I also would like to thank you for clearing things up about the launcher, and what our options are.
I must say thank you again, it has been nothing but a pleasure working with you.
Also I thank you for turning me onto Chase Quick pay.

Edit... Lol, sold out, I must have got the last one...

More here, same seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yugo-SKS-Thr.../361370603344?

Note that CNC Warrior has 14x1 RH jamb nuts for $4 which can be used with any muzzle device. They also have 14mm crush washers. I am not affiliated with them, just want to be sure everyone is informed where to get the bits and pieces they might need.

They also have about 15 styles of devices to choose from for Yugo SKS. I will be ordering a jamb nut and crush washer from them when I order a brake, and then decide if I need them when the brake shows up. If you get a directional style device like the slant brake or the Type 74, you probably want at least the crush washer since there will not be a detent plunger to index the device like there is on AK.

I am still leaning toward the extended slant brake but I need to see the rifle in person first. The 'Russian original flash hider' might not be bad either if you like a birdcage look - it's starting to grow on me. If you want some weight up front like the launcher offered, the Type 74 brake is probably a good bet. It would be hard for DOJ to say the AK Slant or the Type 74 is a launcher, considering there are plenty of other rifles sold with them all over CA.

Default Another PSA

I ran accross this post in another thread that is worth a read http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...4&postcount=36 audiophil2 mentions the group buy towards the end of post...

We know as of 8-21-15 (post 117), crates have yet to ship from Classicfirearms to Alphacat Outdoor Supply...

Audiophil2 is a busy guy and I would suggest we not send pm's to audiophil2 asking for shipping updates. This process will take time. We dont want to bog audiophil2 with unnnecesary pm's or e-mails that may take his time away from his buisness...

I keep a eye on post 12 & 14 in this thread. These two post (12 & 14) have alot of info, audiophil2 updates these post regularly and I know when Classicfirearms ships out the crates he will let us know...

I am thankful audiophil2 has taken this on for us, without his services there would be no Yugo's...

Sorry I've been out of touch folks. I'll be back from the field on Monday and will be able to update the whole thread and respond to questions.

I initially wasn't going to get in on this because I have a bunch of SKS rifles. But when you become a sick junkie gun whore you can't say no to anything.

More importantly, the future thread where all these guys are posting pics of their minty unissued rifles and I didn't get one is an unbearable thought.

Can I have the launcher and other not legal in CA parts sent to my dad in Lake Havasu City, AZ?

Yes. I am putting all non-CA legal parts together and after the group buy is complete and all guns shipped out I will begin the process of shipping launchers to legal locations. I don't want to deal with them 1 at a time during the group buy process.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I am very grateful to audiophil2 for providing us with this service. I went ahead and made the payment via credit card today, and when he sent me the invoice I didn't feel like he is getting compensated very much for his labor. It is a lot of work this man is doing for the rest of us Californians. So I contacted him and donated some money to help him out like he is helping us out. If you feel the same way as I do (grateful), then please do the same.

I am very grateful. I do get donations on occasion all that money goes to buying more or better equipment specific to CA needs. I just spent $100 at Home Depot for another drill bit set, saw blades, sanding belts, etc.

Nothing is shipping yet. I plan on removing 1 launcher this week just to see how hard it is to do and then hopefully I will have at least 20 rifles ready to ship out this Monday. The guns are full of cosmoline so I am going to vacuum down my shop to minimize dust and then get the assembly line going. There is a bit of planning involved especially since my wife refuses to move the 160lb crates for me.

Default Bayonet

I have read every post in this thread. At least I think I did. I saw where one guy asked the same question I am about to ask, but did not see a reply.

Will the bayonet still be functional and able to lock in place both forward and back after the GL is removed?

Yes, it is independent of the GL. The 59/66 has a unique bayonet that is longer than a standard blade. It does not attach to the muzzle like a Russian or Chinese.

So for all the C&R and COE holders, what should we enter on form BOF 961 in the Make and Model fields so some State clerk doesn't throw a fit.

https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/zastava
Zastava SKS Carbines 59/66 are considered destructive devices in California and therefore may not be purchased, possessed, imported, or kept for sale without a permit.

Make: Zastava
Model: ???. Is is SKS? PAP? PAP M59? PAP M59/66A1 (night sights)
Origin: Slovenia (Yugoslavia)

I'd rather put down "PAP M59/66A1 (NO grenade launcher)". By removing the GL, does the modification change it's model designation? The model number may be etched on the receiver.

No, that does not change the model designation.

I'd like you to please print out this page off the AG's website and include that page in with their form BOF 961. On the BOF 961, state that the grenade launcher has been removed. Also include (important) a picture that shows both the serial number of the rifle and that the grenade launcher is missing. If you can't capture both in one picture, send two pics. That should keep them from freaking out.

If you are not a computer literate guy and can't figure out how to print that webpage, hit [Ctrl] + P on your keyboard.

I have some experience with this kind of problem, and believe that my suggested solution will satisfy them.

Don't hold out on the C&R forum pics when you get your rifle. I'll be posting mine.

I'd like you to please print out this page off the AG's website and include that page in with their form BOF 961. Also include (important) a picture that shows both the serial number of the rifle and that the grenade launcher is missing. If you can't capture both in one picture, send two pics. That should keep them from freaking out. I have some experience with this kind of problem, and believe that my suggested solution will satisfy them.
Why include pictures? It's not required. Yes, they will probably call you but then you can explain. Ask them what's the difference if you picked one up from an LGS and then with your 03/COE you walk out the same day. How is your LGS going to send DOJ pictures of "compliance"?

Personally I'd just mention "GL removed, muzzle brake installed" on the form somewhere and see where that gets you. Of course, IANAL.

I have previously received those phone calls, and after I explained that my rifle was legal and why, they asked for a picture, taken as I described. I chose to give them their picture rather than to fight an unnecessary battle of principal with a bureaucrat who has no ability to change policy or procedure.

If you want them to accept your form and leave you alone, do what I said. If you want to fight the battle and stand on principal, don't. I'm fine with whatever you choose, I was just attempting to answer questions asked by some of my friends here on the C&R thread.

P.S., Oni, you have the coolest avatar on Calguns.

OK so what do those of us who are getting these DROSd at our local FFL tell the clerk to enter it as? We don't get to mail in pictures or verbose explanations. I am worried this may cause a stink.

I may need to change my transfer FFL to one that is not super anal.
Your FFL has probably dealt with a problem like this before. I'd email the FFL ahead of time before the gun is shipped (include a link to that AG's webpage) and explain the situation to him.

Understandable, but why cave in like the type 56 debacle? Ask them for PC and talk to their manager. I'd harass them as much as they harass you. Be civil of course because I wouldn't want a late night no knock visit. Lulz

Had a friend who got called for his type 56. They gave hime the whole 9 about DOJ need pics. He said no as it's not required and show him PC. They said "manager" said so. Manager was busy and not available. After all the threatening by the DOJ worker, friend said that he will go to his local FFL and DROS there and walk out same day if they have such a problem. Then he asked them how can the FFL take pics if the owner already left. Three weeks later he got his confirmation letter.

To each their own of course. Do what you feel comfortable with.

When I logged these guns in I have a choice of either listing manufacturer or importer.

I logged them like this:

PW ARMS, WA M59/66 SERIAL# RIFLE 7.62X39 DATE LOGGED classic firearms 1-56-06387

That is how I did it and how I usually log milsurp guns since the manufacturer is not always easy to find.

If you plan on making a stand and refusing to provide pictures to the DOJ, then they just won'the register your firearm. The 30 days will pass, and you will be sitting on an illegal gun.

Possibly, however they would have a hard time explaining to the court their made up rules since it isn't listed anywhere in the law. As long as you do your part by sending in the registration, legally that is all that is required. The fact they failed to do their part is something they would have to reconcile before a judge if they tried to force the issue by taking you to court over it.

Keep a copy of the form and a photo copy of your check made out to the DOJ, and when you send the original paperwork to DOJ, send it "certified, return receipt requested" from your local post office. When you get the signed card back from the post office, put it with your copy of the form and check and don't lose that stuff. That is proof that you did what you were supposed to do and should be enough to protect you from any schenanigans.

You would definitely have the legal high ground, but that won't save you from time consuming and costly legal proceedings where the enjoyment of your 2A rights are made as difficult and costly as possible by activist judges.
