I’ve gotten ammo shipped directly to me from some online retailers. Is it the same for hi capacity magazines as well? Or do I still need to go through a FFL?

Plenty of places will send you LCMs with credentials.

Brownells, GMW, Botac, AU to mention a few.

OP, you are not providing enough information to begin answer your question. It lacks sufficient data/details. But.....
If you are purchasing ammo out of state using an online vendor who ships direct to you because you are a FFL/03 with a COE, then no. That does not allow you to purchase SCMs. You missed out on freedom week or the million mag march.

If you are LEO, I would not know.

even as a LE0 I'm sure you cant receive LCM through mail. it will still have to go through a FFL with a permit im sure.

It's not a firearm, and if the OP is exempt there's no legal reason it can't be shipped to him directly.
I'm assuming OP is a cop based on his username.


But to be clear, no, the 03/COE does not provide an exemption for LCMs.

I called Brownells and it seems like hi caps must be shipped to FFLs unlike ammo for LEOs which can be shipped directly to our home

Lots of online retailers. I've used gunmagwarehouse before. They just want a copy of your LEO creds. Ships right to your door.

It has been awhile since I looked into it. That said, its the same process as ammo. They need a copy of your credentials on file. They will ship them to your house. Most of the time you will need to be there to receive and sign for delivery.
That’s only the ones willing to participate. Most wont.

my info is based on LEO coming to purchase and told me he couldn't get them shipped and that they could only be shipped to a FFL with permit so I order him some and he came to pick up that week

Brownells, Lanbos Armory and DSG Arms will ship to LEO in CA. Just have to email or fax copy of credentials. Shipped right to you door, no signature required. Unless you request for it.

No California law reason for that; your LEO customer seems to have been misinformed.

Just make sure your dept. doesn’t have a policy about making a copy of your ID card, some do.

Look at PC 32405 for the LE exemption on magazines.
