🥇 Was First to Get New License Format! 💳
So, I'm at the CCW office (OCSD) to pick up my license.
There were two of us in the first appointment timeslot. While paying our fees and signing paperwork, the woman had our two licenses (old format). A sergeant walked in and said that starting with the next appointment group, they would be getting their photo taken for the new license format. He then looked at us and said, "Unless you two want to be the first". I thought, "Hell yeah!", but said, "Sure, why not?" Since the other person in my group was a woman, I said, "Ladies first" and let her be the very first. I was second. I was a good guinea pig because my address was long and it was cut-off on the right edge of the card. They tweaked the software and data and finally got it right. Once my new card was printed, I was shown both my "old" card and the new card, side-by-side. To be honest, the old card seemed to have more color and "popped" a bit more, but hey...out with the old and in with the new. I had a good time chatting it up with the sergeant, he had a great sense of humor! Thanks @Sergeant D.! EDIT: To see what the new design looks like, it's in message #8 below. To see my whole timeline of when I first requested an appointment, all the way up to when I picked up my license, that's in message #5 below. Your new licensee #2, Mag+1

Congrats
When did you get your email stating they received your live scan/training and you were "being put into the final step"? How long after that did you receive a date for pick up? Still waiting since 5/11/17 (yes I'm impatient) |

She said as early as in the next day or two. There is certainly reserved space on the back of the new license format (where the firearms are listed).

Day 0: Submitted request for interview Day 0: (an hour later) Received interview date (6 months out) Day 191: Went to interview Day 196: Since my CCW firearm was not registered I had to submit a DOJ Intra-Familiar Transfer form Day 213: LiveScan fingerprinting Day 213: Submitted all supporting documentation that was requested from initial interview Day 233: Received conditional approval Day 237: Completed the required training and qualification Day 238: Submitted training certificate and qualification form Day 252: Still no word on the Intra-Familiar transfer. OCSD (and my CCW) is stuck until it is cleared Day 262: Purchased what is to be my EDC (not the original one with which I qual'ed). DROS started Day 272: Pickup up new firearm and CCW-qualified with it Day 273: Submitted new qualified paperwork for new firearm and asked that this new one be on the CCW and not the original firearm (since it is still being cleared) Day 275: Received final appointment to pick up CCW license (with only second firearm on it) Day 280: Picked up CCW license Total time:
So, to answer your question, it took 20 days from when I submitted fingerprints to LiveScan to when I got the conditional approval. If you notice, my timeline is a bit off the normal course (with the unregistered firearm). However, once I bought a new firearm, qual'ed with it, and submitted the paperwork to the CCW folks, it was only 7 days between then and when I picked up my license.

I'm not sure. I've heard that it is directly integrated with the latest computer system in Sac. If so, then it looks like each county can put their watermark on it, like the picture shows.

Some Counties no longer give the rice paper to CCW holders. San Bernardino County has them on file and has not handed them out for years. |

Just for grins can you post a pic of the old one? For the sake of comparison and all...

That looks MUCH nicer than the rice paper. I had to laminate mine and it's still big and awkward in my wallet. I asked a while ago when I got my CCW if they were planning on doing this and they had no idea. I hope this is state wide for sure. I'm assuming it looks more like a CDL?

Much of this will change in the near future with the passage of AB 2510 and the modification of PC 26175.

Wife and I renewed our permits this year... me about 2 months ago and her just recently. We both got the old format, laminated. (Sacramento County)
The new format OP received reminds me of our Utah permits... exactly what you would expect modern government issued permits to look like.

Okay, now that the above silly nonsense is out of my system, although I don't have my license in the old design (this was my first CCW), I did see it. OCSD was about to give me my license (old design) when Sgt D. walked in and asked if we wanted to be the first on the new system (new design). I did just that and did see both designs side-by-side, but only received the new design. Frankly, the old design seemed to have a bit more color and looked more lively than the new one. So maybe someone can post pics (front/back) of the old design.

Since AB 2510 passed, any format issued by an IA is no legal anywhere in the state. My guess is that some Sheriffs don't want to risk blowback if something happens and someone tries to bring a lawsuit against them or some such. Yes, they are exempted by law from being sued or held accountable if a CCW holder run amuck, but since the paper has traditionally been the only "approved" format I can see many simply wanting to wait until something else approved comes out of the DoJ. Yeah, I really was looking for the old OC card but the OP doesn't have one. Maybe someone else can post the old OC card for a comparison...

OCSD still does both a paper version for you to take home, as well as the newly designed ID.
No, not at all. On the CCW license, there is no raised relief (no embossing) and no hologram like on the driver's licenses.
