Yes I was going to say don't thank me I did not do all that cleaning.... I just happened to be there today and remembered that you guys had a dumpster coming. Also I guess all the press is really putting that spot on the map because there were a few people there saying it was their first time and they had seen about it in the papers and news.

Great turnout. I got there at 830am, left at around 1130am.

Seems a lot of people had no idea about the Calguns post, but simply read about it in the papers, the online version I assume, and showed up with their families, friends and willingness to contribute.

Of course quite a few people showed up to shoot without knowing about the event and many scowled once they realized the situation, did u-turns, and took off. However, a few people put their best foot forward and joined us. That is good people in my book and I thank them for their time and their positive demeanor.

As stated, the dumpster was filled up by 10am. This was due to a real character of a guy showing up with his dozer! Someone must have pics of him in action, he took care of business. He saved us a lot of work and expedited the removal and reallocation of the trash pile to the dumpster. We could have easily filled up a second dumpster, which I believe is in the works, with his assistance and the turnout, but I don't think anyone predicted the turnout, let alone the bulldozer. More info on the second dumpster soon from Eatdirt and chknlyps2. I will happily donate to it once I find out how to.

The Peak looks good. Still some trash out there, plenty of shotgun hulls, plastic bags, and paper, but the Calguns crew and the volunteers put a real dent in it. Rangers were also there to assist, their presence was greatly appreciated.

Lastly, a big thanks to Eatdirt and chknlyps2 for making this happen, but also to all the people who came out and kicked aas today.

I feel your pain! I just got home, unloaded my stuff and now I've got to get rid of the trash still in my truck bed! But, I'm dead and the ole back just isn't cooperating! Hmmmm lawn mowing may not happen after all... sorry wifee! LOL!

A personal thanks to all those that came out and helped today! It's shooting enthusiasts like you that give us all a good name! A good time was had by all! The PE was also there this morning and I cannot wait to see the good press they give CGN and CGSSA! Good going people!

If we get another dumpster in the next 2 weeks I'll be there to assist loading it! Just holler!

Considering the worker turnout today ,estimates are over 100 folks, the clean up is a success.
This demonstrates a strong willingness of shooting hobbiests to work for what we have and keep what we have. BLM is our land, set asside for recreation.
Thanks to all Calguns for sponsoring. I believe the newspaper reporter that showed up was impressed.
The bigger job awaits, that is teaching the .......other public ......to bring a rake and trash bag as well as their guns and ammo.
Thank you all.

Just spoke with one of the BLM Rangers that was there. He was very impressed by the turnout, and very happy with the results. Hope to make it to the next one!

A special thanks goes to Shayne and his lovely family! He was the man that brought the backhoe!

All I have to say is WOW!... It took you guys 2 hours to fill a dumpster. This shows the local community and BLM that there are still many responsible people out there.

Both my kids did head count around 9:45, there were 27 people down around the dumpster area, 76 or 78 (depending on which one you ask) at the shooting area, 8 around the bbq area and then 6 to 7 trucks that came from the back with 2 to 3 people in each. That puts it around 125 to 130. I asked one of the rangers and he said he had a count of roughly 130 people.

Eat Dirt has the sign up sheet and he is going to count tonight the people that signed up, some that signed up were not members of Calguns and heard about it from the news paper or Facebook.

The huge pile of trash left will have to be taken care of soon, Monday I will be on the phone to try and line up a dumpster for some time in the next couple of weeks. We have a dumpster for a fall clean up from the office of Riverside County Supervisor Kevin Jeffries, I will see if we can get it for mid April.

The donation box took in $115.00, this money will stay for Steele Peak, we may have to do a donation drive for the dumpster and if so this money is the start. Or it will be set aside along with future donations for later.

Here is the pile that was left..... I got dibs on the barbie jeep

I did not sign up nor did my two buddies! So add a few to the count. Be we all will participate in the next one. We would hope after the next one one dumpster would be tough to fill. Now I can't wait to go shooting!

Just a thought... our cleanups are great and it is helping spread the word about CGN.

...But if only we could attack the root of the issue rather than dealing with the consequences! We know we need to educate masses who use Steel Peak. Could we possibly organize CalGunners to have a "CalGuns Citizens Patrol" or maybe a "CalGuns Information Officer(s)"?

Two or three of us with the skill of "gab" could politely roll up to shooters on weekends talk guns with them and educate them on why we need to be responsible shooters, clean up, and take care of one of the last remaining free shooting areas in the greater metropolitan Riverside area? We could hand out CGN literature, etc. Perhaps we could even get CGN/CGSSA to purchase a few magnetic signs made that identified us as such?

After all, trash isn't our only issue with Steele Peak. As Chief Scott Kotlowski stated to the PE; "If the trash and public safety issues reach a critical point, Kotlowski said the BLM could shut down the range."

One of CalGuns fundamentals is educating the masses on all things gun related, so what better way to do so and preserve Steele Peak?

I'd gladly volunteer a Saturday or Sunday a month to do so!

What say you all? Especially those higher ups within the organization?

Well, I was glad to be a part of this and will do the next one too. I was a little disappointed because the dumpster filled so fast. I got there around 0730 and left around 1030 because it was already full. I was prepared to work the entire day, LOL. Are these dumpsters donated to us or is someone paying for them? I know they are expensive to get, but maybe we can get more next time.

This one was donated, in the past 50 people worked 4 or so hours to fill one. We only had 30ish people signed up so with friends I figured 50 to 60. after 4 hours people start getting burned out so the goal was to try to fill the dumpster in 4 hrs. There were around 130 people this time and in less than 2 hours it was full. If we had known the turnout would have been that big we would have tried to get a second dumpster. They are north of $500 so getting it donated is kind of a big deal.

Thanks to all the volunteers that made this happen!

When you brought this up before I called one of the rangers and he or one of the people in the office said this was a no go. I think because it would give the impression that we had some sort of authority. We are just regular people there.

The flyers are not a bad idea, they have been done at a range in Ventura and mrlonewolf was discussing it for here. The only thing I see negative is the knuckle heads will throw them down then the rangers will see papers littered around with Calguns name on them.

Before I think I was asking if we could be involved in some sort of sting and report litterbugs to BLM. I was suggesting a more PC stand this time by simply talking and informing shooters.

I was proud to take part in the clean up today, but it was a little discouraging when at 10am the big trash can was full and the Rangers told us to stop picking up trash.

Next time we can get another trash can out there, I will be more than happy to contribute a few hours of my time

We all were somewhat disappointed that we couldn't take it all out, but if you look at it from a different angle, as mentioned above by chknlyps2, it was because of the amazing turnout, not to mention the backhoe that was not planned for at all. This expedited the entire cleanup. We would have spent at least three hours on the pile left by the previous group alone. Everyone that contributed today hit every part of Steele Peak, that would not have been possible if the turnout was smaller, thus we took in a lot more trash. Hell, there's plenty of trash still out there even with the group from today, but if only 50 people showed up (as planned) and had done it entirely by hand, you're definitely not going to get it all and one container would have been more than enough.
