Question Regarding Magazine Holsters
I have a rifle class coming up and looking for some input as to running an Ar magazine holster. Is it worthwhile to run a double set up like http://www.furyholsters.com/0724172204.jpg
One concern is it just a ton of weight hanging off the side along with a dump bag. or is just a single mag and pistol holders enough? Or is it just mall ninja crap? Thanks for the input. |

Are you required to wear rifle plates in this class? If not.... why not??? Depending on the complexity / level of the class, number of strangers with loaded rifles around you, how they have been vetted and the safety protocols of the school... I might want to have plates on...
If you are not wearing plates in carrier, a full 30 rd mag in the gun and a 30 rnd mag in a single carrier on your belt should be more than sufficient for drills in between lessons. That double mag carrier does look like mall ninja crap too...something like this is all you need: http://www.zzzcustomholsters.com/product-p/m4p.htm

Yep I also run safariland stuff too. I also run a slim chest rig from blue force gear if the class involves more magazine swaps than 1 especially with our ca limited 10 rounds

Kind of depends
If your running 10 round magazines in a rifle class there is a pretty good chance that you'll be doing lots of magazine changes. What kind of shooting are you gonna do in your class? Bench, prone, standing, moving with others?
A good sling would be a first recommendation if you don't already have one. Most folks like a two point sling, I prefer a single point myself (PP.) I don't think there was anything ninja about the kydex M4 mag carriers you posted up first ( aside from being upside down.) I have used very similar carriers with no problem when I wanted to keep everything on my belt/person. After a little experimentation I personally decided I was more comfortable with a chest rig for rifle magazines. Something like a PIG chest rig:http://www.skdtac.com/PIG-UCR-Univer...-p/pig.667.htm When I only needed one or two spare mags I have also used the SafariLand Model 774 Rilfe pouch on my belt and found them to be great low profile magazine carriers with decent retention ( adjustable by a retention screw.) I have a couple that ride on my low profile plate carriers that have been bounced around and taken a pretty good beating without issue. |

Plate carrier?
If you need this to attend a class choose another. Don’t weigh yourself down with gear or be the guy with all the brand new stuff. Youre there to learn why not make it as effective as possible? Send an email to the outfit asking them what they recommend for a sling and mag carriers. I would never have issue nor ever be too busy not to help out a student attending one of my classes. Good for you attending training. Can never have too many safe and responsible gun owners. |

just a fyi, use threadlocker once you get your final position.
this way no worries about it loosing up through use. use blue so you can always break loose the screw later on.
