Is it legal there? I see this thread which makes it seem questionable.

Nice!! I love the open desert and I've been wanting to go shoot out in that area.

I will be out in the Apple Valley area off of Stoddard Wells Rd in a couple of weeks. I'll have to check that location out!!

Well everytime I go there are many shooters. East of the 15 looks like it's for offroaders. West of the Interstate just pick a spot. I usually go west about 1-2 miles. Just remember to pick up your mess

The Zombie shoot is an annual must. If at all possible show up there. It's a great location, and a good place to keep shooting all year round. I've wanted to join in for a while.

After re-checking the map, I see the legal area on the west.

Going to Vegas in a week and my wife promised me we could stop for a few minutes at the crack of dawn to go through a couple magazines. I've been wanting to stop there and finally it's going to happen. With my luck at the tables, it should be the highlight of the trip!

For Hodge road shooters go back at least a mile before shooting. There used to be posted signs saying its a federal offense to shoot within a mile if an interstate.

Hey brother. Welcome to the world of shooting freely!

You can shoot in most BLM land. Google CA BLM land and you're set!

+1 for hodge rd, it's great if your passing through, but if you're going to spend any length of time in the high desert area there are plenty of hidden gems of places to shoot.

It got so badly trashed that the property owner asked the sheriff to start running people off. No more shooting there

^^ some idiots a couple years ago were "getting creative" and started a fire. There are plenty of spots around that area to shoot though. Invite a local! (wink)

I went to Hodge Rd for the first time last saturday since the kids were at grandma's and wife was in vegas. Did my first 400 yard shot on steel out there. FUN! Only thing I didnt like were broken glass and trash left on some berms by idiots. If you go there, please don't be an ahole and shoot your glass and trash. I want to be able to bring my 6 year old there and not worry about her having glass pieces go through her feet.

I like going off stoddard wells rd.. West side and I go a few miles in.. Past 3-4 hills.. Gotta have a truck it's a bit rough but I've never seen anybody out there.. No shells, no trash. So let's keep it that way. I like to lay out a 20ft tarp.. And shoot on that.. Makes cleanup a breeze. And if you look hard you can reach out to 400 or so yards too.. Safely.

Default Hodge Road,etc.

I am very happy a lot of these posts ask that we clean up after ourselves. I work in the desert, and there is too much trash already. So thanks to all of you!

I have been out to Hodge Road recently. It is definitely open on the West, and go out a mile or two, as others here have said. You can get a "Shooting Map" from San Bernardino County Special Services District. Just GOOGLE it. There is an office on 5th street, east of the 215.in San Bernardino. I have also heard Turners might have this same map.Happy shooting.

my sheriff buddy told me it is legal to shoot in kern county. theres a nice area west of rosamond. take the 14 fwy north if coming from LA. exit Backus rd. it's the exxit after rosamond blvd. go west on backus rd until the road ends and turn into dirt. go over the bridge and drive further west on the dirt road for about a mile or 2 until the dirt road curves right and there is a nice little ravine like area to shoot towards the mountain.

Shot on the 24th of last month.
Semi crowded
But seemed to be a decent group.

Lots of trash closer to the 15.

Last time I posted a good spot on calguns, 6 months later the place was overrun with trash. Shot out TVs computers and even a couch. Won't make that mistake again. Then again, that was many many years ago, about the time this thread was started.
