Today was epic. We had a great turn out and cleaned up almost all of steel peek. GREAT JOB and thank you to Chknlyps (Robbie) and his kids and to Eat Dirt(Ron) for their great organiztion of this clean up. It went really smooth and was a very effective day thanks to you 2 guys.

Also kuddos to "The Real Big Daddy" for the hot dogs and "Lost-trails" for the amazing curry chicken rice. It was delicious. Sorry I forgot your real names. Also thanks to Nikki who help my gf bbq!

To whoever brought the BBQ, THANKS!

All in all it was a successful clean up IMO and I am glad I got to meet some great fellow calgunners! Everyone involved did a great job today and to those who I have forgotten your name, my apologies.

Pics soon, I have about 40 or more

Here are a few pics from today.

We started about 300 yards in where this was quite a bit of trash

Sweeping up debris

Eat Dirt giving the 411

There was people in all directions as far as you can see helping out

Thanks to my girlfriend(Chrissy) on the grill and Nikki for helping out with the food too

Starting to stock pile trash

Yup, that is a TV

Pile of trash everywhere waiting for the trucks to load it up

All the truck lined up near base

get it while it's hot Ron (Eat Dirt)

I wanna say thank you to all who showed up today. It was so awsome to see alot of great people come together and really clean this place up. If we can do this every few months, i think were on the right track to keep this place open along time. Thank you to Robbie (chknlyps2),Ron (Eat Dirt),TacoTodd,Chrissy,Niki,Gordan,Chris,James (Ranger) and everyone else that helped.

Hey we need some of those magical signs posted out there.

Today around 7pmish or so on the way out there was about 7 shotgun shell boxes scattered near the entrance gully. I know we had that place cleaned. I grabbed them but there might have been more that I missed a bit further down. Asshats...

WoW! What a turn out!

I am fairly new to the site, and due to current workload, not on the site often enough.

Having visited the Steele Peak site, and hauled more crap out than I ever brought when I am done, I am happy to see it continues to be taken care of by the Calguns members. I will be watching for the next one, and will be there with the whole family.

Thanks everyone that took the time out to help out with this event! It is efforts like this that will ensure we have access to open area shooting for years to come.

See you all next time!

Wasn't able to make it out to this one like i normally do. Had a few critical projects around the house that i couldnt put off this week.

This is my local shooting spot and i just wanted to throw out a massive THANKS to all the poeple who drove out and gave their time to make this happen. This is probably the best open and free spot that i have ever shot at in southern cal, and i feel really good when i see my fellow shooters working so hard to keep my local spot open. Thanks again guys

WOW, that was more like a party than a clean up!

I want to thank all that came out to help, from the 56 people that signed the list, the shooters that stayed and helped after the range was shut down, the people I talked to that are not Calguns members but watch the forum and came out anyways..... We had 65 or so people there.

Thanks to all of you that brought food, drinks, ice, ezups, helped cook and helped coordinate people while others of us were out working and those that brought trash bags.

Thanks to BLM for keeping the range cold and safe and for coordinating between the 2 other agencys for the trash disposal.

Thanks to Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency for letting us use their dumpsters that they had on another clean up a few miles away.

Thanks to Riverside County Waste Management Department for bringing the trucks to haul the trash from our site to the dumpsters and thanks to the guys in the trucks that did the labor.

Steele Peak looked good after the CalGun personnel and others cleaned it yesterday. I made a CD of the photographs I took and will send {attach} them for those wishing to see the photo's. I'm at GrandpaofTyler@aol.com, just email me with a email address. Thanks to those personnel who brought the water, soda's, food, tents, etc. If we can get those 5% that don't clean up after theirselves, we will have a good place for all to shoot. Looking forward to the next clean up....that was a blast yesterday.

You all did a great job and I'm only sorry I was unable to make it this time to help out. I hope by the time of the next one, my knee will be healed sufficiently and I can once again participate.

You are all to be congratulated for your hard work and effort.

Ron and Robbie, once again you guys did a great job in organizing this event!

ALSO ::::

Just was E-Mailed a copy of this ::::

Gordon,

We can't thank all at CalGuns enough for your time and passion you put into your clean-ups. We feel blessed to have you all on our team. I like the sign put up by CalGuns, and it must be working, as I hear the clean-ups are getting smaller. You will always be our strongest team and we appreciate all of the hard work and your time sacrificed, to help us keep this area clean and open to all shooters. Now if we could just teach the other 5% that don't have respect for the land that would be nice.

With the greatest of respectfully to you and your team,

Thanks Again,

Hey taco Todd I think I ended up with two of your grabbers. "Johnson" marked on them???? Let me know if these are yours. We can arrange a meet if you need them soon. Probably cost more in gas then the price of the grabber though... Let me know,.......kevin

We saw them there yesterday. Saw the truck at the bottom of the Hill. Looked like they just perked it there. We drive up the hill go to park and see a bunch of guys in orange jump suits on top of the Hill cleaning up. Probably about 15 people out there cleaning. Looked like they were getting ready to do a control burn.

Was the truck a CalFire box van looking crew truck that said Oak Glen or Prado on the side? The orange jump suits are prisoners. I have no idea what they were doing.... possibly training???, I did not have the fire raido on yesterday so I did not hear if they were dispatched there.

Yes it was that type of truck, I don't remember for sure what it said on the side. Thank you for all the info. I thought it was a little strange they were out there.

Hey, Calguns made the BLM news letter!

Here is a quote from the news letter email they send out and if you click the link it takes you to the write up and the first thing you see is the Calguns clean up sign courtesy of Eat Dirt.

Quote:
"Steele Peak Reserve Cleanup" (News.bytes Extra)
The Palm Springs-South Coast BLM Field Office, in cooperation with Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency, Riverside County Waste Management, and members of Calguns.net hosted a volunteer cleanup at Steele Peak Stephen's Kangaroo Rat Reserve. Approximately 65-70 volunteers showed on a recent Saturday to remove garbage, including broken target boards and spent shells, from the hillsides of the reserve.
http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/new..._-_steele.html
Thanks to all of you that came out and made this happen! The people at the BLM office I speak with really appreciate all your efforts too.

So, I'm taking a group of boy scouts to the Perris BLM area on Saturday June 15th. We're going to be getting there early to do some cleanup before shooting, hopefully before the yahoo's show up. I'm teaching a muzzleloading class to the troop so you'll be able to tell where we are by the big clouds of smoke! If you want to help, come on by. I think we'll try to hit the range by 8 am.

Im sure the scouts will like that. I was there on april 27 for the clean up and we had a good turn out. I was up there today and looks really good as far as trash and used targets. If you get out there early you should be good.

Yeah, I wanted to go to that clean up, but my schedule wouldn't cooperate. I feel this is the best way for me to pitch in my efforts to support the shooting sports in Southern CA: Cleanup a public shooting area and teach the upcoming generation of shooting enthusiasts how to responsibly shoot on public lands.

Last time I was there some f888 faces had dumped a couch and all types of garbage. I took as much as I could out, as I always do, but not the damned couch. That ain't gonna fit in my Mazda. When I returned a couple of weeks afterwards, the couch was gone, either due to Calgunners on 4/27 or some other decent folks. Good work, guys.
