It all depends on distance.

This one for mid range or high volume scenarios

Hey, Pete, here's what my cheek rests against on my Maple Mauser as I'm taking aim at a zombie:

These are old pics of my monster .45-70 zombie killah built on a Siamese Mauser that had a rusted barrel. I replaced it with a Douglas air barrel. I should take new pics of it sometime.

Thanks for the request about my stock work. It keeps an old man out of trouble...

The finish on the Maple Mauser is pine tar followed by BLO. The finish on the .45-70 is three coats of pure tung oil. It might need two more...

.45-70...Nice! You should take some new photos. I wish I had the patience for such nice work.

smog7 asked about that heavy barrel on the Mosin Nagant.

http://www.slickguns.com/product/mos...et-barrel-9999

This is not the exact place I got mine. But it's the same barrel.

I've read in other places that sometimes the extractor cut does not line up. I had three receivers and tried the barrel on all three. The extractor cut would only line up on one of them.

What you're viewing above is a mock up of what the gun will be. It has yet to be torqued onto the receiver, has yet to then get scope holes drilled and tapped. I'm going to have the holes drilled into the thickest part of the barrel, forward of the breech. Then I can decide whether to leave it as a scout mount or to add a longer rail and a bent handle for a more traditional approach to the scope.

Since it's too heavy to be anything other than a target rifle, I may leave it scout. Either way, it's a very inexpensive project. I have high hopes for accuracy but am willing to lose all $100 so far I have invested in an effort to see if it works out. If it works out, I'll put it in a better stock. This is my build stock that I use to test out my builds. It has held several projects so far and is a bit shredded. You can see I've also tested several finishes on it, removed them, and tested more. All tinkerers need "build" stocks...
