Wifey purchased more canned goods earlier.

Yesterday charged my car battery jump start unit. But then again I charge that unit every two weeks.

Had about a 1-2 hour window for a hike this weekend.

So I took my GHB (about 15 lbs) and went on a 1.5 mile hike.

The plan is to set aside some time every weekend and take the GHB for a short day hike. Ideally more than 1.5 miles going forward.

Chainsaw, my old one seized. I think these will be a very valuable tool for many reasons, but if it gets really bad I plan on taking everything standing down and make a major obstacle course for any bad guys to have to negotiate. Confusion can be scary, they will then have to plan for snipers and "Might" look for an easier area to scout.

Today I upgraded my HAM radio license from Technician to General (passed the test with 34/35 questions correct).

And got some new toys out of 10 day jail!

I picked up a slingshot.

I figured in a long-term SHTF situation, if you ran out of ammo,
or didn't want to make a ton of noise, it would be another way
to hunt small game. Much less bulky, compared to a bow and arrow...
You could use rocks for ammo.

I went for a run, and I trolled 1911 lovers on CALGUNS.NET. Physical fitness is important, and letting people know how mindless using a 1911 is other than in a competitive setting. Great success.

While out running errands today, I though I'd take a chance and stop by my local Big 5 to look for ammo (any ammo ). I scored three boxes (the limit) of Remmington .22 short (my favorite bunny hunting round)

I also scored a free, new to me, 5 gallon propane tank from a co-worker.

Since first aid and medical stuff is my weakest prep, I have shifted my focus to it.

Last night I took all of my medical supplies that are not already in the various first aid kits (such as BoBs and GHBs) and started stocking up my new Blackhawk Stomp II that I scored NWOT on ebay for $85.

I also found a US seller on ebay that sells medical shears, and picked up a lot of 12 new for only $15 shipped for all the first aid kits for me and my partner.

Planning on taking some first aid classes from the Red Cross in early June plus starting to get a few medical supplies at the store every week or two until my kit is better stocked.

Yea, and its asshats like you that is what has dropped this forum down from being a top notch information source and a petitioner of gun rights in the state of California, to what it is today. Marine or not, this is the reason quality of members has dropped around here. From one Marine to another, great job hero.

Got home a bit ago with a fresh Last Will, Advance Health Care Directive, Durable Power of Atty and Disposition of Remains.. superceeding a 1994 Will.

FYI; CA now allows a "Personal Property Memorandum", a slick tool for your Executors.

Started to fill my scepter fuel cans with diesel & gas for my emergency storage. I took 2 5 gal cans with me last night when I filled the truck and filled the cans. Put them on the fuel pallet this morning in my offsite location.

Grats! CERT is awesome!

Hopefully now more opportunities open up in your area for additional training.

This weekend, I purchased 2 cheapo kerosene lanterns.
Also added the medical shears that I purchased to every one of the medical kits in my household.

ETA: I also joined the local HAM radio club yesterday and signed up to work during the 'HAM Field Day' event at the end of June to learn more about HF radios and broadcasting.

I'm jealous. I just finished my CERT training and I was very disappointed. The only thing I really got out of it was the networking. I'll probably go through the Citizen's Academy since multiple people in the CERT class said it was much more useful.

The networking is absolutely the most I got out of it (I did a review on here not long ago). However in my class we did a lot of practical so learning how to crib and other things was pretty awesome.

Now on the other hand, the CERT training does open up further training that you can do. I've only started doing some of that stuff but looking forward to doing more.

The only practical stuff we did was: Light road flares; put out the lamest controlled fire ever; do a practice S&R walkthrough on a building with simulated light damage (including triage).

ETA: I'm pretty sure it was your write up that convinced me to do the CERT training, btw.

Sanitized 6 55gal water barrels, located them in my side yard and filled them. I feel better having 330 gallons of water ready. Along with 2 pumps.

The networking part is great but I thought my experience with CERT training was great.

Yeah the fire suppression part IMO was a bit lame, we had a simulated fire with propane and if the water hit the right place where the sensors were it would cut off the propane in essence extinguishing the fire. I would have preferred a live fire instead but it is what it is.

Basic triage, light search and rescue and first aid was taught also. One bonus was we were all CPR and AED certified.

We were suppose to use another fire departments outdoor training facility for our test but at the last moment something happened and wasn't available for us so they had to scramble around and find an alternate location for our test.

I wish they would have taught us cribbing for search and rescue. I think that would have been helpful.

Installed new springs in my M1 Carbine. I was getting light strikes.
Yeah, not my SHTF rifle, but a good one to have in operational order.

Hmmm picked up a set of AU atacs to go with my two FG sets. Applied for my Arizona CCW and looked into NV and FL.

I contacted the local mormon cannery to find their hours (probably the cheapest prices anywhere for long term food storage).

Teach:

Oldest daughter is in the RN program at Cal State San Bernardino. Have to give the Profs credit, one of the assignments this quarter is to build and present their "bug out bags".

Been through the attic digging through my old Y2K supplies and stored bug out bags . Pretty good I must admit, down to suture kits, inflatable leg and arm splints, etc.

So my preparation today is a good teaching experience scheduled for this afternoon when she gets home. Should have had this done before........ But she is the Prom Queen type (really was), so at least this is making her take this step.

I will give her print outs of K-Bar knife, .45 acp and AR to present, although my recommendation to her will be to keep those in her back pocket just in case the Profs ask anyone about that, which I doubt they will.......would probably qualify as automatic failure
