Default What is up with Surgeon Rifles?

I've been calling and e-mailing these folks for months without a peep. I've been trying to order their 1581 XL action to finally finish up what I need to build a rifle but have had ZERO success even making any contact with them. Do they even exist anymore?

And is there any sort of dimensional equivalent to the 1581 nowadays ? I've been sitting on this chassis for close to two years now, and it's designed for the 1581. But I can't build a rifle if Surgeon wont even bother responding. I'm getting a bit irritated and impatient just asking. I even see threads like mine popping up on Sniper's Hide with others have similar experiences to me.

So those who have had any contact with Surgeon...what the hell is going on there?

Shoot, I called them yesterday with my info and their sales guy never got back to me after lunch. I'll follow up again.

Has anyone here ever had success getting actions in a timely manner after SAC acquired them? I was told in late October that they would have actions by this month. Well....nothing. And they seem to be backordered everywhere.

my AICS chassis is already inletted for the 1581. If there is a dimensional (or at least workable) alternative to one, I'm all ears. I'm just not a big fan of sending a good chunk of change to a company who doesn't even seem like they are fulfilling any orders.

You can get a Tac 408 action or a Pacific Tool B66 Destroyer both in 1.450 diameter but they run about 10 inches long.
You didn't mention the cartridge but if it's Lapua size base look at Jim Borden's new action.
He is also due out with a cheytac action soon if that is what your after.

Yep I need an action with a 1.450” tenon and .590” bolt face for my 338 build. I wish there was some sort of blueprint I could go off of and compare dimensions but I can’t seem to find anything.

Download the Receiver Matrixes file. It's the most complete set of action dimensions I've seen. Thank you Oscar.

As far as I know, the inlet is unique. There isn't another action that will fit your chassis.

You don't need a 1.450" tenon action to build a Lapua, that action is 1.450" across. It's tenon is 1.125" x 16. Some will use 1.35" shanks with the 1.125" tenons rather than the more common 1.25".

I look at building that Surgeon XL / AI chassis setup from time to time, but the actions are never available when I'm in the mood to build the gun. The actions are in high demand and only seem to be available a couple months out of the year.

My dilemma is I bought an older legacy AI chassis when Surgeon was cutting them for these actions. Now that SAC scooped them up the farthest I can get to anyone over there is through an operator. It’s like everyone is on lunch every time of every other day I’m calling.

Guess I’m just going to have to keep bugging them. This is frustrating.
