M1911 reference pictures
Hi guys, just registered with the site. I'm in the UK and as such we don't have access to guns like you chaps over there in the US, so I was wondering if it was possible for any of you to help me out with some reference images?
I work in the computer games industry and I have a project to build an M1911 colt - a beautiful gun and one of my personal favoirites. Would definitely be on my list of guns to own should I live in a country that actually permitted its citizens to "tool up". Ha ha ha. Anyway, I digress, I have lots of images of colts from the side, but what I lack is images of other areas of the gun - the business end, the rear (with hammer both up and down), top down views, views from below with magazine loaded and unloaded, views with the slide locked back, views of the magazine from different angles with bullets loaded, etc. As I have to build an accurate model I would dearly like to get as many images as I can of the weapon from as many angles as I can. I have some blueprints that are useful for ensuring the dimensions are accurate, but images would be much more valuable for getting a proper "feel" for the gun. So if anyone has any images or wouldn't mind taking a few pics of their pride and joy and posting them on the site or mailing them to me directly I would be extremely grateful indeed. Many thanks in advance. :-) |

Are you a citizen or or a subject? I thought the folks in the UK are subjects |

Thanks
Hey, thanks for the link - very useful to see how the gun is put together, brilliant. Fortunately I don't need to build anything quite so complex as mine doesn't have to be able to be stripped down - just has to work in a computer game. So the slide, hammer, safety, magazine and so forth need to work - but it is still very useful to see how the pieces come apart as it will make it easier to understand what I'm building, so many thaks.
As for citizen vs. subject - in the UK we are both citizens and subjects. We have a monarchy, which makes us subjects, but I think if you live in a State or a Commonwealth (we are the latter) you are also a citizen. And I'm pretty sure my passport says "British Citizen". :-) I think technically anyone living in a city is a citizen - and I prefer to think of myself as one rather than a subject, which is the same as being a "peasant" I guess. |

Plenty of pictures are posted in them http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=81 http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30 Here are some non-side-view pictures of my 1911 |

Thanks Milsurp, that's great. I am in awe of some of the great guns you chaps own. The closest we get over here is being a member of an airsoft site. It does still give us an opportunity to "play" with guns occasionally, but peppering each other with 6mm plastic ballbearings is hardly the same thing.
I do own a couple of de-activated weapons, including a very nice German 98K rifle complete with bayonet. I also have a few airsoft replicas including an M1911, but they are obviously quite different - especially in the breach/chamber and magazine. These are the areas that I'm now focusing on. Still can't get my head around "Here are some non-side-view pictures of my 1911". :-) "Here's my M1911" and plonks it on the table. He he he, brilliant. What a country. :-) |

Zak, you talk about us here in California like we talk about folks in other states here. They can have things that we can't, so we know how you feel. I was just at a big gun show in the next state over and it was so refreshing to be in a "free" state!

That's brilliant Milsurp, thank you very much - those images really help out! :-)
It's strange to hear you chaps bemoaning the gun laws in California. I'd have thought that with Arnie as your governor you'd have had laws making the ownership of miniguns compulsory. Ha ha ha. :-) So what is the deal in California then? What aren't you allowed to own? Automatic weapons? Do spare a thought for us in Blighty though - we grew up on the same films and from an early age shared the same passion for guns that you do over there, but we simply aren't allowed to own them. If we join some kind of gun club we can use them under supervision - but I'm pretty sure that the guns remain on the premises. So unless you're a farmer with his own shotgun, or a criminal who has managed to get one from "some guy down the pub", then you really can't own anything. Even our air rifles are restricted - anything firing over 600fps is considered a "firearm" and thus illegal. |

Arnie hasn't been a gun owner's best friend, I'm sorry to say. He's signed into law a number of anti-gun laws which we now have to fight in courts.
We can't have any full-auto or burst items, no short barrel shotguns or rifles. Getting a concealed carry permit in the large cities is nearly impossible. There are a number of handguns that we can't get shipped here because the state requires the manufactures to pay for expensive testing before they are considered "safe" enough to import. So one gun is safe when the same exact gun with a different finish on it is "unsafe", pleeease. We have a ton of paperwork to do on any transfer and have to wait 10 days before picking up any new gun we buy even if we have guns already. For new handguns bought through a store, we can only buy one per month. All of these bureaucratic bits of BS are under the flag of "public safety" when they pretty have have zero impact on crime at all and just serve as hassles to law abiding folk. All that said, it sounds like our problems are minor compared to you poor guys over there. Geez, even airguns are illegal. Lame!! |
