New Training Location for Stanislaus and Merced Counties!

The Madison Society was recently approved to hold CCW training classes at the Turlock Sportsman's Club. Which, oddly enough, is not really all that close to Turlock. But it is closer than our other location in Oakdale, where we have been holding our CCW classes for several years now.

The TSC is actually in the West Valley in Stanislaus County (13949 S Carpenter Rd, Crows Landing, CA 95313). Just off of Crows Landing, about half way between Patterson and Newman. Also as we have been approved for Merced County so it is a good choice if you live in Gustine.

Our initial class is the first weekend of December, the 5th and 6th.

For more information you can check out the Madison Society website, http://www.madison-society.org/classes.shtml

If you don't know who/what TMS is, we are a non profit 2A rights group. We focus mostly on CA issues but we can and do get involved in national cases. The majority of the funds we use for these cases come from the fees for CCW classes. Classes are $200 and that includes a one year membership in the Madison Society.

Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions about classes or about the CCW application process.

Up for renewal for CCW through Merced PD.

Smooth transaction

$25 app fee
$52 to CaDOJ
$50 for renewal CCW class

That's it.

Just found out that if you live in the city you must go to Merced PD to get a print out. If there is nothing on record you must get a letter stating they have nothing on record.

My appointment is not till May. My guess is: You scheduled your appointment before this "extra step" was added and before I made my appointment. So, that may be why you did not need one.

I went to the PD to get the "print out" and the girl said they cannot give it to me; they will send to Josephine. She said her boss does not allow the print out to be given to the requestor. I completed a short form with name, address, and DL number so they can release the info for the purpose of applying for CCW permit.

Enuff said.........

So this just applies to Merced city residents?

Not sure if it only applies to city residents, kind of doubt it. Probably is that if you live in the city you go to Merced P.D. versus if you don't live in city you go to some other bureaucratic entity; maybe the Sheriff? The good thing is that the P.D. did not charge $$$. I can see that coming in the future.

Anyone know if Merced has increased the number of firearms you can list on your permit? When I was approved it was 3 but they said they intended to raise that number.

Sorry for the delay.

For the renewal they did have me fill out the application, but I don't think that they conducted another background investigation.

Do I stand a chance for getting mine? I just moved to Merced county. My record is not 100% clean I have had traffic violations and I was convicted of a misdemeanor vandalism 9 years ago. Would they deny me over something minor that happened that long ago.

Has Sheriff Warnke kept his promise: is he accepting "self-defense" as a sufficient Good Cause statement for issuing a CCW?

Mine was the first CCW he signed - My good cause statement was basically self defense.

Anyone recently, let's say in the past 4 months? (after 2016 May 01)

Why do I ask? Because I thought Merced put on their CCW page under FAQs a statement that SD = GC after Warnke took office. Last night I looked at their page and linked .pdfs and while they do mention GC, they do NOT mention any details about it much less say SD = GC. http://www.co.merced.ca.us/index.aspx?NID=1918

I don't remember seeing anything like that on their official site. I do remember reading that he stated SD=GC on an interview from his campaign.

Anyone with a contact in Sheriff Warnke's CCW dept should contact them and suggest they look into putting their CCW process online. It saves BOTH the department and applicants (new and renewal) time, money and effort.

Pass this article along to them: http://www.sacbee.com/news/local/cri...121987214.html

I'm sure there are others, but so far I know San Bernardino, Sac, Fresno, Stanislaus, Monterey, Placer, Solano and Yolo have all put their CCW process online and San Benito expects to put their application process online sometime this month.

Renewals are done entirely online (no appointment necessary) saving office staff valuable time.

Turned in paperwork 6-13-17, notified 6-19-17. Less than one month from appointment to permit. Forgot to ask if five weapons were allowed.

Not sure if this has been posted before anyplace, but, from July 2016 ....

Quote:
Merced County grand jury report

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office and local police departments are properly following concealed carry laws and procedures, which govern who can carry a concealed gun, the report says. The Sheriff’s Office processes most of those requests, the jury found.

Some agencies require home visits and interview neighbors to determine if an applicant has shown anger management problems or displays hate paraphernalia, the jury found. The Sheriff’s Office does not allow .22-caliber handguns to be concealed, according to the report, because the bullets are unstable.
From: https://cgja.blogspot.com/2016/08/me...eports-on.html
http://www.mercedsunstar.com/news/lo...e91397582.html

I don't like the part about "hate paraphernalia": Does that mean some good ol' boy into country music with a Stars & Bars flag decal on the back of his pickup won't get a CCW? Some people might consider the NRA a "hate organization" and their decals "hate paraphernalia."

Not sure what they mean when they say .22 caliber bullets are "unstable." AFAIK, they're very stable, that's why one of the reasons they're used for target shooting. I do know that rimfires, in general, are less reliable in their ignition than centerfires, however.

Got my renewal this AM. Took about 10 mins.
5 handguns. And you can now carry more than one at a time, if you are so inclined.
52 dollars to DOJ, and 25 to SO.
Of course I had to take a full class and demonstrate proficiency with all 5 back in Dec.

Was a restriction of the Sherriff's dept/IA previously?

Nismo; She typed a new one up.
baggss; yes.
Ojallday; Info is straight from the mouth of Sheriff's representative who actually issues the permit. Also from CCW Instructor's mouth. This is not hearsay on my part. I asked this AM and she answered. In person.

Process Get the application packet and follow the direcrions
Class $50.00
Live Fire $15.00 per gun + ammo?
County $50.00
DOJ $113.00

make sure you are truthful on the application, the issuing agency will make that determination...

Thinking about moving to Merced County, if I already have my Stanislaus ccw do I still have to start the process from scratch in Merced?
