I wanted to quote this question because I was wondering the same thing. I know that NV does not yet honor the AZ permit, but has anyone had experience providing NV LEO with a non-resident permit? I think he meant that if a non AZ resident is carrying without a permit in a business that serves alcohol, the non resident can contest the citation on grounds of insani...i mean... being a non resident. |

I got my packet today. I took the course for Utah/Florida with both Utah and Florida permits. Should I send the training certificate? Or the a copy of my card(s)? Or possibly both? What are you guys sending in/using?

I received my AZ CCW in 5 working days upon DPS receiving my application. I sent them a copy of my training certificates and other related documents even though they only required me to send copies of my other CCWs, payment and 2 fingerprint cards.

Not quite. Maybe what I really mean is those seeking this or any other permit might at some point want to study the laws involved in addition to getting all excited about receiving it.

As for the non-resident in a bar defense. It is indeed an affirmative defense for a non-resident to claim ignorance for a first offense. That said, the judge/jury doesn't have to accept it. I would suggest that anyone, resident or non, who stands in front of an AZ judge and claims he is ignorant of AZ gun laws while holding an AZ CCW in his hand is simply going to piss that judge off.

It's great to see that many are now applying for the AZ CCW. I have mine for almost a year now and before the aniticipated law that Nevada will honor the AZ permit - Great News!
I really don't need the AZ CCW but I applied for one to simply show my support to their wonderful state :-) Last edited by Raymond; 05-21-2011 at 9:39 PM.. |

LOL! Nice to hear from you classmate. We need to have a reunion one of this days. Congrats in advance on your AZ CCW. Good decision for applying. AZ process is painless and they are very friendly aka supportive. I also read your post about your wish from Santa on the CA CCW. I'm with you brother and just be patient. I just received mine few months ago after some persistence and a lot of patience :-)

Just requested an application packet.
This will cover me for weekend getaways to the Tahoe area AND my trip to New Orleans this summer (Louisiana recognizes AZ permits)! Woohoo! One question though: Is my CA CCW alone enough to satisfy the AZ training requirement? Or do I absolutely need to send proof of training course completion? |

I am planning on sending:
1) Copy of my CA CCW permit 2) Copy of my NRA Basic Pistol/Revolver Safety Course certificate 3) Copy of my 16-hour CCW training course certificate Should that suffice? I'm on a tight schedule to get the permit before I leave for vacation in July, so I don't want to screw up the paperwork. |

I noticed that the application has a place for an instructor's signature, course info, etc.
What are you guys doing? Just leaving that section blank?

I'm thinking of sending it in and just put in a copy of my certificate from "Valley Defense" which states "Concealed carry weapon" as the course title. I'll probably mention that it was an 8 hour course. Think it will fly?
I can understand their stance on CA CCW courses all beiong different because I believe the requirement states no less than 4 hours and no more than 8 hours...

I sent an email request asking for a packet to be mailed to my CA address and if they would recognize my UT non-res permit to satisfy the training requirement.
I received a response in 18 minutes (wow): We can use either the Florida or Utah CCW permit as alternate documentation. Make a copy of the front and back of either permit and include it with the application packet forms. We will get an application packet out to you in the mail. Thank you. AZ DPS CCW Unit Phoenix AZ 602-256-6280 Update - requested application 5/24, received app 5/27, mailed 5/31.... standing by.....
