The Downsizer Corp in Santee, CA made and delivered
a handful of its WSP models for a few years before SB15
became law and production stopped for good. I believe fewer than 100 pistols were delivered up to that point. Whatever the exact number was, it was't very large.

The WSP model received lots of positive reviews after they were introduced at the SHOT Show (1998, I think). There is a very detailed article by Robert Hausman in HANDGUNS 2001.

Specifications Model WSP (World's Smallest Pistol)
Calibers 45 ACP, 357 Magnum (Also fires 38 Special), 9mm & 40 S&W
Capacity Single Shot
Trigger Double action only
Action Tip up barrel, push button release
Materials Stainless steel, CNC machined
Sights None, smooth snag free top
Safety Internal firing pin block
Overall Length 3.25" (Smaller than a playing card)
Barrel Length 2.10"
Height 2.25" (Smaller than a playing card)
Thickness 0.90"
Weight 11 oz.

Gunwriters opinions:
http://web.archive.org/web/200107220...downsizer.com/

This WSP .45 has a three digit serial number. I believe the serial numbers started with 100.
There are three extra, fitted barrels for this pistol in addition to the .45 ACP barel: .357 mag, 9mm, and 40 S&W.

Most of the WSP's that were sold were .45's. There were a few 9mm and a very, very few in .357 mag and .40.

I believe this may be the only set of its kind with a total of four interchangeable, fitted barrels.

I would prefer to see this pistol remain in CA. This is the only site it is being advertrised, at present. CA buyers will be given preference for five days.

The last MSRP on the WSP was $499.
Extra barrels were never advertised as an option.

Price for this unique, historical set: $1200.
No trades at this time, thank you.

PPT in the San Diego area.

Well, I guess, this one does qualify for the single shot pistol exception

Like the other people have asked, I would really appreciate seeing the grip panels removed from this guy to check out the innards.

Just so there is no FUD.
It actually does not qualify for the single shot exemption. Obviously one requirement is single shot but it also has to meet:

Quote:
Single-shot pistols with a barrel length of not less than six inches and that have an
overall length of at least 10 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel
are assembled. (Penal Code 12133.)

I'd only want to fire it if my life was in danger. Can you imagine what the recoil would be like with the .357 barrel on.

Also, building a home version of a commercially-sold gun like this one meets the stupid CA law, so as to NOT be a "zip gun".

Tagged for internals too

I fired a .44 magnum derringer today first with several rounds of 240gr., then with a 270gr. full power load. I bet the WSP is a downright joy to shoot now

FYI- the derringer recoiled so hard with the 270gr., the hammer spring bounced out of the retaining hole in the frame and had to be reset by hand after removing the grips. The hammer also bit me hard (only with that one shot). Everyone else declined to try it with those

Man this thing is cool! I'd love to just get some schematics for this and build one! Maybe play with the calibers, 500S&W anyone? lol

Cool pistol! I know the owner of this company ripped off a bunch of people a few years back and the ATF took the company under. Interesting bit of history with it, too!

Mods - since the gun has sold, but has other posts of interest - can this thread be moved to another Forum?
