Default IS 17HMR ammo hard to get too or is it just 22LR?

I haven't noticed alot of people offering up 17hmr ammo on the private marketplace forums. IS this because nobody wants it, there's alot around, or people are just not selling it and keeping it all? At about 15.00 a box for 50rds, it's not that bad. 22LR is almost that price already or passed it. That's ridiculous. I think i'm going to gather all the 17hmr I can and shoot it instead of 22LR.

.17 HMR was one of the last rimfires to remain on the shelves. But even those have now disappeared at most places. They are had to find and when you do find them, expect to pay much more than before the insanity.

You can still find it here and there. I still see 17 mach 2 here and there too.

I think it will become scarce if the demand for .22LR remains so high. I would suspect that the same factory lines would be used for both and .22LR is by far, the more used.

About as plentiful as 22WMR. I still see them at walmart, it lasts at least a full day after a shipment.
No one offers it up for sale since there isn't as much of a market to mark them up.
They buy up the popular calibers to sell at 2-3x the price. So it sits on the shelves longer. People who buy them to use, not to resell.

I have seen .17 HMR at almost all of the 10 or so Walmarts I have been shopping lately.
The most pleniful ammo I see at walmart anyways is .300 Win Mag and .270

It's gotten more scare now then when I bought my .17 HMR's, a Henry Lever .17 Varmint Express and a Marlin XT-17 Bolt. Ammo wise? I'm good.... 2500 rounds....

The two walmarts in my area consistently carry 17hmr. Usually winchester 17gr polymer tip and cci 20gr fmj.

Now 17 hmr is the easiest rimfire round to find, no question. It's readily available online if you look in the right places.

Big 5 also has .17HMR most of the time.

Between walmart and Bass pro, I've been able to get around 3k rounds in the past 2 months. It dried up a couple weeks ago, but has started to come back.

I buy for my dad too since he cant seem to find it so thats why I have bought so many rounds.

My LGS has a big empty spot where the .22lr would be on the shelf, but the shelf below is fully stocked with 17HMR

Can you shoot 17hmr's out of a Ruger 10/22 lr? I'm new to those rounds and see them everywhere!

Thanks, that what I thought. I got confused when in the first post it was mentioned, "I think i'm going to gather all the 17hmr I can and shoot it instead of 22LR". Must have meant he's changing guns not ammo!
Thanks again

I found some at wallyworld for 13.00 plus tax a box for 50rds. I think i'm going to retire my 22LR rifle and shoot my 17hmr rifle. I could probably sell
22lr and use that money to buy 17hmr. However, i'm not going to do that. I'll just shoot really slowly and not go ballistic at the range. Good shootin everyone.

I just got a Savage Mk II in .22LR in March hoping that .22LR will eventually come back in stock and at a decent price. I wanted to keep the same caliber as my 10/22 just to make it easy.

If the .22LR situation doesn't get better in the next few months, I guess I will have to go back and get the same gun in 17 HMR. I had no problem finding ammo when I was in Wisconsin for it...dozens of boxes from various manufacturers at most of the stores I visited.

We already have an "Ammo Finds" thread folks...

....let's not fork threads. Join the existing one:

...and if you pay attention, I myself just posted a link to .17 HMR the other day.
