Question Thoughts and/or opinions on CZ 712 Target?

Contemplating this for trap/5-stand... just not sure what type of choke to go for if I do get this. Thanks in advance!

Looked at one this week. Things I did not like was the finish, which looked like parkerized. The trigger felt a little heavy as well.

While it is not the same gun exactly...
I have a CZ 712 Utility and it rapidly becoming a favorite. It is lightweight, fast and points well.
The CZ 712 is a worthwhile shotgun

Thanks, but I'm all good in those areas. Just need to know if this shotgun is as good as advertised.

I am thinking about the standard 712 as I was thinking about using it for sporting clays and skeet, thinking that the 28" might be better than the 30" Target for that, and then try it for trap or continue to use my 30" Wingmaster Trap for that. It is also about $150 less.

What do you think of the finish on the 712? It reminds me of what was on my RIA 1911 Tactical. That is one of my biggest turnoffs of this gun.

I really like the video on the CZ site for the 712. Reminds me of videos of people shooting ground squirrels.

Ended up buying the 712 Target today. Not in love with the finish, but think that is better for me since I mainly shoot trap. I will update when I get a chance to shoot it.

Congrats! I didn't realize the finish was the parkerized type... but it's fine as long as it shoots well without any problems.

Please let me know, thanks!

I think they call the finish on the receiver a black chrome. Looks like they went for a matte finish rather than a glossy like they do on the 912.

I think my next gun is going to be a Beretta XCEL 32" Parallel before the 2014 fun happens. I've got a list for this year, but we'll see how it goes.

Yeah I've been working on my list a while. CT ruined my chances of buying a sig 556. I'm down to my last three. If I can save more though 912is up there. Sucks I have to move to buy anything after this year.

Well, I got the 712 target In today from buds and it was pretty bad. There were two cracks, one on each side of the grip from the receiver back, and the wood just looked and felt cheap cheap cheap. I am going to get a refund and go with a remington 1100 competition, or beretta a400 parallel target and buck up and drop the extra coin. Definitely disappointed in their shotguns.

Sucks to hear. Picked up my 712 utility today, great looking shotgun. Good feel, recoil pad is a bit thin. Will be cleaning up the action and possibly opening up the feed area a bit.

Dang, how many rounds does that utility hold now, 9? What are you going to use it for, HD?

I still have not shot mine yet. Life has gotten in the way and I have not shot anything for over a month. Hopefully soon.

Its a utilitarian finish for a truck gun. It doesn't bother me in the least.
Do a mag dump with yours and see how easy it is to control
THAT is what I like most about the CZ

Hell, I didn't think the finish was half bad on mine. Just as good as my mossberg, but I know that ain't setting the bar very high.

Finally got to shoot my 712 Target on Saturday. Shot it pretty well for the first time, was comfortable, and had no mechanical issues. I did lose the mid bead sight, which I have contacted CZ and they are mailing me a new one, which I will lock tite. Funny, this is similar to my experience with my SP01. I was shooting it not long after getting it and noticed that the front sight was missing. I was able to find it, but had lost the roll pin that held it in place. CZ sent me a new one.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase, and am considering picking up one of their o/u's.

zfields, have you shot yours yet?

My CZ712 gets out of jail this Friday. I have already got to shoot it, because I had mine transferred to a range, where they let you shoot it during the 10 days. Sent some wax slugs down range and had some good results.

Kicks a lot less than my Maverick 88. I didn't get a chance to clean it yet, so I did get a few FTF's, but I am sure that will be remedied when I can take it home this Friday for a proper cleaning.

The target model with the raised and angled trap rib interests me. i have a 2005 vintage 712 from when they first started importing them. I paid $339 for it. The black chrome matte exterior finish and chrome lined barrel and reciever are still like new years later.

The front stock is thin and I have had to be careful with that. It has always been pretty reliable on any kind of loads with a decent powder charge. My only real complaint is the stock doesn't fit my cheek as well as a browning or Remington. At one time I was considering shims to angle it down some. The IM choke is absolutely perfect on my 28" bbl.

I was using the modified choke with the 30" barrel. Should I try the IM?
