Howdy to all the new members posting to the forum. How about a meet and greet in the Salinas area or even Soledad for breakfast? The Harvest Inn has a small private dinning room that will hold 20 people or so.

Anyone see the MC weeklys article on CCW permits?
Not much was discussed, but, the sheriff says personal protection is NOT an acceptable good cause statement.
"If my standard was going to be that personal protection alone was good cause, then our screening process was going to be much more robust than it had been."

That's interesting. Without having read the article I can't speak to your statement that PP is not acceptable GC in Monterey County, but the quote you posted describes Miller's policy exactly: they DO accept PP as GC (or at least they were when I applied & was denied) but they make satisfying the GMC requirement MUCH harder (see the Monterey County Sunshine initiative thread for more info).

Just arrived in Monterey, on orders to NPS. Will be around for about 2 years.

Had to leave half firearms behind, have grand intentions of getting deeply into long range shooting. Expect to spend many a weekend at Laguna enjoying my bolt action 308.

Note: I'll be the guy on the range in the kilt, when ever I can find some ammo to start breaking in the barrel and sighting in the scope.

Live in Santa Maria work in San Luis Obispo. Shoot 9mm and 5.56 and 12 gauge but about to expand to 22. 45acp and 308. Do quite a few AR builds or mods for people.

Looking to tag along with some people to learn to hunt. Would like to eventually be able to bring home my own deer, pig, or duck. Have 0 knowledge on field dressing unless it's a trip tip or rib eye

Royal Oaks/Elkhorn here. Just recently wading back into the gun pool. Not sure what hobbies or skills I could offer the chapter as I am still new on the site. My favorite hobby is gaming though so if you want to connect on PS4 you can find me under the same username.

East of paso? You need to make friends with a rancher or vineyard owner that has a pig problem.

Salinas resident here. Recently bought a new Glock. I don't find any classes or instruction in the area. I don't want to drive to the Bay Area all the time. Is anyone aware of local events, instruction?

Moving to Santa Cruz. Will be a resident in a few weeks. Glad to be leaving Los Angeles. Anything weird I should know about the gun laws specific to the area?

Probably no different than what you are seeing in L.A, You can still own and keep firearms here unlike some of our near-by municipalities. Basic state laws apply.
For a great local gun store, I highly recommend 'Santa Cruz Armory'; super knowledgeable, super friendly group of folks who will happily answer any specific questions.
Good, solid core of 2nd amendment supporters here, will be nice to have another one moving in! Welcome!

Templeton here, stuck between Paso and Atascadero. Looking for a shooting buddy. Anyone a member at SLOSA that wants to take me along so that I can check the place out? Give me some real reviews of the place since it seems to be the only outdoor range in the area

Been to the slosa a few times but not a member, I work in SLO but live in Santa Maria. Plenty of people in Templeton make friends with people that have ranches or have property that is 2A friendly.

Hey the fact you can fire off any rounds at all right outside your house in the state of California is amazing. Lucky you man.

25 yards is pretty cool!

I just took possession of my temp housing in S.C. There was a nra sticker on the fridge and a huge workbench with a nice vice in the attached workshop. Quite a nice surprise! The workshop wasn't even covered in the ad. Climate controlled even!

Hey all! New to the forum but somehow already made a purchase...I'm in Pacific Grove and hope to get some range time soon. Just bought a DDM4V11 so hoping to find a good range and some good classes/instructors in the area.

Since you're in PG you should do yourself a favor and when you get the chance drive yourself into Marina and go visit Del Valle Gunsmithing. Ray, Joe, and Mary are awesome there. For ranges I would start with Laguna Seca since its closest and later on get over to Markleys in Watsonville, preferably during the week since every weekend I've gone there they are super packed.

I may be biased to Del Valle since I literally live up the street from that shop.

WTB/WTT for a Ruger SR1911. Monterey county area preferred, but will head as far as San Jose or San Luis Obispo areas, maybe further.
