Default CA State Senator Michael Rubio resigns

Just came across the wire:

http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalert...h-chevron.html

He is taking a position with Chevron in order to spend more time with his family. He currently represents the Bakersfield area. The resignation is effective today.

As there are other positions vacant in the State Senate, the Democrats have lost their supermajority for now. A special election will need to be held to replace him.

Heh... So it's about his family, not about the fact he'll be making 1000% more pay? At least the super majority loss couldn't come at a better time. We all know Brown is going to veto some of this stuff and now they no longer hold the trump card.

He dropped out of a Congressional run after his youngest daughter was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. If it were me, I'd be looking to do whatever I needed to give her all the support (emotional, presence, fiscal, whatever) that I could muster.

Rubio is a moderate and was spearheading CEQA reform against the wishes of the environmentalists and labor federation.

I'm in Jean Fuller's district. I didn't pay attention to Rubio, but I suspect he might have been a possible pro-2nd Amendment supporter. Most of these Central Valley Democrats need to be careful about their gun votes. They aren't as safe as they might seem and might buck the party to keep their job.

I haven't researched it, but I don't think the Super Majority is as strong as it may seem outside of the populated areas.

In the Senate 26 Democrats, 11 Republicans, 3 Vacancies, as of today.

Plus aren't there going to be more seats vacated as well? And without a super majority the budget battle will drag on into the fall and NOTHING will get done hahahahaha for once I'm glad to see a return to a disfunctional budget process!

Default California Senate - Democratic Lawmaker Resigns, Party Loses Supermajority

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ State Sen. Michael Rubio resigned unexpectedly Friday, a move that drops Democrats below the two-thirds threshold they need to pass tax changes or override vetoes...

Temporary good news for the 2nd Amendment in CA?

OK, I have a question, how do you change your position on the overhauling the environmental laws to working for an oil company. Their belief system is based only on money. Every one of those folks are for sale, we know that, known it for years. How much would it take to have Dian frankenstein change her mind on gun control. All of them are prostitutes, every one of them.

Rubio of Bakersfield area...the largest oil producing area of California and he goes to work for big oil.

Would love to know what he did for them to receive that job...actually maybe I don't, I'm pissed off enough already about politics.

He's a pro-business/ag moderate democrat. His district is rather conservative.

Not to mention, in the press release, he has a 1y/o special needs child and wants a job that doesn't require him to be in Sacramento 4 days a week.

Rubio is one of the good guys and was looking to overhaul CEQA to make California more business friendly, he wasn't doing it for the labor fed and environs who opposed his effort before any bill was introduced.

Didn't find any Chevron donations but I didn't look very deep into the history: http://cal-access.sos.ca.gov/Campaig...&view=received

A Honorable (?) Democratic Representative who is the chair of environmental quality committee and was pushing to stricter environmental laws will not work for One of the biggest oil corp. Money talks louder especially in the legislative branch

Guys!!! He wasn't pushing stricter environmental laws. He was reforming CEQA for business. It was a business effort backing him. It was not going to make CEQA more difficult.

Just saw this!
California Democrats Lose Veto-Proof Edge in Senate as One Quits

Is there any chance they will not replace him with another Dem?

Too bad he didn't bow out during the election......
