But I don't think many targets of opportunity would exist in downtown LA (hahaha).

On 'we aren't coming back' camping trip, sure. But you had better not be on foot because you can't begin to carry enough supplies on your back.

In my mind your primary gun should be a rifle (carbine) that can generate some accuracy and firepower. It isn't the .22 rimfire. More like a Mini 14/30, AR, AK, etc. For sure something that holds more than 10 rounds.

Second choice in the rifle carbine department would be a good lever gun. Paired with a sidearm you could simplify your ammo requirements and still take food (big game) and have enough firepower and accuracy (red dot?) to
fend off an attack. A .357 marlin comes to mind paired with a Ruger GP-100.

Like some posters above, I feel the best place to be is at HOME. Bug out at HOME. Home is where the food, water, medical supplies and guns/ammo live.

My 10/22TD bag looks like it will hold about 2000rds. Not planning on carrying it, just more of a grab-n-go to quickly throw in the truck.

None, I am just going to calmly walk behind the guys running around in a fully loaded tac vest with thousands of rounds of what they are carrying.

Then when they pass out because they didn't realize you actually have to move more than 10 feet, I will just grab what I need. I wont take all the ammo, that would just be mean.

Maybe 500 rounds. But it would be a tertiary gun at best. I'd be rockin' some rifle as a primary and 9mm as a secondary. Hypothetically speaking....

i had never planned on any type of cart or buggy, but my wife got me a rugged gear 3 gun cart for xmas and im digging it when i go to clays or tactical pistol.

i do like that worst case scenario i can ditch ammo or supplies and put one of the kids or even my wife in big section. but seriously, with two young children and my knee's and back being the condition they are , i have zero plans on going anywhere. running around with a pack of the 8000 rounds you have stocked up just means you will die tired.
