Default My New K98 RC

Picked it up last weekend. Shoots great and looks awesome. Russian Capture. Have bayonet for it as well. Just missing the cleaning rod but not surprise there. Dated 1937. Sorry didn't take the greatest pictures and didn't get any good shots of the German symbols, but Here are the pictures.

I might have to get a bayonet for mine.

Nice score, this is one of only 99,265 produced under the S/27 manufacturer code.

Awesome. Can you tell where it was made? Where would I go to find out more information?

Erfurter Maschinenfabrik (ERMA)

If your getting into Mausers or just want to learn more, I recommend the following:

Yeah it's just one book, that's the title.

ERMA is the factory where it was made.

I'm sure there are web sites out there, but this book is pretty detailed.

Here found you one ;-)

Thanks I made it myself. I got an old keg, and stained a pieice of wood. Put blocks of wood underneath so it won't slide off.

I'm kind of an okie and it shows. You can also see my Rebel flag, well the bottom of it. Thats what my pillow cases are and my bedsheets and blankets. but there in the wash, thats why you don't see them.

Hey the Rebel flag is fine by me too, if I could fly it high here in San Francisco I would, but the liberal hippie jack off will probably burn down my house and truck.

lmaorofl. my friend flew a huge one out of the back of his truck while he drove around town. He mounted the pole to the bed. It was great.

Cupped stock? Sorry I'm not a major K98 person. My dad really wanted it haha.

Someone in a previous post said there were only 99,000 or so made with the s/27,

The serieal number on mine is 261, does that mean its the 261's made? Thats what I'm guessing but just double checking.

Thanks for all the love guys.

It's the metal at the end of the stock, some had flat butts and this is a cupped because of the way the metal is formed on the end of the butt stock.

The serial numbers were in groups, 1-9, 10-99, 100-999, 1000-9999 with letter suffixes for each group of numbers.

Do all the other serial numbers match between the reciever, barrel, bolt, etc?

Or is it a force match on everything else?

I'm purchasing an all matching, non-capture, K98, 27 code, 1938 used by the Luftwaffe with a double digit serial #, can't wait to get that one film at 11 when it arrives ;-)

The only numbers I see is a 261 and its all over the rifle. Only thing that has the elctric pencilling (or w/e its called) is the bolt. and everything else matches, except the forward metal peice that holds the wood together, I'm drawing a blank and can't think of the correct names.

I'd say you got a really nice find there, while not a vet bring back, or 100% original in terms of finish because the RC's usually got refurbished, it will still be worth something later on down the road, and I'd definetly hang onto it.

Now, the bigger question, how does it shoot?

Cupped stocks are great because the K98 is the only rifle with those metal cups on the stocks. They help prevent a split stock. It's just another German "over engineering" feature on the rifle; much like the capture screws or front sight protector.

Shoots perfectly, loved shooting it, I like shooting it over my Turkish Mauser, both 8mm Mauser. Was hitting steel targets at about 200 yards easily. Everything functions perfectly and I got some stripper clips with it and those work perfectly as well. It has a great bore too.

Also I'm missing the cleaning rod, anybody no where to get an original one at?

Heh, if I flew my Rising Meatball, the local Ks would shoot me up into ground chuck and then burn it all up. By the time LAPD shows up, they'll just say they were having a Korean BBQ.

I bought it off of another Fellow calgunner, $450 FTF. Including bayonet and the guy gave me a German Belt buckle to cover my gas expense.
