Sunday in Concord at United Sportsmen's 200yd Multi-Purpose Range is Diablo Rod & Gun Club's monthly Benchrest Match.
Sign-in at 1pm, shooting immediately after. This is a "Score" match, not a Smallest Group contest, so any accurate gun is welcome. This is a Bench match (no Prone) with shots fired from a rest or bipod or shooting bag atop the bench. Need sandbags? bring them. Scoped Centerfire shooters compete at 200yds, while Iron-sighted Centerfire do at 100yds. Scoped Rimfire shooters shoot at 100yds and Iron-sighted Rimfire at 50yds. Awards are given for 1st place in each category. The Rimfire match takes place first, then the Centerfire match. Bring two rifles and shoot both. Shooters have 30 minutes to fire FOUR 5-shot groups and can fire an unlimited number of Sighters shots during the firing period. Bring enough rounds for 20 Record Shots and enough Sighters; around 30 to 50 total. IMPORTANT! If your riflescope cannot make out your bullet holes on targets, bring a spotting scope that can. Cost is $5 per rifle ($10 if you shoot both Rimfire and Centerfire relays) This is a low-key non-registered match. Shooting is supposed to be fun - so that's the goal. Scores & awards will be announced in the Clubhouse immediately following the match, which should finish by 2:30 - 3:00. You do not need be a Diablo Gun Club member to participate! However non-members must present a Purple USI Safety Card which is obtained at the Public Range Office after you have been given a ten minute briefing. Arrive around 12:30 and go to the Public Range Office to give yourself time before the match sign-in at 1pm. The USI Multi-Purpose Range is beyond the Public range up the road at the top of the drive on the right side. Be there by 1pm sharp. Spectators are welcome, must bring eye and ear protection. Leave a post if you think you can make it or if you have a question. |

We had a nice turnout with 18 shooters and a few spectators.
Wind was pretty steady at 4-5mph but gusts went to 16! Not an easy day. Congrats to Denis Early who took home a double win! He took 1st in Iron Sighted Centerfire shooting a 1903 Springfield and 1st in Iron Sighted Rimfire shooting a CMP H&R 12 in .22LR. Denis is proving to be the man to beat with Irons. Kudos to 1st timer Lawrence Beasley for 1st place in Scoped Centerfire shooting a 30BR and to Milan Chytil for taking 1st place in Scoped Rimfire with his 17HMR. There was some serious iron on the line for the Rimfire relay. As attendance keeps rising, we'll soon have to run separate relays for Irons and Scopes. When the weather warms up we'll start doing a post-match BBQ if there's some interest. Thanks to everyone who came out today, winners will be getting their pins as soon as I get them from the award-maker. Next match is Sunday, March 24th at 1PM. |

Thanks for putting on a fun, casual match today. It was my first time out there and I had a great time. Although it was only 200 yards, the wind made it a challenge for me. Very fun and educational. See you next month.
