Default Deadwoodboys All Shotgun Match

I have been wanting to put on an "All Shotgun Match" for sometime now. We have finally come up with a date Saturday, JUNE 29th. It will be 6 stages, at least 3 categories Open, Limited, And Pump and will follow basic USPSA rules.
You will shoot anywhere from 15 to 25 rounds per stage. You will be required to shoot Bird, Buck, and a few slugs. (More on that to follow later)
We will have an extensive array of targets from static to moving as well as spinners, stars and rabbits.
I want to keep the cost down so I'm not going to get into a prize table, I will however do a trophy for the winners of each division. If I get prizes donated they will be given away by luck of the draw.
Now for what you all have been looking for: the cost. The entry fee will be $40.00 for non-DWB or X3 members and $30.00 for members. I figure we can handle 60 to 80 shooters comfortably and I have talked our cook Latin Gun into cooking for us. It should be a really great time and I hope you all take advantage of this opportunity.

I will update this thread as things change.

As you can see by the attachments listed below I have finally gotten around to making the Match Flyer and Match Application. Please download them and spread the word to your friends and I would encourage you to mail in your apps with your squadding request written on the back.

See you on the range

I say start a pre-registration list, cause this will be huge! Planning for 60-80 and having 150 show up will suck.

$40 pre-registration, $500 day of registration will keep it closer to your number.

Can someone bring a truck load of shells?
Otherwise I can't shoot that much shotgun at one outing

Get a shotgun that you dont have to load round for round and you'll find shotgunning much more exciting

I think you're right, man. My eyesight is fading and I'm no longer under 40 so Open division may be for me!

Would anyone (who matters oppose to the international buckshot targets. I like them because it is an inexpensive target 8x11 sheet with a rectangle delinating the A Zone.
I like them for extended range buckshot targets. Single A or two C to neutralize. We were shooting these out to 50 yards for that Pan Am shotgun thing in Ky. To reset you hit a cardboard backer with spay adhesive and slap on a new 5x11 photocopy. It resets 10x faster than taping. It presented some interesting shooting problems. Having both hot and reduced recoil buck was plus. Also knowing which choke held a pattern at that distance which is not nessasarily always a full.

That or we could just put out scuba tanks and other monster pieces of steel. We have all see that though.

We used them at the Bay Area shotgun match last year and it definitely makes it possible to shoot buckshot on paper. Shooting on regular IPSC targets just wastes too much time taping, these are a breeze to reset.

Hey Cal Gunners, It's time to get serious about this match.
I have edited my first post and added the flyer and application.
Please download them and send them in asap, the match will fill up.

We used a 1/2 plywood backer for these too,, super fast reset,, one guy spray the sticky stuff, next guy slaps on the new target,,

I noticed that under the pump regs, it says 5+1... I have a pump that i run in He-man at SLOSA that is 10+1 will that bump me to Open... if it does, I might as well throw a red dot on there...

Or will you let me run 8+1 at the buzzer and then load two after? That is USPSA rules I believe for tactical shotgun.

Dakine,

USPSA is max of 9 in the gun at any one time for Tactical.
Yes, putting 11 in the gun will move you into Open.
What I am trying to do is to do away with having 2 guys shooing Tactical, 4 guys shooting Heavy Metal, 3 guys shooting pump and so on....
I thoight that by goin to 5+1 it would allow more people to shoot against one another and limit the 2 to 3 person catagory. If I get 10 shooters that want to shoot a catagory I will include it, how's that

Sammy - make this simple by using the SMM3G rules. No love for USPSA from me.
Tactical and Pump have the same mag limitations, 9 at start and anything goes after buzzer.

What about the guys that don't play 3gun? What about the IDPA guys?
What about the guys that have a Rem 870 set up for home defense?

Just from what I've experienced being in a few shotgun classes...
A lot of pump guys have extended tubes, 7+1 or 8+1. The Mossberg 590A1 comes from the factory with 8+1.
Most of these dudes don't have enough caddies to finish a 30-round stage. They'll need to gear up for this match.
The manual of arms that's taught is to load 1 and shoot 1. Mag capacity won't impact this at all IMO.

Good stuff Superset, thanks for the input. I'm leaning toward changeing the capacity to 8+1 to start then load to capacity after the buzzer. I would still like to hear more input though.

This is probably a dumb question, but does a Knoxx stock bump my 5+1 Mossy 500 into Open?

If you declare a stage start at 5+1 for all divisions, then it doesn't matter what they load to after the shot timer beeps, but it probably would make the IDPA/home defense guys feel like they are on equal footing for the first 6 rounds. Otherwise they might say "Well why bother? I will get creamed by the Open guys" So in my experience this is kinda of like declaring a revolver neutral stage start at 6 rounds, and it gives the Open guys the opportunity to practice quick reloads, while at the same time allowing IDPA/home defense guys to feel like they have a good experience to start in the game.

No. Only if you have a box fed magazine, optic or compensator on your Mossy. Come on out! Make sure you have enough shotshell caddies to finish a 30 round stage.

In Tactical and Limited, USPSA allows 9 rounds at the start and then after the beep load to capacity (whatever you want). Was changed one-three months ago. Nationals competitors were notified by Strader via email.

I need like 2-4 more shotgun caddies for a 30 round stage. This could get quite expensive.

Well, after some thought I think we are going to go with the 8+1 to start except for Open of course, then load to capacity. I was not aware that USPSA had changed the rule on capacity. That being said if I get enough shooters that have the 5+1 set-up I will set up a seperate catagory just for them. I will change the flyer before this weekends Pistol match.
