Smile 2012 Golden Bullet Norcal USPSA Sectional match

I'm happy to announce that we will be having the Golden Bullet at Richmond in 2012. The date set for the match is July 27-29. RO's/Staff to shoot on the 27th, and competitors will follow the traditional day and a half on the 28th and 29th.

There will be 12 squads of 12 and we will break for lunch from 12-1 on Sat. I'm still working out a lot of the details at this point, but the call is always out for help. RO's, stage builders, and various other people.. We will be a level II match this year. There will be at least 8 stages, and likely approx 200 rounds required.. We will have the dreaded Chrono just to keep us all honest..

As usual, questions/comments, pm me here or just post to the thread.. Keep an eye on the thread as I'll update things as we get closer to the date.

Match apps are now available at http://richmondhotshots.com/docs/GBC2012App.pdf

I plan to have squadding on the USPSA web site start on or around March 1st.. Please make sure you include your email address, as the notice is sent to your email and you will receive a password sent to your inbox.. make sure and check your spam filters also..

Is there a USPSA state match ever? Or is it mainly regional events?

How many stages Vince?

Rich

ETA: 10%F - Each "Area" of USPSA (there's 8) is then broken into Sections with their own Coordinator. From there it's up to that Section (Northern California, e.g.) if they want to hold a Championship match. As for a state, I know it's done in other states (Texas, e.g.) but I think that's a simple agreement between sections to delineate Match 'X' as the State match. Hope that helps.

Um... second paragraph.. at least 8.. I might make it 9 or 10..

There is the Norcal and Socal sections... so there is no "State" match.. I don't know if Socal has a section match at all.. The Norcal section consists of 8 clubs in Norcal.. I think we are Fresno/Morro Bay North to the OR border.

I believe there are 8 core clubs, but I can't name them all off the top of my head.. There is no CA State org to run a state match.

HL51 - Guess those guys in Texas that have been doing it for 20 years are wrong. Nope. It's a Level 3.

Last year, there were only 2 sectionals that were level III. Since they no longer award slots to the nationals for a level III sectional, no one holds a level III any longer. One reason why we are only going for a level II. There was no advantage for the level III any longer. Restrictions for level II are looser than level III so that's the direction we are going for now..

Yes, you are right, I was looking at the wrong appendix in the rules, copy and paste error, it happens when you have too many windows open.

USPSA Match Levels

Level I — Club matches conducted on a scheduled basis throughout the year.
Level II — Sectional or State matches conducted on an annual basis.
Level III — Annual championship matches conducted by USPSA Areas (1 - 8).
Nationals — Annual USPSA championship matches.

Note: Major matches conducted on an irregular or annual basis and which
do not represent a specific Section, State, or Area championship shall request either Level II or Level III sanctioning.

Rich, by the way, how come you are moving to Georgia?

actually, level III doesn't need international approval.. John Amidon goes thumbs up or down... and around here it's USPSA not IPSC.. Officials need not all be certified.. they just need a certified RO ON the stage..

Where are you getting this international match approval stuff? I've run and been a part of several level III's and we never had to do what you're talking about..

And you're kind of getting off topic, this is about the Golden Bullet coming up in 2012.. please refrain from drifting the thread..

Vince - Up front, thanks to you and the Richmond crew for doing this. Even though we'll be gone, my wife and I will likely try to make it up for the match. For sponsors, let me know if there's anything I can do and I'll contact mine to see what kind of goodies we can contribute to the prize table.

Going to AZ and it's 'cause we're tired of being Americans, NOT living in America.

Just an update.. things are starting to organize a bit.. I had a discussion with my Prize coordinator.. He is a gent who shall remain anonymous for now, but he has a good amount of experience getting things together.. He's worked other matches and I think will be a great asset.. I'm debating the prize structure and am thinking of doing a combination of raffle and top spot OA (in each division) gets the option for cash or more raffle tickets (their choice), each shooter will get at least 1 ticket and there may be other items we might sell tickets for.... this is all in the planning stage for now and it may change.. I hope to get match apps available right around Jan 1st, 2012..

I dont really mind raffling away some prizes... However, even if we shoot because its hella fun, awarding randomness rather than skill feels somewhat wrong and more socialist than American
Personally, I think that prizes given off in a raffle should be less than half of the prizes/money and also only be valid for the people staying for the award ceremony. At least then there's a purpose with it, and not just randomly giving stuff away...

Ditto. Just offering input. None of my sponsors though will donate when folks other than the shooters in the match can win what they provide.

You can be unclassified and shoot, thought you must be a USPSA member... there is no extra tickets for HOA unclassified.. or just get thee to the classifier match in January..

Rich, the prizes are meant ONLY for competitors.. there will be no purchase of tickets for that for anyone.. not even for competitors.. my intention is that tickets are awarded for showing up, and also extra tickets are awarded based on merit. The better you place, if you don't take the cash prize, the more tickets you may potentially get... If you take the cash prize, you are ineligible for the prize raffle..

Again, that may change.. it's an idea I'm kicking around.. There may be other raffles that you can buy into, but not at the expense of the generous donations of sponsors.

I like the idea of "rewarding" performance with an increased chance of winning. I just disagree (like others) on being able to "buy" your way a prize on the table via tickets or tickets being sold to the general public.

Thanks for the clarification V.

Do whatever you like Joe, I'd just shoot at the level you are comfortable with.. don't shoot the classifiers over and over to get a higher score than you are capable of on the basis of "on demand".

Rich, I was poking fun more at Gose than at you I fully agree with the prizes in the Shooter raffle should be ONLY for the competitors.. I can see how what I posted could be taken in the broad sense as opposed to singling out one particular person..

Thanks for the vote of confidence but if Greg just made A then I wouldn't be surprised if I was a C. I have to pick a pistol/division and stick with it. I keep bouncing around.

I'm in forsure, I'll probably be there building stages and ROing as well. Now I'll just have to pick a division haha.

Joe - I can see you in B. You just have to remember when you shoot the classifiers to shoot accuratly but not waste time. If you rush too much your hits will suffer, if you lag too much you time will suffer, but you don't want to gain time in place of points on the classifiers.

Ok, update.. I'm thinking that the raffle thing isn't such a hot idea.. I've had some input and will likely default to something like they did at Area 2. I may add a raffle for other things (USPSA Jr program for one idea). Raffle tickets will be available at the match, not in advance (since keeping track of all that would be a nightmare for me). That will be separate from sponsor donations unless they designate donations specifically for that purpose.

Wouldn't miss it.

When should we start submitting suggested stage designs, and/or signing up to RO?

Of course you can apply.

Are you a current USPSA member?

I am a USPSA member. Are there any required classes or courses I need to attend to shoot at that range? Or will being a current active USPSA member allow me to participate?
