Clean rifle and parts w Orange Degreaser.

Apply base coat of khaki/sand

Apply a dark brown fade into the lighter, leaving areas khaki

Use 3m painters tape to create stencils

Place tape on table, sticky side down.

Trace or freehand cut out patters w exacto blade

Cut many stencils out

Cut some more

Apply stencils to 1/3rd of surface area

Remember your doing a negative print, so the stencil you place down will retain the color underneath.

Spray the surface w Army Green, leave areas transitioning into brown and khaki

Go smoke a bowl let it dry good

Leave the stencils, apply the second layer of stencils

Have the second layer overlap some areas of the previous stencil, when finished this will add dimension

Smoke another bowl

Before the third stencil, find a darker and lighter green, transition the three greens all over your object

Apply the third stencil which is your darkest brown almost black. I like to use the female stencil for this, that is the section left behind after removing your stencil shape. The brown and white are generally in small areas of the pattern, so cut small circles and long skinny dong shaped pieces by folding tape in half and cutting along the fold to get a symmetrical shape.

Don't go too much on the brown, small areas with too much of one color or blemishes can be covered in this time.

Now the white or eggshell, this will complete your pattern, it looks empty without it.

Use small ovalnshapesvand a few long skinny shapes, place them near the darkest areas and a few in areas of too much monochromatic color or blemishes. The white looks great wrapping around bends and corners

Now remove all the stencils

Slowly

Wearing nitrile gloves so your oils don't ruin the finish

Once done, apply a clear coat

Practice makes perfect!

Well OK then, I didn't mean your step by step procedure just more of what colors and or patterns you used. It turned out great. But thanks for that detailed instructional sheet. What do I do if I no longer smoke bowls?

Aervoe rattle can job, photographed prior to first outings. Comes off easy enough with some abuse. Way better than Krylon though. I like the worn, used finish, so the more abuse, the better it'll get.

Rifle Gear Aggressor lower, ALG QMS Trigger (great cost effective upgrade), YHM 14.5 CHF BRL, RRA BCG, modified Samson 7" EX rail with flip up YHM gasblock. Definitely a FrankenAR, but been a great shooter so far.

Do you have any updated pics after it's first use? I'm also in the same boat with the worn/used aesthetic look of rifles.

I've only taken it out twice so far and the only abrasions or scuff marks are minor, mainly on shell deflector. It'll happen over time, but not anytime soon. I'm not rolling in dirt going vehicle to vehicle, it's not a duty firearm.

If you have the money and know a good place, I would suggest Duracoat, Ceracoat, Gunkote over rattle can. That'll wear off eventually too, but far my resilient.

I decided to erase any profitable resale value on my M6IC and take to spray painting it. This is my first attempt at ever painting a rifle and doesn't look as good as Whoreable's, but his rifle inspired me want to try something on mine.

That's a very enticing offer, but too bad you're in SF and I'm in the IE. I only do ftf . And I had to ruin it so I don't feel like I have to baby it to try and keep it pristine whenever I use it. I absolutely hate the thought of a babied gun, safe queen, or a collectible that I should feel guilty about using.

Yeah, no problem. It's not the greatest, best lit photo but it's the only decentish one of the whole rifle -

I have put this one up for sale, but still love it, just felt more like an SPR than a carbine.

Too many cheaters here, just tossing on some colored furniture on an otherwise black AR, so I went the other way with mine and painted it with AlumahydeII Earth Brown.

Gorgeous color in person, my crap phone pix just cant capture it ( actually Im sure with a pro rig I still couldnt do it). Its just a tic darker than Magpuls FDE. Here she is with her big sister, not an AR, but not black either
