Smile Went to a Swiss shooting range! (pic heavy)(necrothread lolz)

Went to LGS in Solothurn, CH (Swiss) - our company is based there...

Anyway, the LGS owner also OWNS a pistol range. He's got some Swiss Sigs (40-50 yrs old) and a Sphynx (imagine a CZ and HiPower merged...). He also had a surprising amount of traditional pistols (not a bad thing) and is going to let me try out a Swiss Sig and a Sphynx - gratis...!

We'll see what we can see... I might post pics, but all gun range pics seem the same.. lol.

BTW - the Wiki stuff about Switzerland wrt guns is mostly crap, so it was nice to run into a guy who is pro-gun and proud of it.

I've seen pictures of FCSA shoots there and, to get 1000 yards, they shoot across a valley wth a public road inbetween the shooters and the targets. They sure have some different attitudes towards shooting there.

@CSACANNONEER:

That's what has confused me for almost 5 years. Most of the populace are anti-HAND-gun.

Yes, Swiss Military Service is mandatory.
Yes, Swiss Military conscripts are required to bring their Military issued guns and ammo to their homes. But - if they OPEN or use the ammo without orders, that is a big problem, possible fines or at worst, jail time

In general, most folks do not own rifles or handguns and argue against private gun ownership, with the exception of hunting. I've mentioned that I own several handguns, and - you know the look - ("He's a nutcase..")... I always amend that statment with the - "I'm a target shooter, and support the right to own a firearm."

It's complicated. But YES - you are correct, there are a lot of gun ranges for the Mil conscripts here... I hear them in the afternoon shooting...

@TBHRACING - dang it, now I have to change my cat avatar...

If you happen to talk to anyone shooting a 50BMG, tell them csacannoneer from the FCSA says "Hi!" If his name is Marcus, tell him that we've missed him at the last couple Coalinga matches.

Default Like pictures of your uncle's trip when you were a kid..... :)

Posting pics of gunshop. Shooting tomorrow (unless something goes wrong).

Rifle Case - K11 is far right, K31's next to that, P57's (?) are automatic. Some 3 burst, some full rock and roll. Some lever actions. Didn't get the prices of them...

Not such a great picture. These are Olympic rifles. Don't know a thing about them. Or what they cost.

One of two pistola cases. Surprisingly he had an all-Inox Italian model for 1125 CH/Francs (about $1 USD = .9 CH/Franc). The price on the other guns in the shop were all in line with USA prices. He had a Beretta 70 model in 22LR for 300 Swiss Francs... Said no one is interested in 22LR... It had the longer barrel with target sights... Had a few Glocks...XD's.

Now for the Swiss Sigs. P220, ~40 years old.

This is a nickel plated Sig P220. Same deal.

Default More stuff

Locally made Sphynx (CZ clone), was made in Solothurn, now made in Interlocken. Unobtainium (2 pix)

Local color - this is some kind of triathlon. You can drink the water. (Folks swimming, really hard to tell)

And this is the JungFrau (on right) and the Eiger (on the left). Went up to the Schilthorn (apparently a James Bond movie was filmed there - rotating restaurant. My luck was all clouded out.

Smile You ain't seen nothin' yet! :)

Wow, just wow.

I get to the right train station, guy picks me up on a small scooter and a rifle bag! (?) He drives way to fast for those tiny little tires (with a chubby 54 year old on the back) and viola, we are at the entrance to the range. It's UNDERGROUND!

Pictures of Sviss countryside while I'm waiting for the dude to show.

Smile Range Pics

Range is 25 meters

My target at 10 meters and his (22LR rifle) at 25 meters.

Sphynx (left) and Sig P210. He said it's also called a '9011' - the 210 was used by military. I don't know..

I shot okay with the P210. I think it was 8 rounds. Had a few flinch problems. It has mag disconnect safety, so trigger could have been even better. I had a heck of a time with the old style mag release. (Push mag release on bottom of gun with thumb and pull mag with rest of that hand).

Here's where it gets REAL INTERESTING. He pulls out an old S&W 22LR with a silencer!
I couldn't hit crap with it. The can just outweighed the gun. (See target last pic).
Family picture. Later he pulled out later model P220 (range gun).

Smile Final pics..

Now for the awesome stuff. A CZ semi auto rifle. 25 rounds of 9mm at your disposal, charging handle way up front near the front of the barrel.

Nother pic of the CZ. It had a ghost sight, but (as opposed to an AR), I could actually see through this one. Stock folds kinda like a SCAR.

Target - has 22LR with CAN, most of the shots are the CZ. Two are from the later P220 which I was fiddling with.

I have a video of the dude shooting the CZ and he's never shot it before, laughing like crazy.

Cannot complain! Never shot a gun with a silencer, and the CZ was so light and accurate.. hard to describe.

Default Thanks guys.

I wasn't sure about posting kind of a travel log...

BUT. I'm so confused... about the Swiss attitude to gun ownership.

I talked to coworkers about how nice the range was. None were even neutral to 2A. Some said I must be a 'dangerous person' to want to shoot a gun. Some went on rants about how dangerous America is and all the violence in America.

Without going overboard, I explained the numbers - 300+ million Americans, any kind of violence is blown all over the press. 8 million Swiss, a violent event is hidden by the press. In fact there was a town where where 2 people were killed in a shooting a couple of days ago.

And yet, the pro-gun Swiss myth lives on. Very confusing. The LGS owner was obviously the exception.

He lies, he posted in the secret Brony thread multiple times. He is still in the closet but trolling with his ava. He is a member of the herd.

The swiss attitude towards their arms seems more Nationalist, in many ways more true to form of our Founders attitude towards the 2A, rather than our more modern reclamation movement.

Excellent report! Many thanks.

...oh and did you know the Swiss have one of the strongest currencies in the world? So much so that the Swiss central bank has to keep "putting it down" so it doesn't get too strong and inhibit exports.

You may be on target there, they have fiercely protected their neutrality. The national desire for arms may be rooted in that concept.

I don't know that I would. Apparently they think we're a bunch of psycho gun owning folks who want to do harm to others because we're into shooting sports.

Hi, which gunshop did you go to, what street was it in? I'm gonna be there (actually 300 yards from Bellach station) for the next 6-7 months so would be good to find a friendly range.
Thanks!

Dude PM me. I swear I got on the train in Solothurn and Bellach was like a mile or two away.
I can try to hook you up with the owner of the range. I've tried for years to shoot at a public range, but it never worked out until I met the gunshop owner.

That P210 looks sweet.

I've spent some time in Switzerland but didn't have the opportunity to seek out a gun store or a range.

The countryside is beautiful. Lots of small farms, most with a few dairy cows. Lots of folks had a milking machine hanging up on their front porch.

I heard rumors that the trout fishing is pretty phenomenal too......didn't get a chance to do that either
