Default Teacher in San Diego arrested for having a .380 on campus

A teacher was arrested Monday fro having a .380 on school campus. He has had it for protection. Interesting article. Some of the kids didnt mind it and said it made them feel safe, but some of the parents are pi$$ed.

A perfectly normal, good, law abiding citizen carrying a gun to class for the protection of his students should, God forbid, a criminal try to hurt them.
Yet, the parents are demonizing the teacher as if he spawned straight from hell.
At least the kids seem to be 2nd amendment supporters, which will help this country in the future.

If a damn teacher wants to conceal carry to school, why not let the dammit? Not to mention that is hell of a lot better for two reasons.
1. It's free
2. If an insane person tries to shoot a classroom, instead of a fat-@$$ cop/guard running to the scene of the shooting after it happens, an armed teacher will be right there!

Wow. How sad it is when the kids understand true security better then their hoplophobic parents.

While my state recently passed a law supporting teachers right to carry in the school, I've little doubt teachers here were carrying long before it was legal. I'm nearly certain he's not the only CA teacher carrying despite the law.

If I was on a jury I would not convict the guy. All gun owners need to pledge to nullofy all unconstitutional prosecutions.

Parents where pissed that they where not informed earlier and there where not enough details? The teacher had a gun, nothing happened, move on.

Default Pistol Packing Teacher

I do not blame the teacher for packing iropn at a school. Unfortunately we are dealing with idiots in our school systems that do not understand gun control is putting rounds on target.
Under similar conditions, with permission, I would "pack iron" to defend my students and classroom. "Gun Free School Zones" are a target rich environment for those who wish to attack students teachers and other staff at our schools. They know no one can shoot back.

I would. He has a screw loose.

I have a CCW and I am in Public Transportation and totally forbidden from having it with me ever on the job or I will be terminated instantly. I know it, you know it, and the teacher SHOULD have known it.

Teacher failed the Big IQ test.

Concealed means concealed.

And he should STFU about such stuff.

I bet it'd be ok if it were in David Gregory's possesion on school property. He might even be considered a hero for his courage to support gun control by violating the law.

Why would you show your weapon to the students?

You must live in a very urban or suburban environment. Around these parts, pretty much everybody's got guns.

The schools in California CAN NOT protect their teachers nor the students. It's utterly ridiculous. My wife is a High School teacher in a city close to where we live but that area has become a cesspool of illegal immigrant culture. It scares me to death that she can not do anything to protect herself. The school gets put on lockdown very frequently for crimes that occur in the general area of the school. She always texts me looking for information while she has a classroom full of kids, doors locked, and absolutely NO IDEA of what is going on outside as they are always kept in the dark by Admin during these events.

We're in the process of developing some sort of tactical plan that she may be able to implement within the confines of her room during these potential threats. We've discussed the Carry Issue which, without doubt, would be shunned by officials but we feel better judged by 12 than carried by six. I have also considered getting one of the ***-kicking stun guns that she can keep in her purse. It's a very frustrating problem knowing that right now, she has no legal means for protection and is a "sitting duck" inside what amounts to a "fishbowl" of a classroom.

He did not show the students his weapon.

This is my child's teacher and he taught my eldest too previously. This guy is a hero. He screwed up saying too much, but, did not say "I carry a gun..or I have one here..".

For f*cks sake, this guy was ready to defend my child with this life. Waiting for 911 to respond to an active shooter has cost how many childrens lives? Colombine, Sandy Hook, he decided my child would not be counted among them if they were attacked. I am literally torn apart that my favorite teacher is in this situation.

i wonder if everyone would be calling him a idiot if someone came on campus shooting up the school, and he shot the perp before anyone was harmed.hmmm

im not for arming teachers nor openly carrying in schools, but can you blame the guy for trying to do something other than the typical ban guns, and high cap mags philosophy.

If i was going to carry a gun this way i would never tell anyone, and ya the teachers union is powerful and super corrupt they oppose all forms of testing for their teachers which means they don't care if they are good at teaching.

Ohh and they managed to shoot down a bill that would make it easier to fire pedophile teachers.

Default Hope CGF for NRA will step up to aid his defense

A teacher willing to defend his students with his life would make a very sympathetic defendant and would be a good choice to challenge the Gun Free School Zone Act and the right to bear outside the home. It's a lot better than the typical drug dealer who tries to appeal a conviction.

My understanding is that it went something like this:
* student leaked the "open secret" to an anti-gun parent post-Newtown
* anti-gun parent freaked out and contacted school
* school contacted police
* students at school interviewed
* probable cause for search reliant on interviews

Also, as a school system employee I'm pretty sure he had no choice about consenting to search of his car in the school parking lot. Only the search of his person relied on probable cause.

Argh, he should have just stfu. It sounds like he carried for more of a "cool factor", specifically because he told his students. Idiotic.

However, it is terribly sad when you hear a student say this: “He just said it was for protection for us. We didn't really think he'd doing anything with it, he's a good teacher."

On one hand, gotta feel for the guy, on the other, stupid move to tell everyone about it. As recent history shows, a teacher will put himself/herself in the way of a bullet, but better to put the bullet in the nutbag attacking kids. If only he had contacted Calguns and worked with the administration and union to allow a legal CCW, just like pilots have done since 9/11 with the federal flight deck officers program. Just a damn shame.
