Default 80% completed at Arms Specialty and Tool today - PERFECT!!!

They run the business in Orange off of the 57 and Katella. Really fantastic experience: they hand hold you and show you exactly what to do, then leave it in your hands to DO IT. The machine is precise, and unlike other set ups, all holes are finished by the CNC. There is no need to drill trigger holes after the milling which can be imprecise. $75.

Contact SA&T Group Builds via PM to set up an appointment.

They also offers anodizing and engraving for an extra fee.

Once we can start getting 80% lowers back at a decent price, I'm al over this. Wish I would have figured out the process before the whole panic.

This is the ONLY way to go for me moving forward.

Are you set up for 1911 80% builds? KTO 80% 1911 for example?

For now we are only set up for AR-15 80% lowers, but we can do any make ex. QD, TM, we have had no issues with any yet.

Next on our list is AR-10 80% lowers, the we are going to work on the 1911.

Thank you.

How is the precision or quality of the CNC engraver? Smallest font size I should go if I wanted to add something like 223/556 or fire selector icons on the receiver and do I just need to bring a vector file (in Adobe Illustrator with all fonts converted to outlines)?

Laser would be desirable, but I'm wondering what I could get away with on a CNC, so any posted guidelines are appreciated. If you have a link to guidelines on an existing website, please post link.

I completed my 80% at Arms Specialty and Tool on Thursday afternoon.
Gabe and Brent are GTG!
I was able to complete my 80% in approximately 20 mins.
The piece came out great!
Highly recommended

I finished my receiver here yesterday and was very pleased with the finished product.

Good guys, also very knowledgeable and they have a place that does anodizing next door which is convenient.

Are you guys using these?

http://aresarmor.com/store/Item/TACMHRW1

Why not get their anodized one for a couple bucks more have save the hassle? What combinations are you guys running on these that work well? Uppers, lpk, etc...

I'm looking to order some ASAP and go get at least 2 done.

If you buy an anodized receiver, the milling process will expose the soft aluminum underneath.

Type III anodizing forms a hard coating on the metal.

Keep up the good work!

There is a couple, you just have to search. I want to do this also. Finding the paper weights is the problem.

I had my lower done with Gabe about a month ago. Everything came out flawless and the whole experience was easy and comfortable. Took about 15 minutes to complete my lower.

Now just waiting for Gabe to start doing 1911 frames and I will be all over it

I would (and already have) highly recommend his shop.

Default Awesome work

I went to see Gabe and Brent yesterday and had a great time. Both guys are top notch stand up guys and great to talk with. The build went smooth, with the exception of some issues with the lower that Gabe helped me with. I highly recommend them if you need a CNC machine and some one on one training with how to use it.

I finished both of my lowers today, one as a pistol until I get back to VA and my SBRs. I will post in a different thread, but Rohg lowers seem to have some serious QC issues. I'm having several significant issues that are could have been prevented with some simple checks. I'm working through them, but its adding a lot of work. Lesson learned for all: Install the safety and magazine release and function check both before you leave Gabe's place or have your lower finished.

Below is a pic of the issue with the mag catch. Also, the safety is giving me all sorts of grief. Check the alignment of the whole for the dent spring. I don't have any calipers to measure mine with.

Got two 80% Type III anodized and CNC'd today. Brent and Gabe are really nice guys that are a pleasure to work with.

As a suggestion, maybe see if you can work out a price with the anodizer for prep and bead blasting. The ano job was fine, but I am now thinking I would have liked the matte bead blasted type finish. Will be back when if I get more 80%.

Can I ask you about your anodizing? I have 2 80% that came anodized. I wasn't happy with the original anodizing which to shiny and blotchy so I took it to a good shop and asked my mil spec type 3 in a matte black but both lowers still came out with kind of a blotchy finish. It just does not look clean like you get when buy a stripped lower from a manufacturer. Is this because the 80% lowers that I got are just low quality forgings? They were 7075 sped'd. Is there some other beed blasting prep that should be done before the anodizing? Just not happy with the finish and am considering cerakote now.

Sorry to go off topic a bit but just wondering if your anodize job came out clean and looking factory fresh and built as opposed to blotchy and blemished?

Was at AS&T this week. Great operation and Gabe and Brent were very helpful. I can't say enough about Gabe and his willingness to get everything just right. Engraving and Anodizing were spot-on. Exactly what I wanted.
