I emailed them my Live Scan April 30th. Hadn't heard back so I sent them an email yesteday asking about the status per their website. Got a call today. Might try and do the same see if you have any luck.

On a side note has anyone interviewed with a detective Hardy before? If so experiences? Haven't seen his name mentioned in the thread before.

When I originally applied in 2016 it took about 9 or 9 and 1/2 months. I just did my renewal. In a couple weeks i had the renewal interview by phone. Got my letter a week later hope that helps.

I just sent email as you suggested. I submitted my live scan 7 weeks ago and have not heard anything yet. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit (8/6):

Just had my interview. Everything went really well. Not many questions were asked. I was in and out in about 30min.

UPDATE: I GOT THE LETTER!!!
Approved to move forward with the CCW process (I did not do the course before because I did not want to be out several hundred $ if I got rejected)
Timeline:
Application - Early May
Livescan Appt - Mid May
Contacted for interview - Mid July
Interview - End of July but that was on me, investigator had openings sooner but I wasn't available
Letter - Mid August

So roughly 3 months between submitting livescan and clearing background, better than I expected. Just need that course within 90 days.

Picked up my renewal hard card today. Took less than 3 minutes.

Interestingly, we don't get a new "rice paper" anymore. What we get is a larger . . . um . . . copy of it, with an embossed seal in the paper. We sign 3 copies of the same, then give our thumb print. Two of those copies remain with the VCSD, one of them we take home in lieu of the rice paper.

No new photo either.

Just wanted to share this with you.

Has anyone asked if/when the Sheriff's Office will switch to online applications/renewals? If so, what did they say?

It's a good way for the sheriff to save time, money and effort/staff time in processing apps. Easier for applicants too, speeding up the process and it's especially helpful for renewals since those can be done entirely online from home.

Just trying to eliminate needless bottlenecks in the process.

I asked at my last renewal (16 months ago) and was told they were not planning on moving anything on-line.

That could change once the new Sheriff takes office I suppose.

Personally, I'd prefer it if it said "a desire for personal safety...", but as long as they apply it the same way, no biggie.

Any word on if they will bring back weapons amendments or have done so already?
I was told at the time I got my LTC in late 2017 that one can only add weapons at the time they renew their CCW.

Just received a letter this month (December 2018) with a disclaimer at the bottom stating "As of August 1, 2017, we are no longer doing weapon amendments (adding or deleting). Should you wish to add or delete a weapon to your permit, you must wait until you renew your CCW license. Upon renewal, whatever firearm you qualify with, is what will go on your permit (up to 5 guns)."

So, doesn't sound like the policy has changed yet.

Interesting. They changed the app to only have 3 spots when I went to renew.

That’s because the DOJ Application has three lines only. Add a continuation sheet with the others. In actuality when your CCW Instructor submits they will use that list.

To be a Ventura resident you have to show proof of 6 months residency. I asked that on my interview 5 yrs ago. Maybe it changed.

Ventura county resident for 6 months or just a California resident in general? Didn't see anything in the application paperwork beyond
"a. Be a resident of the County of Ventura. "

I literally put "Self Defense" and nothing else. Just got my approval letter for renewal last Saturday.
