I'm with you guys, applied 7/1/15. Heard from them after calling last week. I had called and asked, they said my paperwork was stuck at DOJ for some reason, and that "it happens" sometimes.

The background guy got me pushed through quickly though, did a great job. Said I should hear from the sheriff in 30 days. I'm scheduled for my class this weekend.

Somewhat off topic, but I know many of us monitor this thread but not others:

Ok, we have our first bit of VetoGunmageddon organization going and we need those who can volunteer to get petitions to/from businesses and also assist businesses with monitoring the forms to let us know. There are county-specific groups, so please find the one for your county.
Here is the link to Stanislaus County:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/220828841593673/

For more information about this movement, please visit http://VetoGunmageddon.org

Took the CCW class yesterday (Valley Defense Consulting).
Because of the ever-increasing number of CCW holders and applicants, it was suggested that just after getting licence, go on the website and secure your renewal appointment 2 years beforehand.
So if you get your license 8/15/16, make your appointment for 7/1/18 now (or within the 90 day window).

Wife and I applied through MPD.
Set appt to submit application 4/16.
Submitted application 5/27/16.
Fingerprints 5/28/16.
Phone interview 5/30/16.
Took class 8/26/16.
Received phone call today 8/29/16 that permit is approved.
Heading down to MPD to turn in class document.
Wife's background not back yet (and she's ex-leo, ex-MPD).
They'll issue both permits together (guess I'm waiting on her).
So, 4-5 months through MPD.

Do you have to go to MPD to book an appointment? Do they have their application form or policy info online? I saw neither online when I looked a few weeks ago. CCW or Conceal Carry Permit is nowhere to be found anywhere on their website.

Did you use "self protection" are your Good Cause, or was it something specific to you and your spouse that the rest of us might not have?

Thanks for the update. Good that Modesto residents have a faster option now.

I waked in and got the applications.
Called the number and made the appointment to turn the apps in.
Fingerprints were done at MPD the next day.
"Self defense" was accepted as good cause.
It appears that MPD is following the same protocol as Stan County.
One difference is we had to qualify with each firearm on the permit.

A vote for Trident Firearms Academy. Their CCW class was great, Gene and Dan are a quality and professional group of guys!

Can I schedule an appt at MPD if I already have an appt threw the county sheriff?

4/16/16 to 9/21/16, permit in hand through MPD.
I could have had it several weeks ago, but waited on Wife's background.

Yes, but then cancel whichever one comes later. You may only have one CA CCW.

Heads up that Stan Co Sheriff, Adam Christianson, has apparently heard the complaints about long lead times and is overhauling the entire CCW application process.

Starting Oct 1st (fingers crossed) there will be a whole new website for CCW application and management where you will be able to do the following:
  1. Fill out applications
  1. Make Payments
  1. Schedule appointments
  1. Check the status of your application
  1. Request name changes
  1. Make address changes
  1. And yes, even request weapon changes.
That last one is a big deal as they have denied all weapons changes up till now citing the backlog in initial apps.

I can also confirm that things are changing behind the scenes as they are now quickly catching up on their backlog of applications. Requests for my classes have jumped 300% in the last month. Most of the people in my last class had their appt in January or early Feb. The latest batch is March and April.

Not sure. I would assume we'll be able to request it online then they will have to print out a new permit to be picked up after they process the request.

That would be nice. Hate to have to physically go down there twice, because that would be two days off of work for me.
Need online logins, sort of like a CCW blackboard type of system.

May I ask When you went on line and picked the 12/16/15 appointment time?

Nov 9th 2015, but initially the first open date wasn't until May 31st 2016 but I kept watching the website and changed it when I saw there was an opening slot in December.

You did good - I did volunteer work for the SO / I did a lot of the 'Live Scans' = learned a lot by talking to people like you who came in to get their live scan - Most had to wait about a year - those who 'dogged' the web site often found a earlier date - sometimes the office would call and offer an earlier app. It was a great learning experience doing Vol work there - Great staff - Very over worked. It will be interesting to see how this new computer system works - I am betting it will have a lot of 'bugs' to work out. I have my re-newel app on Dec 1 - Class and paperwork is done - just waiting for the appointment.
Very glad to see the Sheriff do something to allow us to change weapons - I will be surprised if he allows this for FREE - meaning, his office takes the time to pull your file and update the info - then print out a new CCW card with the new weapon - and then you change again in a few months??? I am betting there will be limits????
I wish our state would do as other states.... NO list of weapons... Like NV and UT
save everyone time and money

Congrats on your CCW

Would be nice to not have to list the weapons considering when we qualify we don't have to qualify with each one of them, only a gun. Doesn't even have to be on our list.
I'm curious to see how it will work with adding one also. I can see maybe charging a small fee if its outside the renewal time just to keep people from changing it every week. I know I would like to get another gun to add but not sure what I want for sure yet.

What I find interesting - we can qualify with ANY gun but have to list guns with ser numbers?? - makes MORE work for the SO and what difference does it really make since we do NOT have to qualify with any of the listed guns??

opps, forgot - we live in CA - nothing makes sense - just glad we can still get a CCW

BTW - anyone need any Pistol primers sm/lg - pm me - Turlock, cheaper than Bass Pro - who almost never has them in stock... 4K total

I highly doubt anything will go live until after Thanksgiving. If we get 2 weeks into December, I doubt we will see anything until mid-January.

"Please bring in your DD214 with you for the appointment. If you were dishonorably discharged, you will be denied"

also, have option to add scanned docs or bring in.

No, you are not renewing just to add a firearm. You are confusing two different events.

There is no fee to change/add weapons at your 2-year renewal anniversary. Just pay the renewal fee.

But now you can pay $10 when you are not at your renewal date to change weapons.

I also like the option of spare CCW licenses. Keep an extra in the safe at home.

opps, forgot - we live in CA - nothing makes sense - just glad we can still get a CCW

BTW - anyone need any Pistol primers sm/lg - pm me - Turlock, cheaper than Bass Pro - who almost never has them in stock... 4K total
The Serial Number must be on a California CCW, it is a PC requirement and has nothing to do with anything under the Sheriff's control.

Unlike many other counties (San Joaquin comes to mind), Stanislaus doesn't make us qualify for each on - because this is not listed in the PC as a requirement.

I have now gone thru the entire app - the second page asks if I have a CCW and has a blank box for me to type info - however, final page and payment page is for NEW app??? So, I guess, I will still need to call

BTW - Looks to be new questions - So READ very carefully.
