Andrew, Andrew, Andrew.....what am I going to do with you little man. The name badges are not so we all know who we are, because all of us (well, maybe you don't) know who we are, it is the other guys we don't know. That's why we wear name badges.

I'd like to go desert shooting again, maybe even bring the wife, but I just got back from our Trip From Hell(TM) and don't think I could load up enough ammo by Saturday.

I started to get everything together and get it in the van... I will be working late and getting to work early for the next few days so I won't have the time to pack later...

As I was going through my old gear I found some stuff I was hoping to barter while I am out there... Is anyone interested in doing a little bit of trading?

If anybody is taking very young kids and would like to teach them how to shoot, let me know so I can take my son's 22 with me; my son can't go, it's my ex-wife's day with the kids.

Quote:
The Signs and Symptoms of Dehydration
Basically, Water, Water, Water, Cover, Cover, Sun Screen

Symptoms of dehydration usually begin with thirst and progress to more alarming manifestations as the need for water becomes more dire. The initial signs and symptoms of mild dehydration in adults appear when the body has lost about 2% of it's total fluid. These mild dehydration symptoms are often (but not limited to):

* Thirst
* Loss of Appetite
* Dry Skin
* Skin Flushing
* Dark Colored Urine
* Dry Mouth
* fatigue or Weakness
* Chills
* Head Rushes

If the dehydration is allowed to continue unabated, when the total fluid loss reaches 5% the following effects of dehydration are normally experienced:

* Increased heart rate
* Increased respiration
* Decreased sweating
* Decreased urination
* Increased body temperature
* Extreme fatigue
* Muscle cramps
* Headaches
* Nausea
* Tingling of the limbs

When the body reaches 10% fluid loss emergency help is needed IMMEDIATELY! 10% fluid loss and above is often fatal! Symptoms of severe dehydration include:

* Muscle spasms
* Vomiting
* Racing pulse
* Shriveled skin
* Dim vision
* Painful urination
* Confusion
* Difficulty breathing
* Seizures
* Chest and Abdominal pain
* unconsciousness

Be aware that these are not the only symptoms of severe dehydration that may manifest in response to dehydration, these are simply the most common. Symptoms of dehydration will differ from person to person because the body is a complex network of systems and everyone's body is different. When these systems are disturbed due to loss of fluids there will be several common symptoms shared by most bodies, but there may also be unusual or unexpected responses depending on the particular person in question. Age also plays a part in the manifestation of symptoms. Signs of dehydration in a child will not be the same as those experienced by a teenager, adult or in the elderly. Dehydration prevention is the best treatment for every age group. heatstroke is always around the corner.

Recognizing Heat Exhaustion

Warning signs of heat exhaustion include the following:
  • Heavy sweating
  • Paleness
  • Muscle cramps
  • Tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fainting
The skin may be cool and moist. The victim's pulse rate will be fast and weak, and breathing will be fast and shallow. If heat exhaustion is untreated, it may progress to heat stroke. Seek medical attention immediately if any of the following occurs:
  • Symptoms are severe
  • The victim has heart problems or high blood pressure
Otherwise, help the victim to cool off, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen or last longer than 1 hour.
Quote:
What to Do

Cooling measures that may be effective include the following:
  • Cool, nonalcoholic beverages
  • Rest
  • Cool shower, bath, or sponge bath
  • An air-conditioned environment
  • Lightweight clothing

Main thing I want to point out is the:

  • Tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Dizziness
Reason I want to point this out is you will be handling a firearm you need to exercises extreme awareness of yourself if you get tired and become punchy while handling the firearm. If you arent traveling with a buddy and have room under your cover buddy up with someone that has no cover.
105 degrees is extreme and the noon time sun will burn you and sap your energy fast.

Bring windshield covers for your cars. this kind of heat will warp CD's and plastic things.

All very good points Pennys dad, I would also suggest that everyone starts hydrating now, I know with us in the military will start hydrating a few days before we know we have to be out in the environment.

Also, I don't have the equipment, but I'm trained to administer IVs

Seems like most stuff is covered so I hit up Home Depot on my way home and picked up 80 pairs of foam earplugs for anyone who forgets / loses / drops / destroys theirs. Plus I figure the what ever is not used up will just continue to show up at shoots until they are gone

I will have 2 or 3 22's with me as well.

In all honesty I waffle between finding you disgusting and pitying you that your life is so void of anything substantial that you measure yourself by 'conquests' and who you know that can get you in where.

What do you recommend for hydrating in advance? Water, gatoraid, PowewrAid, etc?

I want to make sure i'm hydrating with the right kind of liquid,

Damn, I wish I could go but I'll be jumping out of planes instead.

I have a HUGE med bag and stretcher that I could have brought along...

Please, please, please everyone... drinks lots of water and EAT as healthy as you can. Dehydration is a quick and silent killer, I see it kill folks every day.
