Default I ran out of SPP thinking about SMP for a 38spl

Has anyone tried using small pistol magnum primers with a 38spl? I usually just follow the loading manual which calls for spp, but with the shortage of spp the game has changed. Just want to check if anyone has loaded with these.

Yes, used Small Rifle too. No problem for a medium load.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

If you use smpp start at the low end of the load data once again. Magnum primers are hotter than the regular primers.

Yes, but not with anything near the high end of the load. Pressure is a bit higher.

There is a difference in pressure created by magnum primers, but it is pretty small.

When I was loading nuclear 10mm, the difference when I started getting head expansion beyond acceptable limits, smilies, blown primers, etc. was one or two tenths of a grain powder difference with the mag primers, so the added pressure of magnum primers is not a great deal.

How much powder you put in the case is far more important, especially when you are loading faster powders.

I would use the lower load data for the reasons mentioned above

I have used CCI #41's, and SRP in 9mm, and even SPP in my AR loads with very good results. I don't usually do this, but I loaded a batch of each, and noticed no overpressure signs, but "as I recall" #41's seem to give about +50-75FPS with a 9mm and 5.2gr of Unique with 115gr plated.
