Default 930 SPX vs. 1301 Tactical?

I’m looking to buy a semi-auto shotgun for use for shotgun classes. Has anyone had experience with these two shotguns

Both no. 930 SPX yes, but not in classes. Many buy quite a few parts to assure reliability. Mine was ok out of the box, run them hard then see what issues may or may not come up.

Shot a friend's 930 SPX for a session at Oaktree. Mossberg is good. 1301 T is simply a bit better. in every department other than cost.
Bought the 1301 T, it's worth the extra money.

1301 > 930.

All day everyday.

Note that Mossberg has a newer semi-auto out...the 940 Pro but I don't know much about it. I believe it just came out so it may still be too soon to tell if it's good. The 930's seemed to be luck of the draw. Some were good, some had problems.

Between the two guns you listed I would go with the Beretta without question. If money isn't a factor then I'd look at the Benelli m4...or if you wanted to spend a little less than look at the Benelli m2. Note that the m4 is gas driven so it's a little softer shooting than the m2 which is an inertia driven shotgun. The m4 only has an 18.5" barrel. The m2 has other barrel options as it comes in a tactical configuration and a field configuration. And a lot of 3 Gun shooters run it so the aftermarket is pretty good.

I just DROSed a 7-shot 1301 Tactical (model: j131tp18c, 7-shot pistol grip.)

I already have a M4. Though I've been hearing great things about the 1301, I didn't think I would need one next to my M4. But but but...

Once I handled the 1301 at my LGS, I was sold immediately -- It was compact, smooth, and pretty -- like an Italian sports car (vs the M4 was like a tank.)

I can't wait to pick up my 1301 Tactical, and to try it at the range.

Don't gamble with your hard earned money. Get the Beretta 1301.

dont know about 1301 except its more expensive, I have the 930 jm pro which ran smooth without upgrades but still got the Or3gun part and it still runs smooth and a used spx 930 that would not cycle low loads, added the Or3gun parts ( about 100-150 depending on what you get) and now it runs smooth as butter cycling everything its fed

good enough for me, ymmv, good luck

I have a friend that has a 930. Hates it.

He then bought a 1301. Loves it.

I had my 930 JM pro spit out the extractor & spring on the first range trip
Mossberg reworked it and it's now reliable.

If starting over I would go beretta.

In my shotgun classes, the semi's that seem to have the most issues with reliability are the various 930s that show up. I don't see it with Beretta, Benelli or Remington. The newest 940 tactical is getting some good reports in but I haven't had a chance to test one myself and seen one in person yet. My 1301 OTOH has been completely solid. I've gotten it to run reliably with everything from slugs down to #9 birdshot.
