Interesting, I placed an order for the Simmons spotting scope that's on sale at 1030 today and of course checked Cabela's for rimfire ammo. Only thing listed at that time was 22mag birdshot!

I'm not sure sure how their inventory system works, but it doesn't always update the main Rimfire page when they have something in stock.

Whenever I see a link to a Cabela's page for a deal (which is usually OOS) I just configure my PageMonitor browser add-on to watch the page. Whenever it changes, it'll pop up in my Chrome window.

You gets lots of false positives but every now and then it pays off.

Here's the direct link, but it's doing the thing that says it's in stock until you add it to your cart, then it's OOS.

mrrabbit, what is this hunch you speak of?

It would be great if their website layout was more easily viewed, and not grid-like.

If the hunch you are talking about is that serveral product are reporting coming soon, might want to look closer. When I clicked on one of the products that stated "coming soon" it then provided a date of arrival of 12/31/2013.

They cleared a bunch of stale listings...so that all that was left was "coming soon". Usually when someone cleans stale listings on a cart based website - they're cleaning up and making room for a cleaner and less cluttered presentation of incoming stock.

Let's hope I'm correct in the case of MidWay...

Yeah, you want to be checked out before it shows up on gunbot and their servers crash.

I suspect I grabbed the last 10 - cause now they're OOS.

Is there another online source for finding ammo? Gunbot lags or crashes and ammoseek's layout is cumbersome.

Any better resource?

Do not rely on GunBot:

It typically lags as little as 1 minute - as much as 19 minutes. In other words - by the time you get to the source - GONE!

Ammoseek works okay but you have to keep refreshing yourself...

...now here's the cold hard logic:

If you are going to refresh anyway, may as well do as I do and keep 13-14 windows open to different vendors and refresh yourself every 5 minutes.

That's what I do...

http://www.sgammo.com
http://www.midwayusa.com
http://www.aimsurplus.com

Aimsurplus webserver appears to have "stale cart" management so tight - literally less than a minute - it allows those behind you to cut in line and grab your items....)

http://www.jgsales.com
http://www.kygunco.com
http://www.killoughshootingsports.com
http://www.targetsportsusa.com
http://www.ammunitiontogo.com
http://www.laxammo.com
http://www.palmettostatearmory.com

With Palmetto, you can't think about it, waffle, second guess, etc. The moment something pops up - cart, checkout - submit. No hesitation. Otherwise, the website will slow to a crawl as a few dozen visitors catch up with you.

http://www.champchoice.com

The same as Palmetto...find...jump...buy immediately - else the crowd shows up and website literally goes to molasses.

Ignore the following:

http://www.rrarms.com
http://www.natchezss.com
http://www.cabelas.com
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com
http://www.basspro.com

RR Arms - too pricey. Natchez - one box limit makes shipping too expensive. Same for Cabelas. Cheaperthandirt - overpriced. BassPro simply can't get stuff in stock beyond the inventory for brick and motar stores.

Monday and Tuesdays - starting about 5:00AM PST and ending about 2:00PM PST seem to be the best windows for ammo...Palmetto is almost predictable in that regards.

Open up all the windows to each - refresh religiously every five minutes - especially Monday's and Tuesday's - you'll get something. Trust me...

Finding cheap, available .22 is nearly a science.

I don't have a computer/internet at home, which leaves my internetting/ammo-finding to the hours that I'm at work....and I don't have a desk job. I've missed MANY good deals because of this.

There's gentleman here who buys in bulk and then sells out 500 round bricks.

Do a search - PM him.

It'll be about 10.00 more than what you usually pay - but at least you'll have something.

Oh, and a lot of us who are posting deals regularly run some kind of a script or program that hits key pages every minute or so. I just check a couple of pages - usually it's whoever's had some decent deals lately. If a given company gets overpriced I just remove it from the list. I should probably remove sgammo's .22 page but I'm using them just to keep an eye on the market as much as anything.

There's actually a ton of .22 that goes up for sale. It just goes really fast. I've only been buying it if there's a really exceptional deal. I've been selling some ammo but not flipping - it's more that if I can score a bunch of some ammo that's less popular but runs great in one of my guns I'll sell the same # of rounds of my CCI Mini Mag stash since it's going for absurd prices on gunbroker - 21-22 cents/round.

Yeah, if I post something usually it's because I don't need it which means I'm free to post it first. If I order something usually somebody else has posted it already.

Yep...SGAmmo is kinda pushing it. This is Aguila Hyper - so I don't mind for 500 round sample...

...but lately for me it's been ChampChoice, MidWayUSA, Killough and Palmetto - at least they're trying to keep it down price wise for - Federal, Aguila, Eley, Remington...

My jaw drops everytime I see 100 ct CCI Mini-Mags going for 16.99, 19.99, 21.99 - I'm just shaking my head everytime knowing that what I have from December only cost me 8.42.

It's just plain crazy...

Here's a tip for everyone:

While prices are skyrocketing for the normal bulk cheap stuff - that's not the case for match grade ammo. Be real patient and you'll be buying Wolf, Lapua, SK Jagd and Aguila match ammo for less than the skyrocketing bulk stuff.

It's demand that's driving the cheap stuff up...

That Centurion ammo is made by Aguila. Normally Aguila makes some pretty reliable accurate ammo, but on this Centurion, I've heard mixed opinions about the quality/reliability. Too expensive, I'd pass.

Still "in stock" after 12 minutes?!

Can we be seeing a decline in panic buying? Most rounds at .20 or lower sell out pretty quick, and this still available at .13.

EDIT:
rimfired, .08 to .10 is my limit. I definitely bugs the crap out of me that I missed the $99 2100+ammo can deal, as that was at about .06/ppr.

It just means a decline in crazy people who are willing to pay that price. Still lots of panic buying I think. Yeah that Cabelas 2100 rnd deal was awesome.
