Default CCW at Bass Pro, gun stores, etc ?

What's the procedure when you guys that are CCW go to a business that has a sign that says: All firearms must be unloaded and checked in

How do you handle it?

Sure, I'll check it in. But you're not gonna disarm me. Otherwise I take my business elsewhere.

Ignore the sign

Yep. Those signs have nothing to do with CCW.

Turners has similar signs, but they also have wording that says CCW holders are exempt from the sign.

Just walk in and go about your business. This has always worked for me.

I too would suspect that has mainly to do with guns there for transfers or whatever business requires them to be in the open.

Doubt any gun dealer would be anti-concealed carry

Granted they were smaller than a Turner's or Bass Pro, a few I've been to even let their employees open carry

Usually it for people bringing fire arms to store who don't have a CCW.

Think scope mounting or other related things.

Also, concealed is concealed.

Sounds to me like a rookie question. Ignore all signs as they have ZERO force of law. Yes, they are a private business and they can ask you to leave if you are found out, however, concealed is concealed. No one should ever know that you are carrying. Shame on you if they do. I go to the movies a lot and ignore the no firearms signs. Nothing bad ever happens at movie theaters correct?

I walk right in and do my business!!! That sign is for if you're brining in a weapon to have it looked at, worked on or some other thing. If you're CCWing then you're GTG!!!

Exactly Ignore the signs and carry on. Some ranges have a sign saying CCW check in at the desk. In those cases I'll notify them discretely out of courtesy. But If they expect me to disarm I'll spend my $$$ elsewhere. So far that has never happened, they just nod.

Those signs are to prevent armed robberies. Many robbery attempts are thwarted once the robbers see the signs. More businesses should post them to prevent crime

YSR, you just got your LTC.

Here's a tip...There is no reason to read the signs.

1. The sign will tell you something you don't care about.
2. The sign will tell you something you already know.
3. The sign will tell you something you don't want to know.

If, at some point, you are approached and asked if you read the sign, the best answer is, "No."

If you want to read something, go to the library.

This.

Turners has a sign that says CCW and LE are excepted. OC Indoor has a sign that ONLY LE is excepted so I lock it in the car before going in unless I'm going to shoot it.
If I'm going to shoot my EDC, I'll unload it at home and lock it up in the range bag with whatever else I'm taking.

Running a range, they have enough crap to deal with, without noticing someone carrying holstered and worried that they are going to screw up.

When I go to ranges I use the secret hand sign.

Everywhere else concealed is concealed.

My Issuing Agency says that I cannot carry in places where firearms are prohibited by law or sign. That verbage in your example doesn't sound like firearms are prohibited to me, it sounds like a request for what they'd like me to do with my firearm. My Issuing agency does not require me to comply with requests about what I do with my firearm in a place where firearms are allowed. So I would carry.

Also, at my local Bass Pro I've looked all around the entrance and never seen such a sign. If they have one, and it's tucked away somewhere that I can't find it when I look for it, then it's not my problem.

I've never NOT carried in Bass Pro Shop. And I've never checked anything in. But I do make a point of smiling and saying hello to the person posted at the entrance as I walk past them.

Never noticed a sign at BP. Then again, I've never looked for one either.

Firing Line in Huntington Beach has asked me to go back to the entrance, read the sign, unarm, then come back to the counter before they will check me in... not a fan of the place. I won't go back there unless I HAVE to, or with friends that HAVE to go there.

FL has, IIRC, has more than one suicide at all three locations.
They tend to stick to their policies.

But as with OC Indoor, it is a range as well as being a gun store. Not that it should matter, but it seems it is the range/stores that have those signs posted, likely because they don't want people doing holster work on the range.

Draw and point your loaded carry gun at a clerk while trying to show it off... seems to be what everyone with a CCW wants to do at a gun store.

The Cabelas in Texas had a "Does not include CHL holders, please keep weapons concealed" or along those lines at the bottom of the sign. The bass pro shop off the 15 which you are talking about does not. I ignored the sign and warmly greeted the greeter as I walked by.

Ignore the sign. Stay concealed.

BP is good to go. Gun check in is for guns being brought in for repair or to shoot at their range. Concealed... they don't care.

I called and asked and that is what I was told. I never slow down at most places.

That's how the sign at Turners is as well.

^^^^This. Although I believe it is Cabelas that does not allow weapons to be carried, by anyone. I have seen cops escort people out who were caught carrying. They protested vehemently, but were ejected nonetheless.

Just before I got my CCW, I asked the "weapon checker" at 2 different Cabalas.
He said me carrying, licensed, was not an issue.

Every time I stop in at Cabela's, I see at least 1 person openly carrying. It's NV and legal. I don't usually notice it much in gun stores, Cabela's, Sportsman's, or Scheel's, but seem to notice more when I see people open carrying in Walmart, Raley's, Rite Aid, or in AM/PM, etc.

I have LOC at the Cabela's in Reno as well as the Cabela's in Glendale Arizona. No one cared or even noticed. At a Bass Pro in Miami there is a sign that asks to show your ccw to the clerk. I concealed the entire time and was let in without any issues.

No I wasn't printing, as a courtesy when checking in, I handed them my ccw along with my id. I do the same at OnTarget & FT3, and they see it, say thank you & hand it back to me. Ft3 marks it down and send an ro to the line when I'm about ready. They watch me draw & put my gun on the table safely.

As for cabelas & bass pro, thise signs are for people selling guns, they need to be cleared, same as oc armory or rg or any other shops.
