I was in Phelan for two days last week visiting a buddy who is just getting into shooting. I know there are several CG members out there. Be patient, they will show up!

I live in the heart of the Victor Valley and I shoot a minimum of twice a month at Apple Valley Gun Club - Steel Challenge (second Sat @ 9) and Defensive Pistol (last Sun @ 8). If I can get my hands on more ammo I'll be back to my usual once a week. Looking into shotgun and shooting trap but I have to get a shotgun first.

I can't say enough about steel challenge and defensive pistol. Both are exhilerating and immediate feedback. We are in process of becoming an affiliated club of USPSA aka IPSC. OUr events are open to the public and it's a good way to check out the gun club to see if you want to become a member.

Speak up and let us know your out there
Hodge Is a no go for rifle and pistol, altough if you go out there you will see all kinds of rifle and pistol cartriges, and any sign that tells you what you cant do there whistles in the wind it has so many holes in it. I'm down in the San Bernardino area and go up to BLM land of of old Hwy 58. After trying to get ahold of a ranger, being passed from one office to another to eternal hold..... finally got ahold of a BLM ranger in that area. His words to me on a legal shooting area, Take 15 North to Old Hwy 58, exit there you will loop around and be heading west there will be a dirt road on your right hand side, turn off there and drive back a ways, find a good backstop/hill and shoot away. when your on old hwy 58 if you get to the drive in theater you have gone too far. We went up two weeks ago and there was a sign right at the dirt road. The sign didn't have anything to do with shooting or what was down that road, its just the only landmark I can think of to mention. I have been up there twice, never once Have we ever seen anyone up there, it does get very windy though, so check the forecast. I have shot my OLL's withought problems there. but like I said I have never seen anyone there eaither. Hope this helps.

Yea I have been to hodge road for the past 5 years and never had a problem with anyone or been hassled by any rangers, CHP, or LE at all. I know its shotgun only but we shoot anything and everything out there. For the most part I have never ran into an unsafe issues out there, the only thing that bothers me is that the dirtbike riders etc. are always riding around where we shoot, if I were them I would jump over the freeway and ride where its available, its funny that right over the freeway its an OHV area yet they still ride around a bunch of people firing guns. WTF?

How far is that? Is there an address? Are they OLL friendly? Can you use your own ammo?

I'm in Hesperia, my shooting is Apple Valley Gun Club as well. It really isn't that expensive. Plus driving out into the booneys costs more for gas if you shoot more than twice a month.

Phelan, I've really been looking at the Apple Valley Gun Club. I've been told lots of good things , about the club. I'm tired of driving forever and still having to worry about rangers.

Can anyone please give me some more details about the Apple Valley Gun Club.

Are they OLL friendly?
Do they require you to use only THEIR ammo?
Rifle and Handgun, or shotgun? Or maybe ALL??
Do they keep the brass or can you take it?

AVGC is member only access. Check out thier website to get details on joining http://www.applevalleygunclub.com/ . With that being said.
OLL Friendly
They do not sell ammo, so bring your own only.
Rifle, Handgun, Shotgun, Archery, and Indoor .22 range.
You keep your own brass if you want it. Otherwise leave it and I'll take it

+1 to qbi2001 - AVGC has a lot going for it and well worth the membership investment.

The rules for membership are tightening up a bit. Your sponsor needs to be with you at the meeting when you are presented for membership. Your NRA membership must be inplace prior to applying and sustained throughout your membership (insurance purposes). A copy of your card must be included initially and each year thereafter. A receipt for paid dues will suffice in lieu of the card.

The Club is open to the public during the scheduled events such as the Steel Challenge and the Defensive Pistol shoots we hold each month. We also allow guests to shoot along with the members.

Default Lions Pride Park

Lions pride park is ran by the Lucerne valley Lions club, it`s their civic project. They are a little known secret I tried to keep to myself but the cats out of the bag. It`s just west of LV, if your going out hwy 18 toward Lucerne there is a sign on the North side of the road, Lions Pride Park, turn there, the first time it`s kinda hard to find but follow the signs or anyone going down the road is going there. They have 3 ranges, rifle, pistol and skeet. All are covered with shooting positions, there is a large patio area with picnic style benches, we always take a lunch as they have no food sales. Saturday is the only day open to the public, $6.00 for all day, 8-3 or 4. It`s very casual, they are only concerned with safety, A few members who live in OC come up because where they shoot they can`t have real magnetic bullets or some nonsense, no one cares about what you shoot, as long as you follow the safety rules. On Sundays clubs rent it, SASS, IPSC different groups. There are some Sundays when there is no club renting it, 5-6 times a year and anyone can rent it, costs about $75.
