Yes, we are closed. Now the question is do we want to jump on doing the clean up asap or should we wait for the heat to die down so we can pull a bigger group of volunteers? I was told by one of our team that we will not get a good turnout if we try to do the clean up while it is hot, from now until the end of Indian Summer. From what I saw the last time I was up there a few weeks ago, our clean up will go fairly quickly, there is not a LOT of garbage up there in comparison to last year, probably due to the fact that this past season, we were closed a good portion of it.

What say all of you about the clean up? Do you think we should proceed or wait?

I think it is better to jump on it now so in the coming months all that drive by will not see a mess there.

I vote early, and for the past week (since the part weekend anyway) it hasn't been too hot so maybe that will stay that way for a while.

Good to see you guys are up for it. I will speak with our other team members to see what we can put together. Based upon what I see up there, we don't need a huge contingent to get the place cleaned up, perhaps 20-30 people and I bet we won't even fill up one dumpster.

Correct, the NF is closed for Fire Season. Will not reopen again until we get a sizable amount of rain over a period of weeks or months, reducing the combustible material percentage.

The forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday this week calls for 3-5 inches of rain in the mountains. Perhaps, maybe we are on our way to having enough moisture in the area to open back up? Fingers crossed, it has been a long 7 months since we were open for shooting.

I have some specific guns that I have not even shot yet, have just been waiting to try them out at the GF. I did cave though and shot my Enfield No 5 MK I up at my in laws ranch, that thing is sweet but I am looking forward to ringing some of my steel up at the prettiest range I shoot at.

Fingers are crossed, I didnt shoot at all last season. After all the clean ups the previous season and fighting the fight I was burnt out. I have been getting a bit twitchy.

I think I only made it up there twice last season since we were open, then closed, then opened, then closed. Once I took my father in law and son, good time but it was so foggy that we could barely see our targets most of the day. Of course, I had painted my gongs white so that didn't work out very well, left the orange spray paint at home.

Second time, I went out with my son, we had a great day, he shot the M44 all day and I hit my 8" gong several times with my S&W 625 at 125 yards, way up on the hill. With .45 ACP, it was more like lobbing a football than shooting a gun, I swear I had an 8' high holdover but I hit it five times.

Sorry Deadbolt, not yet. SoCalMountainman is waiting to hear from his Forest Service contact after Monday but personally I think we need at least two or three more strong storms before they will open us. One more incoming hopefully next week.

Hi guys,
Are you planning a cleanup also or just banging away with the thundersticks?

I was just up there this morning. Still very brown but a few little patches of green forming in the hills. Probably will take another rain, although all the local fire danger signs are down to "low".

How much trash did you see on the ground UMD? I was shooting there just a week before we were closed in May and it honestly wasn't bad. There was a lot trash that was blown around but that's easy to pickup. When I last shot there, I didn't think there was enough garbage and big heavy stuff to justify a cleanup yet. You have to realize, to do a proper cleanup, we have to beg Marborg to send us enough dumpsters, we have to gather giveaways, food, coordinate schedules, etc. Unless the range is a real mess, I would vote for just a few of us going up with our pickups and removing the bigger stuff ourselves, then wait until we are closer to the end of our season and do a proper big cleanup.

As we all know, the lowlifes and Troglodytes will leave plenty of garbage and pollution up there beginning the day we re-open. I would much rather make it to April or May and leave the place spotless a few days before the Forest Service closes us? Just my opinion though, the other team members should weigh in too. The hard part is the weather honestly. You recall, we opened in November last year, were open a month or a month and half, then we were shut down, then we-reopened when we had more rain, then we were shut down a few weeks later when everything got really dry, really quickly. If and when we do re-open (hopefully soon), it is hard to predict if we will stay open until Spring or be shut down, then re-open, depending on rain or if we just might be open mid December through January and that's it. Only the weather Gods know for sure.

Yeah there wasn't a lot of big stuff, but I don't actually go down to the range; it's just what I can see from the road. I'm up there pretty much every week or so and for a while I swear there was new trash showing up. Like people were still shooting despite it being closed.

they'll just take the signs and shoot em. someone was nice enough to put out range markers, the 2nd time I went up, they were all completely full of holes. someone even shot the "firearms safety" signs that were right next to the firing line. so rude.

Yes, for those of you new to GF, there are subhumans who like to drag up furniture, cases of empty glass beer bottles, shoot it all, blow up the remains with Tannerite, then just leave it all. A lot of dumb people frequent the GF, that's why we removed 68 tons of garbage from there in 2012. And yes, these are the idiots that shot up all of the wooden picnic benches we used to have up there. These lowlifes are the same ones that will shoot up any signs left there.

I think people shoot there anyway. There was more trash than over the weekend. Looks like a broken target stand and some furniture. But the gate is still closed and signs up.

Any word on the Glass Factory opening?

I checked the GF Facebook page and the Forrest Service site, nothing.

I live in the hills. We got 3.25 inches from this last storm. The Glass Factory may have gotten 4 inches?? That should definitely be enough to end fire concerns and open the range.

On another note... I think the forrest service should do a control burn up there next season so the range can stay open longer... or even year round. What say you?

GOLETA, CA – Rain across Los Padres National Forest has provided sufficient moisture levels to transition out of High Fire Season and reduce fire restrictions on the forest effective immediately.

Under the reduced fire restrictions, campfires and charcoal barbeques will be allowed in all areas of Los Padres National Forest. A California Campfire Permit is required to build a campfire outside of a designated Campfire Use Site. California Campfire Permits are available for free download from the Los Padres National Forest website (http://www.fs.usda.gov/lpnf). A list of Campfire Use Sites is available at all Los Padres National Forest offices.

Visitors who construct wood or charcoal fires outside of designated Campfire Use Sites also must clear all flammable material for a minimum of five feet in all directions; have a shovel available for preparing and extinguishing the fire; have a responsible person in attendance at all times; and extinguish the fire with water, using the “drown, stir and feel” method.

Prohibitions on smoking and target shooting in Los Padres National Forest are also being lifted.

“As we move into low fire season and reduce fire restrictions, it’s important to remember that fire can happen at any time of the year,” said Los Padres National Forest Fire Chief Carrie Landon. “I strongly encourage all visitors to exercise caution while they are enjoying the forest.”

The following fire restrictions will remain in effect:

Spark arresters are required on all off-highway vehicles, chainsaws, and other internal combustion engines and equipment;

A permit is required for all welding, grinding, cutting, or use of explosives;

Tracer ammunition is prohibited at all times;

Fireworks are prohibited in Los Padres National Forest at all times and in all places.

Visitors are encouraged to call the local Ranger Station for more information on conditions and restrictions.

weather permitting I'll most likely be up there next week. I got some things that need to be "broken in" or at least make sure they work lol.

I know this coming week is suppose to be raining, but hopefully it lifts for the following week. I just can imagine how busy it will be up there for a while being so long since it's been open.

I stopped going to the GF after seeing some redneck idiots firing their revolvers the opposite direction (180*) from the firing line into a bank.
