Default Riverside CCW Standard Capacity Magazines

Has anyone reached out to the RSO CCW Unit to see if their position has change in regards to carrying 10 round magazines yet?

I haven't seen any posts yet....

TIA

They never said it was illegal. Why would it be now?

Don’t ask, don’t tell!

I use the mags that came with my guns. The standard capacity for the shield is 7 and 8. Why would I not be allowed to use those?

I wouldn't ask. Fresno county had too many people ask. We're stuck with 10 because of it.

Sure.

Look at your paperwork and the county website.

If it doesnt say anything about prohibiting lcms, STOP.

STATE LAW says they are legal to have purchased during freedom week (news flash, older guys like me already owned and carried them), and legal to use.

Why would you need to keep digging? All that is going to come from inquiries is some middle manager being forced to make a decision, and guess which decision is safer than “yes”?

Dont be that guy.

If they want to implement a new policy, where they have decided that you cant use them, it is on them to contact you and tell you about the change

Note, i dont live in Riverside and i havent read your policies. I leave that to you.

Its either going to say, specifically, that you cannot use them, or it wont say anything. If it doesnt say anything, that is not a prohibition.

Those that were (are?) so misguided as to ask- deserve only 10 (maybe 4!) round mags. Its not like the IA 1.) doesn't know Freedom Week occurred and 2.) How to reach their CCW holders.

The thinking eludes me...or there was none of that in play.

Assuming it isn't in the present rules. Keep quiet and go about your business. They will tell you if they want to change anything.

Great replies on this one. IA hasn't announced... don't give them a reason to do so.

If I was the sheriff and people asked me this question I would respond that permit holders can carry the 11th, 13th, and 15th rounds, but not the 12th or 14th.

Yes I’m being facetious. We had a soldier in the barracks in the 90’s who continually called the drill sergeants’ attention to any deficiency he saw and asked “is it supposed to be that way” instead of correcting it himself. After a few thousand unnecessary pushups over the months he ended up tied to a cot with chow hall garbage dumped on him.

I KNEW that guy! But, he was in the barracks in the 70’s.

Regrettably, we have forgotten (or never learned) that you can’t be free while constantly asking for permission.

Just to confirm, this was later found to not be correct. Official notice from Fresno Sheriff came out later essentially stating that legal mags are legal for CCW. Multiple threads on this, here's a couple:

Just keep in mind if you are involved in a shoot (good or bad) they'll have to take possession of your property as evidence. That includes mags. I dunno if I'd carry under those terms, yet CA has made carrying under CCW so complicated that it is liable to criminalize those trying to abide by the law. Just hope you have really good CCW insurance to retain legal services if something were to go down that pays for competent legal representation.

If i had to shoot someone, whether some overzealous DA wants to try to make a name for herself by trying to say legally owned and possessed magazines made by the company that made my pistol turn a good shoot into a bad shoot would be a welcome distraction.

Mags not used in the shooting are as likely to be confiscated as my underwear after a shooting.

You're assuming it only takes one mag to stop the threat. Never said anything about mags not associated with a shoot.

They might confiscate your underwear. But that's an different shoot altogether.

If i use two mags, ill be even happier that i carried 15 rounders.

Trust me, they wont want my underwear after a shooting....

They will need a hefty trash bag if they do.

I’m sure that LEO would confiscate the weapon and the mag in it, but unless another mag had been used, there doesn’t appear to be a reason for LEOs to confiscate an additional mag. (“Did you use that?” “No.” “OK”....Perhaps they’ll also get a warrant and search your home for additional mags which are equally irrelevant to the shooting?) If the additional mag was used, it supports the fact that you used more ammo because you were outgunned, and it will help define the terror you, as a competent, trained marksman had trying to defend yourself.

They can’t criminalize some one unless they press charges; they can’t press charges unless the individual executes a criminal act. Carrying LCMs and using them isn’t a criminal act.

Or a competent DA who would like to move up without trying a loser of a case.

I checked this evening. I found that I CAN drive the posted speed limit, but I need to slow down to do it.
