Default I bought 5 McCormick PowerMag+ 10 rounders...

and they all came with under-powered springs. None would feed the 10th round reliably. Stretch the spring out, and they all worked fine.

Looks like a letter to the manufacturer is in order...

I bought 2 McCormic's because friends insisted I had to try them. Junk. Trashed them and bought more Wilson Combats. Best 1911 mags I have ever used. All my Wilsons have run flawlessly and the springs are still strong thousands of rounds later.

Me either. When I put a mag in my gun and the spot welds broke on the baseplate and dumped .45 all over my kitchen floor I decided no more McCormic junk.

Wilson Combat all the way. Although my CM power 10 mags have not failed me so far.

I think you can buy Tripp 9rd conversion kits for them which will probably make them perform better.

I only use Checkmate mags now.

I've had both the CMC Power 10rd mags, and the Power + 10rd mags.

The Power + mags had to take some "breaking in" before I could trust them. I had to mark mine to know which one was 'good' and which one gave me problems.

The Power mag were all perfect and never had any issues with them. No wonder why they still sell for a few bucks more than the newer Power + mags.

I've had the opposite experience of others here. I've had nothing but problems with Wilson mags. My McCormick mags have been flawless.

I don't use 10rd mags often but for 8rd I personally prefer McCormick over Wilson and I do own lots of both. You may just have gotten some from a bad batch so if you bought the mags new just call them up and they'll stand behind them.

Me too. My 10-rd Chip McCormick magazines work fine and don't have the problem the OP experienced. I have a RIA 1911, what type of gun is the OP shooting? Maybe it's a gun issue and not a magazine issue.

Ten 10 Round McCormick Power Mags have worked flawlessly. And they are not even used in my Glocks. Go Figure!

My experience with 1911 mags is that each gun is unique. Some 1911's like Wilson 47Ds, some like Chip Power Mags, some like Checkmate, and many like Tripp. The best advice that anyone ever gave me is to buy 1 magazine and see if my 1911 likes it. Once you find a brand/type that works, then buy more.

For the ones that you have already bought, Tripp Research makes excellent upgrade kits that fix the majority of 1911 mag issues. I did the same thing (bought a bunch of Springfield mags with the Loaded coupon) and the Tripp kits made the magazines completely reliable in my gun.

I too have been using the Chip Power Mag+'s, 10 rounders in my Springer TRP , and have had zero problems with them. I might try Tripp's someday since I read read a lot of good reviews on them but for now, CM's are good.

Maybe whoever assembled that lot of mags At the factory used the wrong spring. Call the CS # and tell them your problem.

Since someone asked, I'm shooting a stock Springfield, cleaned and oiled. (I forget the model number).

Shoots great with the stock mags, and with the CMC's after stretching the springs.

I've contacted customer service, I'll see what they say.

My 10 rounders FTF every other round. Something hits the slide catch and holds the slide back. Happens with all three C McC mag. This is in a Sig 1911.

Customer service has been excellent at CMC. They shipped me 5 new springs right quick.

The difference is telling. New springs on top, old on the bottom.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-r...0/IMG_2202.JPG

tested with some snap-caps, and everything seems ok now.

I've had good luck with CMC mags, not a fan of 47Ds.

My favorites and priced competitively are Guncrafter Industries 8rd mags.

Funny, same thing happened to me. It just barfed out it's guts all over the place, from the top. (ie; the base plate didn't come off, the follower came out the top, as did the spring.

It's the follower design, tilt it too much and .... sproing!

I agree, every 1911 is unique.

I have 2 CMC Power Mags 8RDs, they are working well so far.

Next Purchase will be a pair of: Wilson or Tripp Mags.

So CMC CS is good, quality control...not so much....

I have CMC, Les Baer, Springfield, and Wilson Combat, no failures in either the LB or Springer so far. I too want to try Tripp Research just to see what all the hoopla is all about.

The CS engineer says that the new magazines will "set" at a shorter length then they are when new.

I will see if that happens over time.

I just wanted to update this thread with the solution I found.

Wolff Springs 10 Round Shooting Star springs fit the Powermag+ magazines, and 5/5 now work flawlessly in my pistol through three range trips and a few hundred rounds.

Nice.

I've used 10 round power mags with zero problems, in the past. Other than the awkward protrusion of the extended mag, of course.

Every one of my 7 McCormick mags had spring problems. I replaced the old with Wolff springs and no more problem.

I don't understand the obsession with 10 rounders in 1911's. I go with standard Tripps.

Funny, that exact thing happened to me, I ejected the mag, it hit the floor and barfed it's guts out!

I don't quite trust them yet. But I haven't gone through the effort of trying the gun with just a single trustworthy magazine to figure out if it's the gun or the magazines.

My thought too. My Dan Wesson PM7s and Colt Gold Cup all love the CMC magazines, both 8 and 10 rounders, of which I have several.
