Default Can you anodize 6061 and 7075 in the same batch?

Hey all,

I'm looking to do my first 80% in the near future and was researching my options. I'm really liking the broken arms paperweights, which are made out of 6061. I'm also going to be machining my own FF handguard out of 6061 as well.

Now the issue lies with the upper, I can get a raw forged 7075 upper, but can that be ano'd with the same batch as the 6061 parts? I would want the colors to match as best as possible, especially since I'm going to be going with a flashy color like blue or red for all these parts. However, I know that different materials sometimes need different solutions/prep work.

Thanks for any input you can give!

Jon

Just got my answer on another thread. It looks like 7075 does require different voltage and other settings and what not.

Might just stick to a classic black upper then...

You can always Cerakote as it will coat everything (barrel, stock, grips, internal parts etc.) and have a uniform color shade on different materials.

My experience with anodizing and anodizers is that 7075 will not take a type II anodize very well so they don't bother. Hard anodize only and that means black only as well.
