I'd Love to Get a .22 Colt Diamondback...
... but I just can't swing the cash right now. I'm definitely a fan of the look of the Diamondback and their reputation for quality. I also like the idea of getting firearms that do a good job of holding their value.
I've been shooting more .22 lately in order to keep my costs down and still shoot regularly. Can anyone make recommendations for a similarly high quality .22 revolver that doesn't break the bank to purchase. Thank you for any suggestions! |

A good used K22 S&W, either a Model 17 or the pre-17 (my favorite) would be an excellent choice. They can usually be found for around $600 give or take. A pre-17 could be purchased off an auction site as they are roster exempt due to being C&R.

I used to have a Model 18 that I bought used. Similar to the 17 but has a 4 inch barrel and is less "targetty" (called the Combat Masterpiece) which sometimes makes them cheaper than the 17. It has a ramp front sight instead of a patridge.
It's one of my "wish I'd never sold it" guns. |

I'd also vote for the Model 17--mine is the best shooting revolver I own. I also have A high Standard Sentinel which is a well made gun BUT has less than good trigger--very stiff and not smooth

I was looking for a SW Model 18 or 17 and could not find one close by (California face to face purchases required). Stumbled on a Diamondback .22, but had to pay premium price of $1250! Don't regret it now. Love the revolver. I know it will increase in value. Although I probably won't ever sell it.

I went down this road 9 years ago and turned my nose at a nib 6" .22 DB for $800. Since then every year I keep watching them go up and up. I think a good second choice to the DB is the Dan Wesson .22 revolver.
I actually ended up falling in love with a 1934 Harrington & Richardson 9 shot Sportsman and my wife fell for a 1981 7.5" 9 shot H&R 976. Both are true .222 and both are double action/single action. VERY Very accurate, the 1934 was made by the same men and machines that made the U.S.R.A. single shot still deemed by some to be the most accurate handgun ever made and still used in competition today.
